Hi guys,

Great news as we've got a new server that will improve the performance in general of the website and forum.

It is possible that we lost a few messages posted on the forum yesterday, Tuesday evening. I apologize for that!

If you notice any bug or issue on the website or forum, please kindly let me know it in this thread or by email at m.gauthier@habsworld.net

Hi guys,

With the season fast approaching, we’re looking to add a few writers to our team. We’re hoping to expand in a couple of particular areas specifically, our game coverage and Around the Boards segments.

We don’t have any set requirements as to a certain number of articles over a particular time frame, just help out when you can. No writing experience is necessary.

If you’re interested in writing for the site, know of someone who might be interested in writing, or have any questions, please let me know.

Thanks,
Brian

Late last night/early this morning, sakiqc added a trio of new skin options: red, black & white, and blue (somewhat similar to the previous forum). They can be used alongside the default skin, plus the mobile skin option for your phone. These can be accessed at the bottom left hand corner of any page you're on by simply clicking on the dropbar. I think we got most of the kinks worked out after the game yesterday but if something is amok, just let us know.

Known 'issues':

- ESPN ticker isn't available yet on the new skins (Now available)

- On the blue one, the sign out/help links are a little hard to see - they're in the same spot though

Hi guys,

We were recently under attacks by bots registering in high numbers. Our forum subscription was expired and we didn't have the latest version. I renewed it and performed the upgrade. However, we lost our beautiful Custom HabsWorld forums skin in the process. We have few members who said they were good in design (and html). If any of you are available, let me know.

There also appear to have new features in this version of the boards. Amongst other things, the forum is now easily accessible through smartphones. Feel free to comment about the new features in this thread, and the mods team and I will adjust the settings so the forum can be an enjoyable experience and a good place to share about the Habs.

Hey guys, on the top left of www.habsworld.net we had a bunch of Habs player rotating. Guess what, they are all gone! Bégin, Kovalev, Komisarek, Tanguay, Ryder. Even Plekanec had to be deleted (he wears his old #35)

And why not a good occasion to change our header as well?

The header is composed of two pictures. You can take advantage or not of the rotating system for the left part.

I have attached a template of the 302X115 and 467X96 images used

Create your own and have a chance to have it featured on HW's frontpage!

You can post your picture here or send it to me at m.gauthier@habsworld.net

Just thought I'd pass along some info on some of the goings on here at the site over the last few weeks. As many of you know, we're dedicating the offseason to update all of our old content and add some new stuff along the way.

Some of the big things that have happened already or are in progress:

New player profiles, written by Matt Godbout and Tristan Tapscott. We've broken them into 2 different categories, NHL'ers and prospects/AHL'ers.

Several of the pages in our Legends section have received updates, courtesy of Fred Doyon.

Our All-Time Jersey List has now been updated with over 500 names added to the original list (some of those appearing more than once as they wore multiple numbers).

We're still looking to update our banner at the top of the site, it's a great opportunity for you to show off your artistic skills. Click here for all the details.

Of course, we're still welcoming people who want to help out with the site throughout the summer and into the season, whether it's with research, writing, or anything in between. If you want to help out or have any suggestions on how we can improve HW as this is our Habs community, please feel free to contact me or our website's administrator, sakiqc.

FYI: The HW Forum rules were slightly edited today. We have 8 rules now instead of the previous 4. But if you read them, they can be summarized by two words: fun & respect.

It has already been more than 5 years that the board is running, and it has been stellar 99% of the time! Keep it up everyone, and kudos to the dedication of the mods team over the years.

No, we're not getting our own radio station (wouldn't that be something), but I thought this may be worth mentioning anyways.

Early this morning, I pre-recorded an interview with CBC Radio One's Sonali Karnick talking about the Habs; the segment will run tomorrow morning at 8:15 AM. From what I've been told, the feature will run around 3 minutes, with my interview counting for about half of it (there's a Montreal-based blogger also contributing to this report.)

For anyone who may be interested in listening, here's a couple of links to the Daybreak site. The first will let you listen live (after you click another link), while the second is an archive for the day, in case anyone sees this tomorrow and is interested to hear what I have to say (and sound like.)

I am presently working on an oral history of the NHL's Original Six Era from 1942 to 1967. Since October 2005 I have been interviewing former players, journalists, etc. who played or took part in that era. Some players I've interviewed are former Habs: Ray Getliffe, the late Gerry Heffernan, and Tom Johnson. I hope to interview as many players from that era as possible but I also want to interview 2-3 diehard, hardcore Habs fans who attended games on a regular or semi-regular basis between 1942 to 1967.

I am looking for people who can take me back to that glorious era and describe to me the sights, sounds, smells, and memories of the Montreal Forum and its great players: Maurice and Henri Richard, Beliveau, Plante, Durnan, Harvey, Moore, Worsley, et al.

I am focusing on certain time periods: 1942-1946, 1956-1960, and 1965 to 1967.

I am also focusing on specific events: the many Stanley Cup finals (especially the 1965 Finals), the Richard Riot of 1955.

I am looking for fans who can talk to me about the Montreal Journalists they read: Red Fisher, Elmer Ferguson, et al.

Also broadcasters: Danny Gallivan, Rene LeCavalier, Dick Irvin, Jr.

