I heard on the Blackhawks feed last night, that if CJ misses the playoffs again this year, it will be 6 straight years without making the playoffs for him,.

I assume that would be final 3 in Boston and 2 plus years in Montreal, couldnt believe that when i heard it

Knights fired GG for being tied for 7th, after making the cup finals the year before. Guess standards are different here in Montreal. When it comes to GM and Coach.

Crosby was just like Price a lottery pick, that had nothing to do with Pitt or Habs mgmt.

All teams out of playoffs try to get the #1 pick, isn't rocket science and is getting less and less predictable who gets #1.

But my whole point is if We're  looking toward the future with this organization we should be looking to a lottery pick to help that future. Not trying to just miss a playoff spot.

It's not a matter of being happy with failure. Its objective analysis of recent past. I wanted MB fired. I think I started a fire mb thread early in his tenure. In the last 2 years, he has improved greatly, and I feel that if he continues, they will be strong for years to come.

See this is my point, if we're building for the future we should be thinking lottery pick, not playoffs.

McDavid was the 4th time Edmonton had a first overall.  The first three didnt help... and Im sorry Lafreniere is no mcdavid.  Hes also no crosby or ovechkin.  Hes not at that level and no one in this draft is.  Those were super special prospects.

These type of players arent in every draft.  This is a good draft by depth and Lafreniere is the best player in it.  But hes by no means that level of generational talent.

So yeah it might have worked for those teams... but that doesnt mean all first overalls are equal... and edmonton had 3.  New jersey has two recent forst overalls and its not happening.

How many tank jobs did Boston do?

You can build a team without tanking... and there are teams that have been in the wilderness forever via tanking.  Where is Buffalo right now?

If we are totally out... great... winning doesnt help.

But we arent totally out with 35 games to go.  So i cant cheer for the team to lose.  What fun is that?

I guess your happy with the same old thing that goes on here in Montreal. I am not, we need talent and if we're not going to trade or sign UFA's for  talent then the only way to get it is by drafting in the top 5 of years when its a deep draft, not years in weak draft. I Am just tired of the same old excuses..... Oh if we didn't have all these injuries..... Oh if Price was better..... Oh we need to score more....excuses after excuse after excuse. I can't believe more people aren't tired of this. Every year we are out of the playoffs by the all star break, then what do we do in years of strong drafts we push for a playoff spot and always miss out.

All of those players should be back by the end of the month.  Win some games and go on a run.

    If it works, great.

If it doesnt, you still have given much needed high pressure experience to the kids.

The team wont be top 3 range.  The players arent going to quit and weve seen them win games with a full lineup.  So even with a trade or two, you can't truly tank when players come back.

Plus tanking is no guarantee of success.

Lol same old same old same old.

You want to know how edmonton got Mcdavid, or Pittsburgh got Crosby, or Tampa got Stamkos or Washington got Ovi?????    When these type of players are available in a draft year they try to give themselves the best odds possible to get the 1st overall pick to draft them.

This year is said to be a good draft year when picking in the top 10 of the draft.  We should be trying to end up with the 1st pick and a chance to draft Lafreniere.  The only way we can get a elite difference maker on this team.

I sometimes wonder if its hard living in the world where everything is negative and nothing is worth trying for.

Also not sure where 97 points comes from.

The final playoff spot is currently projected at 94 or 95 points (Dom Luszczyszyn of the Athletic).

That's Philly.  We are 7 points back of them right now.....

They play St. Louis and us this week  (the league's best team by points and then us)

    We play Chicago and Philly

If things go well, we could be 3 points behind Philly on Thursday night.

Lets give up though, and act like everything is awful.

It's not so negative but realistic. If we had games in hand its a different story then you can say yeah we're still in it. But we would have to put a big win streak together and still hope team's in front of us lose. Our biggest win streak has been 3 games. But it also depends on if Bergevin adds top players to this team from now and trade deadline. But if he does nothing then no playoffs.

We gave gained 4pnts on the leafs in 2 games. I am tired of hearing people say it is over. Mid season folks. RIELLY gone for 2 months. Lets see them handle a few jew injuries as our team gets healthy. Never give up. Go Habs Go!!

    35 games left = 70pts

    We have 47pts

Lets say 97 pts gets you the last wild card spot. Which means we need 50pts out of the 70pts, plus we have zero games in hand on team's we are going to have to pass. Which means we're finishing the same spot as last year, which is funny since its the same team as last year. You get what you pay for. Do I hope the habs make the playoffs yes, do I want the habs to make the playoffs yes. But at some point you need to be realistic.

If we do make the playoffs i will say nothing bad about Bergevin for all of next year.🤝

go look at past drafts, you are far from guaranteed an elite player in the 3-10 range.

there are a lot of average players in that range.

Even if they don't make the playoffs, might as well play some fun hockey down the stretch as well as giving Suzuki, Kotkaniemi, Mete, Fleury, etc.. the experience of playing in high pressure games which will be valuable to development.  As long as there is a chance, I can't cheer for the team to lose... when they are officially out of it, fine, but not now.

I am talking deep drafts not weak one's. But that's the thing though, theirs no chance. We don't have any games on hand with teams we have to pass.

If we did have games In hand i would say go for the playoff spot. But we have to come to a reality check no playoffs this year.

This team has more often than not made the playoffs since the 80s.

And even if you tank now... its less than 20% to pick 1st and less than 50 to pick top 3

1-10 you're going to get an elite player.  You don't always need the 1st overall pick unless theirs a McDavid type player. We just seem to have bad luck and end up with a top 3 pick in not so deep draft years
