But what if there isn't a goalie worth taking at that slot?  Reaching for a goalie to say you're the first team to take a goalie isn't worth it if there isn't one worth taking in the first round.  The top goalies picked often don't wind up being the top goalies of the draft (which is why teams hesitate to take them in the first round unless they're rated as sure-fire starters).

Having said that, I think there's a goalie that might crack the first round in Scott Ratzlaff but it's still too early to tell there.

If their isn't one worth taking with Florida's pick and they think they can get one with our 2nd round pick the do so.

With that being said I think when we do draft a goaltender it has to be in the first our 2nd round and they have to be a blue chip prospect. Not gamble on a goaltender in the 6th or 7th round.

I just wonder what the cost would be to get rid of Gallagher's contract. I cringe just thinking about the cost. He is here for a while, a long while.  My hope is that he bounces back to 20-25 goals this year and Montreal gets at least some value for the money they are paying. Gally is a proud and determined guy, I wouldn't bet against him bouncing back.

Well if Gallagher is here from at least 3 years out of the 5 left on his contract then we make him team captain.

  3. Full trade

Tkachuk (signed for 8x$9.5) for Huberdeau, Weegar, Cole Schwindt and a first

Guess Calgary giving up on USA born players because they got back all Canadian players 😹😂😂😂

With all that cap space they can add Gallagher to the team 👍

  4. Was reading Montreal doesn't want to take back salary on petry's contract which is making it hard to trade him.  Dallas was interested in petry but want Montreal to take back salary.

If that's the case hold on to him and hope he has a turn around season, then trade him at the deadline.

Does anyone think the Habs could be in on Justin Schulz as a possible stop-gap after Petry - ? I don’t know what his ask would be, but I doubt anyone is giving him a 6-year deal at big term. If we could sign him to a serviceable contract for three years, he might add a veteran RH puck-mover to give the kids some breathing room.

    Just spitballing…

I wouldn't expect anything big in terms of signing ufa's for the habs. I remember KG saying  don't aspect them to be in on any 5 star ufa's.

Also they really don't have to trade Petry right away. They could hold on to him tell the trade deadline, hoping he plays good so they can get more.
