  1. I rarely post anymore and was saving post number 1000 for something special like a Cup win one more time before I leave this world. I've been a lifelong fan of the Canadiens going back to the original dynasty, and my dad was alive for every single Stanley Cup victory the Habs had. But I feel it's important to thank my mother right now. She passed away in her late 90's earlier today. She was a long time Detroit Red Wings fan from the earliest days, which always made for some heated Saturday nights way back when, but I think she talked to those stubborn Forum ghosts today - she knew how much I loved my Canadiens. So I will give thanks for this as it brings a bit of joy to a rather sad day for our family. Les Canadiens Sont La

  2. Feels good, doesn't it? I've been writing here for 18 years now, it's a great feeling knowing I'm finally going to get to write about the Habs in the Final.

  8. On paper it all looked good to start the season - then the season started and it was WONDERFUL. It didn’t feel like they were just getting the bounces or winning games they deserved to lose - they looked like a team I hadn’t seen in decades - and was so excited it was the Habs! I bought a package so I could watch all the games (I’m in Ohio) because I really believed in them. then came the slump. to me, it was a head scratcher because I felt like I saw something those first games and I couldn’t figure out what happened - quit on the coach? Injuries? Opponents adjusting tactics? after game 4 vs Toronto I quit on the Habs after believing in them all year! I told my son, I’ll watch the game because it’s what I do - but they looked dead with no hope of resuscitation when down 3-1. but game 5 - there was just no quit. Then 6 and 7. From then on, I was a believer again. The team from on paper and early this season was back - and BETTER than ever (tho perhaps a little less firewagon fun hockey - but - it’s playoff time!) I knew we could handle the Jets. I knew we could hang with the Knights (although - admittedly, I expected Knights in 6). almost all my hopes and dreams for this team have ACTUALLY come true! The perfect storm. there’s just one more hope and dream. Stanley Cup #25!!!

  10. I think it's time to eat crow and apologize to the core group and management and coaching staff After a great off season by Bergevin I thought we finally had a great team and it showed in the first 10 games. Then we hit that same wall around the deadline. A lot of us hit the panic button. Then we made the playoffs, then we went down 3-1 and we hit the panic button again. Well here we are in the cup final for the first time in 93. So I hear by say i am sorry for hitting that panic button. Congrats to Bergevin, and the rest of the team. Thanks for proving me wrong.

  14. Hahaha... Good for you Commandant. I'm out of upvotes too. And I do want to thank all of you guys who shared your stories and experiences of the year and of the playoffs with all of us. They are lovely; jewels of life full of hugging children and lessons on the human spirit and faith. Wonderful stuff. Why the Habs exist. Thanks to you all. I was in a renovated log cabin on the shores of Lake Huron with a close friend who has an Irish background. Kate said she had just finished saying a prayer for the Habs... when Gallagher set up the winning goal for that line that did so much of the hard work for the team. Wonderful. The Habs are the Habs again. I gave the bus to a charity with the rope still attached to the rear bumper.

  17. Elite Price makes a massive difference (as it should). But the difference between regular season and playoffs is significant too. First of all, the regular season, even in its 56-game attenuated form, is a grind with no end in sight and no defined target other than making the playoffs. Aging veterans tend to suffer in that context. By contrast, the playoffs are broken into defined 7-game series and aging vets are often able to recover their old form for those limited spurts. Close games in the regular season are decided by 3-on-3 OT and shootout. That is very, very different from a 5-on-5 sudden death format. Maybe more importantly, the way the regular season and playoffs are managed by the officials are completely different. It’s as though they are two different sports, really. The regular season rewards speed and skill. The playoffs reward grinding, relentlessness, size, and defence. In short, the 2021 NHL reverts to 1998 come playoff time. I think Bergevin realized this. His D still suffers from the lack of a puck-mover to spell of Petry, but he believed in the “Clydesdale” model of huge, suffocating D-men who could grind the daylights out of more skilled opponents. Over the regular season, it looked crazy - old, slow, plodding. But once the refs shove the whistles up their arses, they look legendary. This is the game they’re built for. One interesting angle is the Habs’ willingness to ice the puck. Of course this is not the goal, but I think they are getting clear coaching instructions that icing is acceptable; it seems to be a strategic option within the defensive game plan. They’re getting away with it too.

  18. WOW!! I missed the game because of other obligations but I couldn't be happier. Having a cold one to celebrate right now. What a goal by Caufield!! That kid can play. And I still like the Suzuki trade. LOL

  27. Game 5 reffing was perfect and an example of how playoffs should be called. Contrast that with the Lee’s prison rules style. How does Lee still have a job? NHL needs fresh thinking in all areas of the sport. Player safety and reffing are not in good shape at all