Also fans who had a close encounter with a player from that era: autograph, handshake, personal appearance, next-door neighbor, etc.

If you fit the profile of what I'm looking for or know someone who does and is willing to be interviewed on tape by me, please contact me at the email address listed below.

I need 2-3 people.

I will be in the greater Montreal area from April 21-29 this year. I hope to meet with anyone who responds to my message.

I want serious replies only! This is not a joke!

respectfully,

Matt

As many of you have noticed, in the past week or so the HW forums have been getting quite a bit of spam, most of it about adult products. The Mod team is doing its best to shut these threads down as soon as they pop up, but obviously we can't monitor things 24/7. If you notice such a thread, please use the "Report" button, located at the botton of every post. This way, Mods will be informed of such threads the second they sign back into the forums.

As of now, we do not know how the bots are bypassing the email validation system. The HW team is working on fidning a way to make the site more secure so that automated bots will not be able to continue spamming our site. I just wanted to take the time to let everyone know about the situation and that we are working on ways to stop the spam.

Hi fellow Habs Fans! Here are some updates about our HabsWorld forum.

First forum advertisement

The forum, which opened on May 12, 2003, now has more than 1300 members. As we continue to grow, our need for better and larger hosting services is also increasing. The project was created by, and for, Habs Fans, and we want you to be sure that the Habs fans that are managing this website and forum have absolutely no intention of making any profit from HabsWorld. We face normal expenses associated with the good functioning of a website like ours and we have now put our first advertisement on the forum. We have been very proud to be able to run the forum without any annoying publicity. Hopefully, the little Google ads will be good enough to help cover our costs and will be relevant to us. Please feel free to leave comments/suggestions concerning this idea.

New moderating team

HabsWorld's success is due to the impressive general harmony between members. Thanks to the many regular posters who help carry a positive attitude. It's normal that sometimes there are disagreements and maybe little fights, as well as funny (and not-so funny) bots, simultaneously started threads and other things that requires the presence of our moderators. They are here to keep the forum alive and running smoothly. Here is your moderating team for 2006-07:

alexstream Montreal

dlbalr Ontario

Fanpuck33 Ohio

huzer Colorado

JeanLucPilon Japan

KoZed Quebec

simonus Indiana

New Forums in French!

To accomodate our large French audience and to encourage discussion on the great articles of our French writers, we are pleased to announce today the opening of a new French sub-forum. The moderators below will be in charge of the French forum.

alexstream Montreal

KoZed Quebec

simonus Indiana

Thanks to all of you and hopefully we'll enjoy a great season.. and the longest playoffs possible!

Sincerely,

Thanks to everyone for making this a great community. Next Friday will mark HabsWorld's 3rd anniversary, and we just passed the 100,000 messages milestone. HabsWorld was created by passionate Habs fans who desired to have a real place to discuss about their team, a place created BY and FOR us the fans. It wasn't created with the idea of getting the most members in the shortest period of time. We are growing slowly but surely, adding 1 quality member at the time. Thanks to every member, and a special thank you to our German friend Hannes for starting up a great hockey simulation game where 30 HW forums members can play againts each others. Thanks everyone and I look forward for the next 100 000 posts!

GO Habs GO !

Latest Events

On the 21st of December at 6pm EST, the HW Forums were hacked by 2 people with IP originating from Kuwait. The HW Forums were successfully closed around 30 minutes after the strike, to put down the hacked version of the forum which contained a signature of the hacker along a suspicious JavaScript code. We put back a backup version of the website, which was hacked down again. We then close the Forums for few hours, the time to install and set up a new forum. We recommend every HW visitor who saw the hacked page of HW to run an antivirus as soon as possible, just in case.

New Forums. New features and some import problems

The admins collaborators have bought a forum software from Invision. In the last hours we worked at moving the 1000 members/ 60 000 posts into the new forums. In the process, we lost few -non critical- settings like avatar and signatures, who aren’t showing up properly for everyone. If you can’t log in your account: Some members can’t log with their accounts on the new Forum. The majority is because they forgot their password. Please try first the password recovery tool. If you still have problems, contact me at m.gauthier@habsworld.net. Other problem noticed, U2Us. We lost half of them. We’ll try to recover them, or we’ll just delete every PM and start over.

Skins and customization

Spathe, the HW Architect, has created a beautiful header in a short time notice. That’s a great start. He’ll probably create other skins, when time allows. I created new user ranks, and will update it when time allows.

New features

The new forum has tons of new features. Take the time to update your personal profile and look around. Here are the most important new features:

Under the header, there are important links:

“View New Posts” where you can see all the latest messages;

“My Controls” where you can edit your Settings and profile;

“My Assistant”, a cool new application to help you track the forum;

“0 New message”, where you can easily see if you have PM, and access them. BTW, “PM” are for “Private Messages” and replace the old “U2U”

Other features

Multi quotes feature, rating feature,

Moderators team

We appointed new moderators to the crew, to help the admins and existing mods to manage the growing forum. Here is your mods crew:

-	Colin

-	dlbalr

-	Fanpuck33

-	Habs77

-	JeanLucPilon

- KoZed

-	simonus

BTW, if you discover new features, tell them to others!! Write them here! hehe
