ICEWATER77
First off, I'd like to say that our PP isn't quite as awful now as it has been this season. Going forward, is a mediocre pp a recipe for disaster? Your thoughts?
Dalhabs
A good PP will force the other team to avoid penalties and give our team more room out there.
KoRP
Habs have the tools to have a good PP, having said that, a great PP could go a long ways in the first series or two before the whistles get put away... but in the end, I say less important, because it's not as big a factor most playoff games as the penalties are scarcer, but 5 on 5 is crucial to carry you far. habs rule
A P/P can be a very important tool. We are a very offensively challenged club, so the opportunity to score on the pp is more important to us than almost any team in the playoffs. That is my opinion, however Le Genius is not too good getting power plays to work for any great period of time. Since all our offence comes from the blue line maybe we should put Patches and 4 defenceman out there, can't hurt.
Habs30/31
Hoping it gets better for the play offs. Been some signs of improvement the last 6 or 7 games. Good thing we are not bad at 5 on 5 scoring. Freedman just pointing out habs are 4th in even strength goals. (with pacs of course)
ICEWATER77
Haha..good one HR It's a good thing Habs are excellent 5-on-5, and not reliant on their pp..like a few years back. I remember the pp going ICEcold and we were up ____creek
dlbalr
For me, the penalty kill is more important in the postseason than the PP. Even if the PP sucks, a strong PK unit can at least make the Habs neutral for special teams. When you consider they're one of the better 5-on-5 teams in the league, neutral isn't the end of the world. If Ottawa (or subsequent opponents) find a way to neutralize Montreal's 5-on-5 play though, then the PP becomes hugely important. But going into the playoffs, they should be able to get by with even a mediocre PP as long as the PK doesn't kill them.
Machine of Loving Grace
2010 Chicago Blackhawks: 16th Reg, 5th Playoffs Philadelphia Flyers: 3rd Reg, 7th Playoffs 2011 Boston Bruins: 20th Reg, 14th Playoffs Vancouver Canucks: 1st Reg, 8th Playoffs 2012 LA Kings: 17th Reg, 12th Playoffs New Jersey Devils: 14th Reg, 9th Playoffs 2013 Chicago Blackhawks: 19th Reg, 13th Playoffs Boston Bruins: 26th Reg, 8th Playoffs 2014 LA Kings: 27th Reg, 6th Playoffs New York Rangers: 15th Reg, 11th Playoffs 2007-2008 ruined Habs fans in thinking the powerplay was everything. ICEWATER77
My sentiments exactly. I figure we'll be playing at even strength for 85% of the game and will have to trust that our 5-on-5 play will carry us. Going down the stretch, our pp % grew and our pk % dropped somewhat..and coincidentally, so did our record
