Has anyone heard any rumours what the injury is to Struble? I hope it's not serious, although I am glad to see Kovacevic back in the lineup.

Is it just coincidence that Allen is playing against a team that is supposedly in the market for a goalie?
Oh that's no coincidence. Let's hope he plays a decent game, and the Habs jettison him to New Jersey for ... anything.

Pezzetta scored a nice goal too. Tough to watch ex-Hab Charlie Lindgren being pulled, but I don't really blame him for any of those goals.
I am very surprised at Montreal's start tonight. Washington looks listless though.

Slick Nick gets a rebound off the post to put the Habs up 2-0 ! Quelle surprise!!

Caufield dishes a beautiful saucer pass to Suzuki, and he puts it in the net. Habs up 1-0 !

I think it's more likely they're just starting him against his hometown team. Ersson signed a two-year extension before the season so he's Hart's backup moving forward. Philly also has Sandstrom in the minors so they're probably not in the market for a goalie.
You may be right. It's also possible that with New Jersey very close by and in need of a goaltending improvement, the Devils could be the target team interested in Primeau.

Nice work by Savard, pile-driving that guy in the crease
Negated by Harris panic puck over glass penalty; took Flyers 29 seconds to score PPG/

I can't remember a time when the Habs scored on every official shot on goal in the first period. This may be a team record! Let's see if someone in the media or on Twitter will confirm that.

Close call on the Flyers scoring chance, had to go to a refs video review. It was not clearly over the line no matter what angle they showed. Refs [finally] made the right call.
-
Montreal has 2 shots and 2 goals. Gotta love that.
Savard got credit for the goal later.

Good shot by Barron, and a great tip by Monahan to get the Habs on the board first!
-
Another start for Primeau versus Philadelphia. I can't help but think they are showcasing him to generate more interest by the Flyers.

Send him back to Laval and give Ylonen more icetime and recall Heineman again.
Yes to all of the above! Armia is terrible, and block the ice time from Ylonen. An Armia demotion would boost Ylonen, and give Heineman a chance at some 4th line ice time. He did not fare that well in his first games, but it's easy to think he needs some time to adjust to the NHL pace and coach Marty's philosophies.

Would Barron, Kovacevic or Harris be any better?
If it's 5-on-5, I would trust Kovacevic, now. If it's a power play, then I am fine with Barron, but he has more defensive lapses/decision making gaffes than any other Habs defenceman this season.
I also think Kovacevic would be fine short-handed with Matheson; he makes better decisions in his defensive zone than the other two. Harris is not fully developed in his defensive game yet, and in my opinion could benefit from some time in the AHL.

Is anyone else tired of watching Savard paired with Matheson? That duo does not work together; Matheson needs a new steady partner, but coach Marty appears too scared to not give the two veteran defenceman the first pairing minutes.
Also, Why was Harris trying to forecheck near the blueline on two goals against tonight? He's a defenceman, who needs to stay back when the pressure is in his own zone. He is not Bobby Orr.

Their defence may not be that good (or at least as well known) individually but as a team they have the 4th best GAA in the NHL.
Ok, I admit I did not know that. That is a very impressive stat, when you consider Florida was missing their best 2 defenceman for the first dozen and a half games to start the season [Ekblad, Montour].
-
Why do the Habs have only 8 shots after 2 periods?! Florida's defense is not that good. Very frustrating watching this game so far.

SneakySmart shot by Caufield.13:00 for Struble.
It was both smart and sneaky. He noticed the 6'7" goalie bent over to put his stick on the ice, which exposed the top part of the net.

With young players, you want them to get consistent minutes, not get yo-yo'ed back and forth. Roy isn't NHL-ready after just four AHL games and this is a short-term recall with Dvorak due back in a couple of weeks. It makes more sense for the promotion to be a veteran where they don't care if he sits. If Roy is still lighting it up after a couple of months, then it's time to consider making room for him and giving him a look. We're a long way from that point.
Brian, I'm sure you're right that the Habs will treat Roy that way. Maybe if he keeps up a good scoring rate and the rest of his game is solid, he may get a call up around the half way point of the season.

I'd have thought so too but St. Louis said no, he's sitting tonight.
Good that Armia sits, but is anyone else disappointed he was called up? I know he scored 4 goals (1 empty net) & 1 assists in 4 AHL games, but I would rather have called up Joshua Roy (5 goals, 4 assists) in 4 games. He was dominant in his last game, scoring 5 points.
The Habs braintrust said Armia was injured during training camp, so he did not get a fair chance to show what he can do. I am hoping this call up is his last chance, and when he eventually plays without any effort like he usually does, then he should be permanently assigned to the farm team.

Another soft one by Allen. This game shouldn't be as close as it is.
That is the modus operandi for Allen; allow soft goals and make a few good saves. If the Habs dont rotate Montambeault every other game this season, and instead give Allen most of the starts, this team wont have a .500 record.
-
I really hope they flip Petry before training camp starts, but that will be a tricky move.
Petry is a LD, so that gives the Habs Petry, Harris and Guhle as natural left shooting blueliners. The other five defencemen are right shooting.
I'll need a little time to digest this trade, but will have more to say when the Habsworld WWI article is published sometime this week.

BPA fits a team when they have depth, but that's not the case in a rebuilding Montreal.
I give this team credit for rallying back to make this game 4-3. They made it exciting to watch.

I lost respect for Craig Button. His "mock draft" has the Habs picking two left wingers, Colby Barlow and Eduard Sale. I doubt Button has looked at their depth chart lately, because this team has a much bigger need at center and right winger, over the left side. Also, Craig must have forgot that Slavkovsky is the left winger they drafted first overall last summer.
I don't have anything against these two players, but with so many good centers at the top half of this draft, I would seriously question Hughes judgment if he used both of his picks to take two left wingers.
Also, Button is terrible as a colour man during this game. Too many times, he interjects to talk about something unrelated or little related to this game while the play is in action. One time the guy calling the game had to interject to quickly describe a scoring chance. I used to think Pierre Mcguire was a terrible colour man for the Habs, but Button now has risen past him.

Good to see Montreal traded Allen for anything at all. I've never been a fan of his, and his time was overdue to leave. Now Montreal will get more opportunities to see what they have in Primeau as their backup.
