I think also that if you grow up with an NHL father you see the commitment and dedication that it takes to be successful. It certainly doesn't guarantee anything but it has to help a little.

That didn’t turn out good for Daniel Briere’s son now did it.

  2. So fare I've been happy with what's been going on with this management team. Hughes has been doing a great job with trades and getting picks with what little room of cap space he has been working with. I think we finally have a deep prospect pool and are well balanced in prospects.  I also believe that development has been a lot better and in the next few years we might have the best Dcore in the league.

In 2 years time i believe the rebuild will be over because we will have a lot of cap space with contracts of Armia, Dvorak,   Evans, Savard,  Allen,  Petry all expiring. Then a year after that Price then Gallagher, so we will be seeing a boat load of cap space to sign our own and bring in some top UFA's. So it should be interesting to see how management work Free agency.

    Maybe?

Not many lines stay together long more duos seem to, like Monahan-Slafkovski seem like smart combo to try at least, with a vet centre for the big kid to work with.

I thought Slafkovski look good and played his best hockey with Monahan at center on his line. Newhook could add a different look to that line. Anyway just my food for thought.

I’m itching to see Newhook play and I’m super excited to see if Slafkovsky has improved.

Im also stoked at the possibility of having a player in the Rocket Richard trophy race.

    Go Habs Go

Would like to see what a line of

Slafkovsky / Monahan  / Newhook  could do together.  I think they would have nice chemistry together.

I dont think its much of a competition.  Lindstrom is a more competition for wideman for the 7th spot.  Savard, Barron, and Kovacevic should be comfortably ahead.

Sounds like we just dumped Petry for little.

Looks more like Management did Petry a solid and traded him to his home town. You got to respect that and I'm sure players respect it.

    SKILLSY?:D

But, his offense i would love him to work on, but Matheson will be on PP1 for sure with Habs, so in Laval they can maybe give him more offensive opportunities and sadly doubt will be too long before injuries will open up a spot for recall anyways.

I thought once he got more comfortable in the NHL his offense was coming around.

the petry we're getting isn't the petry of a few years ago in the playoffs. We're getting a run down towards the end of career petry. The only value his going to have is on a playoff team playing 10mins a game as a 5th or 6th Dman and 2nd unit power play guy. Just saying I would rather give those mins to Xhekaj and further develop him.

  7. 1 hour ago, DON said:

     Why?

Cause he fights isnt a good enough reason (even though Petry is absent minded and bit scary in his own end)?

Xhekaj may not even be a good 3rd pairing d-man, we dont know yet. As he has only play 1/2 a season in the NHL as a total unknown, on a horrible team where Wins/Losses didnt matter.

Sheldon Souray looked good for awhile also, is closest  Hab d-man i can think of. He was big, could shoot and fight but was a pylon.

    Sorry but I disagree,
Xhekaj was developing his game really good up until he got hurt.

He hits and plays physical especially in front of our net.

He has a hard shot that he hits the net with.

Blocks a lot of shots too.

He's going to be a good two way Dman in this league. I see him as a Gill type of Dman.

Petry is past his usefulness and is too soft. I would much rather have Khekaj as a 6th or 7th D then Petry.

Petry is useful on the power play yes but not on a team that will probably be a lottery team again.  If we can get a 2nd or 3rd for him before the season starts take it and run.

    I see Ghule with Petry

    Mattheson with Savard

    Harris with Barron

    Kovacevic as the 7th Dman.

    Wideman to Laval.

Not sure with Xhekaj, but they could keep 8.

I would take Xhekaj  full time over Petry all day long. Team plays bigger with him in the lineup.  Last year you saw the difference when he was in the lineup we won games and players played better. Without him we lost more games and the team didn't have that same effect.

Right now their is a log jam at d especially if  Reinbacher makes the team.

    Guhle

    Reinbacher

    Harris

    Barron

    Kovacevic

    Savard

    Matheson

    Xhekaj

    Petry

    Wideman

That's 10 D I agree Wideman will play in Lavel. Question mark will be how well Reinbacher plays in preseason and training camp.  But let's say he start's in Lavel too , it still leaves us with 8 D. With the youth movement and rebuild I just don't see how you play Petry over Xhekaj.

Suspect it may just be pending Petry (i.e., what does he want to do, do they want to do with him) ...  they can't welcome DeSmith and not also welcome Petry.

They need to clear  5.1mil in cap space before the start of the season. Flipping them both would help. So I really don't see Petry or DeSmith on the opening day roster unless Armia or/and Dvorak gets moved. Or Allan and Petry get moved and we keep Desmith. Then that would put us under the cap.

Vegas just won the cup with a roster where noone has ever scored 100 points.  Phil Kessel had a 92 point season in Pittsburgh but hes well past that and was a healthy scratch in the playoffs.

The best for forwards they actually use. An 82 point season for Eichel jn Buffalo.

I dont know that you need someone who is  100 point guy to win the cup

You need depth to win a cup, depth on the main roster and depth in the farm system. That's what wins in the playoffs and 7 game series.

  11. I would say as soon as our bad contracts thanks to Bergevin are over , our rebuild will be over.

We have 1 year left in  Hoffman

Dvorak, Savard and  Armia have 2 years left

    Price has 3 years left

Gallagher and Anderson have 4 years left

So i will say we have 3 years to go , Anderson is tradeable but Gallagher will be a buy out in his final year.

then our new young core will be ready to make the next jump to being a playoff team and we will have money to spend in free agency.

If they are so easy to get why haven’t we had any 40 goal scorers since the 90’s, any 50 goal scorers since the 80’s, any 90 point guy since the early/mid 90’s, no 100 point guy since the mid 80’s. If I remember correctly, Kovolev is our first 80 point guy since Damphousse who got 80 in 96’ or 97’.

yeah it’s really easy to get goal scorers and offensive players through free agency and trades🙄

on the other hand we’ve had Markov, Subban, and Weber as top dmen. Theodore and Price as Hart winning goalies. But offense is so much easier to find🙄

Management has never made any trades to try a get a top goal scorer when they become available because we haven't had the depth in our system to make those trades. Also never put up the money in free agency to sign one either.

With the type of talent we have in our system now in the next 2-3 years we will be able to make those type of trades to add to this core group.

Just look at the golden knights for example,

    Traded for Echel, Stone

    Florida traded for tkachuk

    Those players do come available

  13. Can't believe they're people not liking this pick SMH. Last five team's to win the cup all had big strong two way Dman on the there D.  We draft a big need that's hard to come by, a big strong RHD.

Goal scorers are easy to draft, trade for, sign in free agency.

Man our D is going to be one tough Dcore in the next few years maybe the best we have ever had in the last 30 years.

    Guhle  /  Reinbacher

    Hutson / Xhekaj

    Harris  /  Barron

    That's a solid Dcore

I wonder if Newhook is part of a package going to Winnipeg 🤔

Im also curious if Newhook plays wing like Dach did, alongside Suzuki?

    Caufield - Suzuki - Newhook

    Slafkovski - Dach - Monahan

    Anderson - Dvorak - Gallagher

It feels like Christmas and tomorrow can’t get here soon enough!

It will feel more like Christmas if we can trade Hoffman, Armia, and Gallagher 😹
