New personnel changes as well, which I think were for the better although the team didn't handle it very well. Old Stampeders QB John Hufnagel comes in to coach the team who has had nothing but glowing reviews. He was recently the New York Giants offensive coordinator and with his CFL experience, has the potential to be a very good coach. We also stole one of the best defensive coordinators in the CFL from Montreal in Chris Jones. His units usually end up top 3 in the league so I'm looking forward to what he can put together by next season. One of the bigger things they're trying is WR Marcus Howell playing CB. They're not sure if he's going to make it at this point as a CB, they want to see how he does in an actual game first so his play will be another thing to watch.

Offensively, the biggest news was Dave Dickenson coming home to back up the true MOP Henry Burris. Had Burris not been injured for 5 games last season, the trophy would've been his hands down. I still thought he deserved it but meh. Calgary could never find a reliable back-up last year and went 0-5 in the games Burris didn't play, thats where Dickenson comes in. Hopefully all we need is his leadership and guidance for Burris who has already learned from another of the games greats when Danny MacManus was the backup a few years ago.

The offense should continue to be the best in the league, depending on how quickly the O-Line gels together. Defensively, if Chris Jones can get them to play atleast moderately better then the Stampeders have a real good shot at getting to the Grey Cup. And finally, I'll end this with a quote from Chris Schultz which I kinda liked even though I don't like him.

Being head coach of the Stampeders may be the best job in CFL football. The city is great, the province is prosperous, the fans are dedicated and the talent is present right now.

On a side note, one of his teammates signed a Scholarship/Development agreement with the Regina Pats last fall. Kid is pretty talented and has been fun to watch. 

First time we actually had some sort of challenger for Audi supremacy. Peugeot went diesel but alas just like the morning sunrise Audi still won even with only 1 car left by 10 laps. (other 2 crashed out).

Rumour has is Porsche is getting back into protype racing so we could see an Audi-Peugeot-Porsche battle next year for the 76th running of the most iconic race in racing.

And here's a shocker the Corvette C6.R team lost! lol as if it couldn't get any worse for GM. The Aston Martin DBR9 beat the iconic yellow vets by a lap.

In F1 the rookie sensation Lewis Hamilton won again! I'm beginning to think Alonso is getting pissed. Here's the defending champion for the past 2 years signing this huge contract to race for Macleran Mercedes and then he gets upstaged by a rookie 22 year old black kid from Britain. Call the Queen because Britain has its next Jackie Stewart.

On the plus side, the US got a bronze from Jessie Diggins in the cross-country sprint and Scott Patterson put up a really solid 11th in the Skiathlon. Deedra Irwin put up our best ever finish in the biathlon Individual at 7th, and the mixed-relay team was in the thick of it until the final leg. Lindsay Jacobellis finally got redemption from giving away  the 2006 gold in snowboard cross.

On the down side, the mixed doubles curling team finished a lousy 8th. Our medal contenders in the men's and women's 1500m speed skating didn't come close to the medals. Our male lugers all made the top 20, but none were in contention. Our female lugers did even worse, with only one of them even making the final run. And then there is Mikaela Shiffrin... And NBC made her look so bad last night. They kept the camera on her while she was sulking on the sidelines for more than 10 minutes. They made it look like she was having a meltdown that was holding up the entire race, but no, the competition was still going on in the background.

This is really just a place for me to ask, does anyone think the Jays might be for real?

Our record is the best in the AL since Cito Gaston took over midway through last season, but I'm still pretty skeptical. The rotation is hanging on by a thread and the bats are bound to cool down eventually.

Shocked we were already ignoring the Olympics in the Lounge way back in 2012! 

Highlight of week 1 was Lydia Jacoby winning the 100m breast stroke. The celebration at the watch party in her home town was awesome. Bobby Fink's final 50 Ithe 800m and 1500m were pretty awesome, too. Lee Kiefer winning our first gold in Foil was cool, though I find foil to be the most difficult form of fencing to watch. 

Low points so far would be volleyball. Men's indoor team fell apart from the service line and failed to advance out of the group, while 3 of 4 beach teams went out in the round of 16. The women's indoor team is still going, but have two starters out with ankle injuries. Oh, and Archery was highly disappointing as well with no medals.

Lowest point is NBC's coverage. So many replays of events they've already shown being televised instead of full events from other sports. Not a single US judoka was shown, and most medal matches they showed were joined in progress near the end. Lots of archery and shooting events were shown in abbreviated form. I thought they had gotten over their habit of not showing events live that they plan on showing in primetime, but they've done it again with athletics and gymnastics. And tonight they've been showing the same thing live on two channels. Ugh. Edit: And immediately after posting this, they cut to commercial right in the middle of a long jumper running up to the line. Not the first instance of such crap.)

And the whole reason I looked up the 2012 thread... Y'all finally got your revenge in women's soccer. We were aided in 2012 by the weirdest call I've ever seen and today the game was decided by a brutal penalty call. I have no idea how they overturn the no-call on the field. I guess all you have to do to draw a penalty is stick your leg in front of someone trying to play the ball. Not that the US was ever going to win. They did almost nothing with all their possession and looked no better than the Australia game. 

The rules are pretty simple, the first poster asks a question, the next poster answers the question and asks one of their own. Other than that, the only rules are keep it civil. Don't be surprised if you don't get the answer you expect.

Jett Favre looked great today and the revamped D looked great as well. The kicker fiasco today sucked though and we almost lost the game because we had no one to kick an extra point. Mangenious better work on that.

Haven't really looked at much else across the league although I know Chicago beat Indy (say what!?) and I'm going to start week 1 off with a win in all of my fantasy leagues. Thankfully decided to swap Favre in for Hasselbeck on one team last night and swapped Parker in for Jones-Drew who went out and had a monster game against the Texans.

And let's try and keep rivalry hate to a minimum. The entire AFC East is represented here so things could get out of hand. Stealth is a Patriots fan, obviously I'm a Jets fan and Noah is a Bills fan. Theres a Phins fan here too but I forget his username.

France has a presidential election coming up next year and the Socialist Party picks the person who will run for it this week. I am a fan of Segolene Royal. She's the front runner in the race to get the nomination and I think she'll do great things.

Interesting fellow that Garth Turner. Maverick for sure. Wonder what he's going to say on Wednesday. All politicians have egos. So it wouldn't shock me if the urge of becoming Canada's first Green Party member in Parliament is just too strong. I think he'll go to the Greens.

Bob Rae: Comes out of the closet so to speak. He basically says he wants to unite the left, thats what I took from this article. The Liberals have a choice to make, Iggy is the Centre Right Canidate but he alienates the left part and Rae is the Centre-Left canidate he could alienate the progressive conservative right part. So what to do? Go to the right and go after Harper but at the same time lose more voters to the NDP? Or go left and take back some NDP votes and run on a unite the left (sort of) campaign? Interesting how this will plan out.

It really is Chretien and Martin all over again. Fascinating to watch. Then the NDP has the Greens to worry about. And the Tories? Well there always prone to imploding. Joe Clark still around?
