Well I don't know if you have heard the news yet but Dick Tarnstrom has been traded to the Oilers in exchange for Jani Rita and Cory Cross.
Could the Habs've used this guy? Do you think they were/are in the running for an offensive D-man?
Not saying it's what I wanted, but what are your thoughts?

I would have liked tohave had him. I think Edmonton got him fairly cheap.

no, I don't think another smallish defenceman who doesnt hit, and had 1 good year is what we need.
There was a reason he was a healthy scratch in Pittsburgh often times
We gotta get bigger and tougher. Then the offence will fall in line

I would have passed on him.....Sure he had a "career-year" but isn't defensive minded.

Good deal either way. Rita a former first round pick is a solid forward who can bring some skill to the future of this young Pittsburgh team. Only 24 years old. Cross...meh hes aitee, they just needed a D to fill the gap.

I think we could have used Spacek more

Tarnstrom is a good offensive defenseman, that's about it. He's not great on the defensive side. Him and Gonchar paired up and probably the worst defensive duo in the league.

Powerplay defenceman. Tärnström is good but so are Rita and Cross. Don't think that the Habs had anyting that would made it worth it.

No way........................The habs would then have a guy on they're team with the name Dick. That would not be cool.

also, Edmonton traded Tony Salmelainen to Chicago for Jaroslav Spacek.
thats all Edmonton had to give up to get a decent defenceman. I think Montreal should have made an attempt to get him, we could have given up Ribeiro or even Zednik. It would have helped even more now, since Souray could be out for little bit too. I mean the guy that Edmonton gave isn't even that good, probably be no more then a third liner in the NHL.

Oilers acquire Tarnstrom and Spacek by giving up nothing of real value? They're D is getting very offensive. Why doesn't Gainey make a move before they're all gone?

Ribeiro or Zednik for Spacek?
Did you hit your head today?
Spacek is worth a Garth Murray or Downey type player...that's it. He is not a top 4 Dman on any team {St.Louis notwithstanding} and Edmonton paid fair market value for such a player.
Thank god Gainey is in charge and not some half-cocked fans that would trade just for that sake of trading.

a 1st round guy who doesn't play a premium role at his age..tells me alot about the guy. He suck's
I was at rexall place against buffalo and he didn't play.
he was edmonton's version of marcel hossa.
I like the spacek trade better but both moves were good.
