  1. I wouldn’t say Muzzin is even all that much better than Chiarot is right now.

You do realize we agree here right...

With that said, I wanted the Habs to sign either of Panarin or Karlsson as a UFA in the summer. To me, paying those 2 guys in particular even with those high CAP hits would of been worth it personally.

It would have been great to get either of those two but unfortunately both seemed to have made up there minds on there current locations.

It’s the timing of the conversation. Chia rot has never done much more than be a 20 point player. He may hit 26 points this year and call it a good day. Once the playoffs come around we can’t expect the way he’s been playing to sustain itself. The Habs need an upgrade on the top pair. Imagine Chiarot on the second pair and Mete on the third pair. Now we’re talking.

I agree an upgrade on any position would be great but at the same time what would be the cost? Playoffs I think Chiarot would do well because he’s a big body that can move his feet.

When the other forward options are Lehkonen, Thompson, and two recent call-ups from the minors that have had minimal practice time with the team, his placement is a little more justifiable.  His overall PP numbers with the Habs aren't half bad either.

Maybe not on the point on the PP but his passing ability is definitely underrated in the NHL

It’s true that because of injuries there not many other options but I don’t think his playmaking abilities are all that good or his shot for that matter.

  4. Oddly enough Chiarots emergence as a top 4 D has been a welcome surprise. He has looked really good next to Weber and has actually given Weber the ability to be more offensive minded and it’s paying off.

If Mete can continue to grow into a top 4 and Kulak can round out the bottom pair, things might be working themselves out. Chiarot stepping up like he has has done wonders.

    Hudon = Lehkonen light

Lehkonen at least is good defensively and plays the body and every once and a while finds the back of the net. Which makes him useful.

Agreed... he's had a hot hand. Hudon just cant seem to make the most of his chances with the big club. He's a good kid but thats not good enough. He needs results and cant catch a break.

He just can’t seem to sink a goal. Had he scored on his plenty of chances he’s had the last few weeks it might have changed his fortunes.

We don't have any 'young established stars.' And I do not believe our crop of prospects will be contending in 2-3 years without Price and Weber still being impact players.

I’m talking about what you need to get from Price in a trade is a young established or on the rise kind of star. But they have to be young to fit into our next group of core players.

I'm not on Team Tank, but I think it's an interesting hypothetical to ask which teams might want Price and what the return might be. I doubt that it would be enough to have a transformational effect and propel the Habs toward future contention.

If the plan is to trade Price you need young established stars that will be young enough to contend when our current crop of prospects have entered the league and are hitting there stride. Primeau/Suzuki/Koktaniemi/Caufield/Poehling.

Which would mean at least 2-3 years before seeing a chance to start contending.

Agree, even if you are doing a rebuild you need some veteran leadership to show the way. The Oilers will absolutely abysmal because they didn't have a strong enough veteran presence when they had some talented kids. Ask Andrew Ference about that. He really unloaded on them.   Now their young talented guys have character.

I think MB decided a couple years ago that the only real way to build a winner was through the draft and making the odd trade when appropriate.  I think the Pacioretty trade will pay off in spades. The pass Suzuki made on the 3rd  goal was phenomenal.

I think Suzuki is going to be a special player and to his credit Kotkaniemi looks to be turning it around and is finding his confidence again which are positive signs.
