With today being exit interview day, I suspect we'll find out a few players who will or won't be going to the Worlds. This is a good spot to try and track them.

Confirmed yes so far: Plekanec, Pacioretty, Eller, Subban, Emelin
Confirmed no so far: Cole, Price, Weber (inj), Kaberle, Budaj, Diaz (inj)

Markov hasn't been invited yet to play for Russia. Part of me wants him to play for conditioning sake while the other part is actually happy he can't injure himself on the ice before training camp...I hope.

You would think Subban would jump at the opportunity to play. I think it would be great for his development.

Eller yes, Kaberle declines. Weber's a no-go with the injury.

Budaj declines, that one's a bit surprising. I figured he'd go just to get the chance to play a bit having sat most of the year.

Desharnais has not been invited yet but would accept if asked. Depending on who actually says no off the original list, I do think he deserves to be among those considered in that secondary wave of invites.

Well, what are their choices at C, to this point - ?

DD gets a lot of respect from media types outside Montreal. Whether he has earned respect within narrower hockey circles is another question; certainly the idea that he is a product of excellent wingers works against him.

Incidentally, is TSN carrying this? With the Habs out it might make a nice substitute hockey fix.

TSN usually does as the games are normally during the day as they are in Europe.

In no particular order, these are some of the more prominent options that spent at least some time at C and that I think would actually consider going (aka, not veterans like Lecavalier or Ribeiro): Tavares (confirmed I believe), Stamkos (Edit: not going), Getzlaf, Duchene, O'Reilly, E. Staal, Benn, Skinner, and Nugent-Hopkins. I would imagine they'll want a defensive/checking line C (Steve Ott would be my guess) so at most, you're looking at Desharnais competing for one of three spots with these guys (obviously a couple could move to the wing). He has a chance but I think a few of these guys would have to decline.

Wow, I like DD, but there is indeed an abundance of elite CDN centers missing the playoffs.

I don't like Desharnais' chances now. Right now, the C's are Getzlaf, Tavares, and O'Reilly (with Nugent-Hopkins and Skinner having C abilities).

Gorges (undisclosed injury) will not play, seems as if he did get a call from Team Canada though. Markov will not play for Russia, will not be invited.

Most of these teams are using this as a gear up to 2014. I guess they figure they want to give experience to their younger guys, as Markov alreayd has plenty.

Not a lot of teams taking the 30+ year olds

And that is not counting the centers potentially available after the 1st round: J. Staal, Spezza, Crosby (probably wouldn't play anyways), Toews, J. Thornton (too old?), M. Richards (could play wing), Carter (could play wings)..

Could it be that Markov just wasn't that great this season, and they'd rather not risk having him continue to be average for the duration of the tournament?

Definitely part of it too... Markov hasn't been 100% and this is a short tourney.

What's the problem? This is the only substitute we've got for the Habs being in the dance. I say enjoy it.

I'll enjoy it the day it will end with every Habs players avoiding any kind of useless injury.

For now, I'm worried our best dman could ###### up his knee for the most useless tournament.
