I think that is very wishful thinking. I see Drouin as having zero value right now.  Packaging  him with someone else doesn't help as the other team still has to find the money to eat 50% of the contract.  I would love to be wrong on this.

Drouin on the top line has no value. But Drouin in a bottom 6 roll with no pressure on him has value as a depth guy on a playoff team. His contract will be at around 2.5mil at the deadline , he's a UFA at seasons end. One of those low risk high reward trades for a playoff team looking to add depth.   We can also eat around 1.5mil of that contract so the team taking him gets him for 500,000k.  Comes off the books at seasons end.

I think you're going to be disappointed as probably only one of those four actually move.  Two have no value and a Dvorak trade is easier in the summer than midseason.

He didn't look great in that period although he didn't exactly have a lot of help in his defence.

Drouin and Dadnov could get us a 4th-7th round pick in the draft at this point. Assets are assets. Will take a lower end pick for them than let them walk.

Or you can package them in a deal

Drouin + Monahan can get you  a even better return.

Dadonov + Edmunson  can get you  a good return also.

Team's looking to add depth for a playoff run would love these types of guys on their team.

Again this is just an example to give you an idea of how to get more value in a trade for Drouin and Dadonov then to just trade them by themselves.

I don’t think Anderson adds anything to the success of his line mates. He speeds like hell, cuts to the net and tries to score. He does so independently of his line mates.

Anderson isn’t a playmaker/passer, Anderson doesn’t look for open ice like Caufield does or any sniper does.

Anderson is a one trick pony IMO that may as well be played on the 4th line. I would trade him

I think Slafkovsky - Dubois - Bedard would be savage (if Slafkovsky turns out).

Slaf will turn out, he just needs to take notes from Cole and shot the puck more.  Plus with his big body needs to drive the net more looking for those rebounds. He will be fine.

There are some suggestions that the Rangers should trade Lafreniere to the Habs, but I suspect at this point it's just based on (1) him not fitting in in NY and sitting in the press box, and (2) him being French.

But is there a deal that could be made that could actually make sense for both teams? Could St-Louis rejuvenate Lafreniere? Could the Rangers be enticed by something like Hoffman (can provide some immediate scoring help for them) and a 2nd? Or would the Rangers still be looking for a first-round pick? (Not so keen on giving up either one of ours.)

I see him as Drouin 2.0 and don't want to give up a player from our new young core. Unless maybe they're willing to take Anderson then maybe. But man I just see Drouin 2.0

I was looking at an old lineup from 2011 (I don't know when during that season) and I thought: "this is before the MB rebuild, how does it compare to today?"

    * D prospects look better,

    * Top line looks better

    * bottom 6 look similar

    * Goalie situation is not great right now

    * There is hope for the future

    2011 2022

    Kostitsin - Gomez - Gionta

    Cammalleri - Plekanec - Moen

    Pouliot - Desharnais - White

    Darche - Halpern - Eller

    Hamrlink - Wisniewski

    Gill - Subban

    Mara - Sopel

    Price / (Auld)

    Caufield - Suzuki - Dach

    Slafkovsky - Drouin - Anderson

    Dadonov - Dvorak - Hoffman

    Richard - Evans - Armia

    Edmundson - Guhle

    Harris - Kovacevic

    Xhekaj - Wideman

    Allen / (Montembeault)

You are missing Pacioretty, Markov, Gorges, Lapierre, from that 2010 /11 team  this was Bob Gaineys team not Bergevin he was hired in 2012.

    Bergevin retool started in 2018

So before the retool/reset it would've been year 2017/18 rooster which was

    Drouin-Plekenec-Pacioretty

    Danault -Galchenyuk-Gallagher

    Shaw-Byron-Hemsky

    Carr-Hudon -Lenkonen

    Ex Deslauriers , LaRose

    Weber-Petry
    Alzner-Benn

    Mete-Davidson

    Ex Morrow, schlemko

    Price-Niemi

I don't think it's too early to get excited about the upcoming NHL entry draft and I get more excited every time I see Florida lose. Could the Habs have 2 lottery picks?  I won't count my chickens though as I remember St. Louis being in last place on Jan 2nd the year they won the cup.  Wouldn't it be crazy if Florida went into the tank and they were sellers at the deadline?  That would be a dream scenario.

It doesn't look like they will have a top 4 pick unless they get lucky when they draw the ping pong balls but they could have 2 picks in the 7-15 range.  Who do you like in that range as it's very likely Bedard, Fantilli, Carlson and Michkov will all be gone by then. Should they package their picks to move up and get that 1 elite player?  It should be another exciting draft for Hab fans.

If we can get a top 10 and top 15 it would be great pick the best playmaking defensemen in the draft and pick the top goaltender in the draft. Would make ths rebuild great👍

  7. For the first time in a long time (probably since our old core of Pacioretty/ Subban/ Gallagher and Price) I really liked what I saw from our young guys, and I'm really excited to see our youth.  We looked really fast out there, we just need to add a young elite goaltender to this group and they're going to be a fun group to watch over the next 10 years.

So, the option to buy streaming from the NHL in Canada is gone now. And I can't see the option to subscribe to the French broadcasts only on the Sportsnet site.

Now, Sportsnet Now Premium is on sale for the time being for $199.99 for the year. And it appears to not have regional blackouts for the Habs if you are subscribing outside the Habsland, but still "Limited blackouts apply". Small print says "All Sportsnet exclusive games are available blackout-free on SN NOW PREMIUM. If a game is on more than one network, the game is subject to regional blackouts. SN NOW PREMIUM includes all out-of-market games blackout free."

Can someone decode this? How many Habs games would this exclude? $200/year is getting to the acceptable range, given that I don't pay a monthly cable bill. :)

Get a android box or fire stick and get an iptv provider, you get everything and save money. Just make sure you have unlimited Internet and fast upload speed's.

Tough week for fans of the team who watch/listen on TSN.  Dan Robertson (who should have been on TV duty for the Habs years ago) goes to Winnipeg to become their TV broadcaster and now John Lu is off to Winnipeg as well.

Was always a fan of John Lu, was a big reason why I always liked TN. Him and Bob. Happy that he gets to go home and work in his home town. Going to miss your coverage of the habs Lu.

They could finish near the bottom because they are just not good enough but they are not outright tanking, what Chicago is doing is tanking. I think tanking is the most misused term on this board but I am just repeating myself here.

"Tanking in sports refers to the practice of intentionally fielding non-competitive teams to take advantage of league rules that benefit losing teams."

To me if you're out of the playoff picture by the all star break, your mind set as a gm should be getting the best odds at a top 10 pick. Not trying to make the playoffs, that you know you very well can't make.

Our annual fantasy hockey pool, the SK League (named after Saku Koivu), is now open. It's a points-based league with 24-man rosters and four IR spots.  We have some openings this season so if you're interested in giving the league a try, please post a note here or shoot me a PM.

If you have any questions about the pool (which is run through Yahoo), feel free to ask.

    I'm  down

  12. Thank god, now I don't have to read post of how we should sign him or trade for him.

Loved him as a habs, was sad to see him traded, but understood the trade from Bergevin point(hockey side of the trade, not ego side of the trade.)

Enjoy your retirement, see you in the second half of the season when a top team needs a puck moving Defensemen.

  13. I think we now have young depth talent everywhere but in net. This year draft I would draft the top goaltender prospect either with our 2nd 1st round pick or trade our 2nd round pick along with some of our other picks for a late 1st round pick and draft a goaltender. We could then have a nice young well rounded core to develop the next 3-4 years.
