I'm happy he signed although I don't like seeing that many bonuses in there. It won't be an issue this year but next season, it will be something to watch for.
That's a good point. I wonder exactly what his bonuses are? Other than the something tied to winning the rookie of the year award or finishing in the top vote-getters for that, what other types of bonuses could they be?

The rest of Ylonen's game is a work in progress but his shot is already quite strong.
Agreed. I would like to see more of Ylonen to get a better read on him.

I am late in posting this, but our newest podcast (episode 89) was recorded the evening of the trade deadline, March 21st. Quite a lot of Habs topics were discussed, and many laughs were shared too. You can listen to it at the Habsworld URL below, or from your favourite podcast feeder. Please note, if you use Spotify to listen to our podcast, you will have to scroll to the bottom of the list to find the newest episode. This is due to a bug with the Spotify app; I am working with their technical staff to get this worked out.

Are the podcasters regular posters on the forum?
Yes. As Brian mentioned, Paul and I are active in the forums. Jonathan, not so much.
Feel free to ask any questions about the podcast, and/or give me feedback.

Good day everyone
Our newest podcast, #88, is now online. We had a lot to discuss given the news of the hiring of interim head coach Martin St. Louis (and why there is the interim tag), the recent trade of Tyler Toffoli, the play of the Canadiens since the coaching change, and much more. Feel free to give us feedback (bad or good) here, on our Podmatic host, or any of the many podcast feeder services you use.

Well, Mailloux is off to a strong start with the London Knights. He scored two assists in his first game, and two goals in his second game.

Interesting. At least he's off Montreal's payroll.

Another Habs breakaway (Suzuki) and a slash at the last moment causes Suzuki to flub the shot. No penalty again!? Referees are a joke in this game.
-
What was that effing ref looking at on the Caufield Breakaway?!

Is it just me, or is the Savard Kulak pairing one of the worst defensive duos the Habs have ever iced?
I know the team is decimated by Covid19 but these players are supported to be NHL experienced blueliners.

Hey everyone
A new Habsworld podcast is now online. Jonathan Rebelo, Paul Macleod and I had a lot to talk about including Geoff Molson's front office clean out, Marc Bergevin’s regime with the Habs, some potential GM replacements, Alexander Romanov and much more. I hope you'll give us a listen, and rate us through your favourite podcast feeder.

Clague is an interesting pick up. He was pushed down the King depth chart after Sean Durzi arrived; from what I can tell he was their #8 defenceman not including injured veteran Sean Walker. He's just in his 3rd season as a pro, and spent most of that time developing in the AHL with a few call ups the first two seasons. He's supposed to be very mobile, a good skater, and mindful enough defensively. He's only 6' 00 in size so he will struggle against larger opponents like all small-ish offensive blueliners do. I think this is a good move, since he's a much better pro prospect than Corey Schueneman. I hope this move is not at the expense of Norlinder, as I would like to see him given more of a look with the Habs.

I have no idea who the best candidates are out there, but it would be nice not to limit ourselves to French-speaking candidates with at least one of our next GM or coach. The coach speaks to the media more often so let it be the GM. Get Serge Savard or Brodeur as the president who can deal with public relations and a modern-thinking GM who will make us a top-class organization with a coherent developmental philosophy from the ground up. I don't have much hope for this, unfortunately, as we are a backwards-facing organization with unrealistic standards based on our glorious history, and knee-capped by our singular language politics.
Neech, I agree with you, and said pretty much the same thing in the latest Habsworld podcast (#85).

If Allen is going to miss the next game, for the love of God Bergevin, call up Primeau. Of course Dom will need to start him, and I am not confident he will.

Hey everyone!

Seems like the same story of last season, penalties killing momentum.
That's accurate, but also very true for nearly every NHL team. Let's see what happens when the Leafs finally get a penalty or more called against them.

Great start for the Dvorak line on the first shift!!

Hey everyone! We recorded a new Habsworld podcast last night. Among the many topics we discussed the Nick Suzuki contract extension, Carey Price entering the Player Assistance program, the Jesperi Kotkaniemi offer sheet saga, along with all of the off-season additions, pre-season moves, and much more. Please give it a listen. I love any feedback, good or bad.

If I read everything correctly, CapFriendly shows the Habs with total AAVs of $83,776,370 (includes 24 players, Alzner's buyout and the $597,561 in bonus carryovers from last season) ... putting Weber on LTIR puts them at the NHL roster limit of 23 players and will give the Habs an adjusted "ceiling" of $89,357,140 ... so the Habs have $5,580,770 in AAV remaining that could be spent ... but being over $81.5M makes roster management trickier.
BTW, ... CF currently shows Byron on LTIR but, as he is expected back around Christmas/New Years I doubt he starts the season there ... his full AAV will have to be included under the cap when he returns, so if he starts the year on LTIR a significant trade would need to be made to make room for his return (or trade him)
I would love to know, exactly what types of bonuses are given to new players on their ELC, and on 35+ veterans on their one year contracts. So far I have heard only rumours of bonuses for rookies like voting for the Calder trophy and for winning it; also bonuses of games played for veterans. If anyone knows of any recent examples of either class of bonus, please let me know.

Hi everyone! I recorded a new HW podcast along with Paul MacLeod and Jonathan Rebelo. Topics discussed include the changes to the team via free agency, the Seattle expansion draft, the very controversial first round amateur draft selection of Logan Mailloux, and much more. These recent podcasts have been recorded using Zoom to help improve the quality. I hope you have have a listen, and encourage you to give us feedback.

I am glad to hear they are working with him; hopefully that will build him up into a better person, instead of tearing him down like the "cancel culture" would prefer be done. I don't condone what he did, but he was an immature kid when it happened.
Bergevin also eff-ed up by drafting him, when he asked not to be drafted. I wonder if that debacle will get discussed at an NHL GM or governor meetings. I would think if a kid decides to opt out of their draft year, then that should be allowed.
