  1. 4-0 USA over China after 2 periods ... Farrell part of half those goals ... impressive
  2. Fair enough ... but necessary roster changes generally are to help reverse a tailspin and win ... the issue with DD was not wins/losses but "how" the team played, or rather "didn't play".
  3. Don't know that Wideman can afford even indirect jabs given his past.
  4. Totally agree ... that makes a lot of sense ... allows for a full coach search after the season.
  5. My hope when I heard it was St-Louis, and Aaron Ward (regular guest on Melnick in the Afternoon) had the same thought on TSN690, was that long-term he was coming onboard for a management role and G&H were using this as an opportunity to have him learn about the team/players/dynamic/chemistry/etc. to inform their off-season moves ... MAYBE we will find out tomorrow. Don't mind the idea of Boucher working with St-Louis ... be it as a AC or a consultant.
  6. The Syracuse Crunch, coached by Benoit Groulx, plays in Laval tonight ... coincidence ... almost certainly ... but...
  7. I want an INTERIM coach through the end of the season ... THEN conduct a proper HC search ... perhaps they could convince Guy Carbonneau to step in "for the team" ... maybe Guy Boucher would do it with a guarantee that he gets an interview for the full-time job ... somebody with NHL coaching experience to ride herd on the team for 37 games.
  8. As has been discussed ad nausea ... some feel it is important to improve the attitude/effort of the team for the sake of the younger players and the trade value of veterans ... others feel it is best to let it crash&burn through the end of the season ... neither side will convince the other ... apparently Hughes/Gorton were in the former camp. EDIT: ... OR ... it may have been that DD refused to give what G&H thought was sufficient icetime to the youngsters despite being instructed that he should do so.
  9. Montreal Canadiens general manager Kent Hughes announced Wednesday afternoon that head coach Dominique Ducharme was relieved of his duties earlier today. "We would like to sincerely thank Dominique for his work and contributions to the Montreal Canadiens organization. At this point in the season, we felt it was in the best interest of the club to make a change," said Hughes. Since being named head coach in February 2021, Ducharme registered a 23-46-14 record in 83 regular season games at the helm of the Canadiens. In the playoffs, he posted a 13-6 record in 19 games, leading the Canadiens to their first Stanley Cup Final appearance since 1993. The status of assistant coaches Alex Burrows, Éric Gravel, Mario Leblanc, Trevor Letowski, Éric Raymond and Luke Richardson remains unchanged.  The Canadiens' next head coach will be announced later today.  Facebook Share Twitter Share Link Share Email Share So not necessarily Richardson.
  10. I don't necessarily expect to see much change in the wins/losses but hopefully the effort and cohesion will improve.
  11. TVASports website says Ducharm out and Richardson stepping in
  12. WHAT else is he going to say ... no team would offer him a contract this summer if he publicly throws a coach under the bus. Better to stick with the Crash Davis interview skills style: "We’ve got to play them one day at a time” “I’m just happy to be here. Hope I can help the tea, dfsv cxcclub" "I just want to give it my best shot, and the good Lord willing, things will work out.”
  13. Nobody is talking about trading assets of any value for a goalie of any value ... the idea is avoid encumbering another "contract slot" by claiming a goalie on waivers ... Habs currently using 48 of 50 ... trade a two-way contract with little if any future for a goalie who can contribute as much/little as Primeau ... unless some idiot is looking to get rid of a good young goalie (e.g., Philly/Carter Hart, Boston/Swayman, etc.) BTW - Primeau is 61st in Sv% out of 61 goalies with at least 10 games played ...
  14. EXACTLY They have laid out their preference for the teams' style of play longer term and have indicated that almost everybody on the team could be traded for the right offer ... not much else I would want them to say publicly.
  15. Josh Anderson agrees it was embarrassing (13 second mark) ... He is honest ... got to respect that ... he admits "it is not fun right now" (2:02) ...
  16. Primeau had an .885 Sv% coming into the game ... 7 goals on 34 shots puts it around .874 ... this IS NOT development ... they need to trade for a goalie, even if it is just a "shooter tutor" and allow Primeau to go back to Laval ... if Poulin was on an NHL deal I would say bring him up.
  17. NJDs are YOUNG ... 18 of the 29 players listed on Cap Friendly are 25 or under ... only 3 are 30 or over ... 16 of the CapFriendly list are NJD draftees ... no important UFAs amongst the 3 they have this summer ... NJDs may have 4th worst the "points percentage" in the league but it shouldn't suck to be a Devil's fan going forward.
  18. In addition to we fans who watch this shyte, I feel sorry for the RDS announcers ... they work soooooooo hard to stay positive and emphasize the finest good play ... and there is so little for them to work with most every game ... less sorry for the TVA announcers ... although they also try to be positive under the same problem infested circumstances, they (IMO) too often tend to ignore problems and gloss over bad plays ... no idea about the TSN/Sportsnet guys as I haven't watched them in years and years and years.
  19. I was thinking before the game that some would say that if the Habs: WIN, it was because the NJDs were tired after last night LOSE, it was because the NJDs got to shake the rust off last night Much like the game, so far its looking like a #2
  20. Tuesday, February 8 Morning Skate LW C RW 62 - Artturi Lehkonen 14 - Nick Suzuki 73 - Tyler Toffoli 41 - Paul Byron 71 - Jake Evans 17 - Josh Anderson 68 - Mike Hoffman 45 - Laurent Dauphin 11 - Brendan Gallagher 40 - Joel Armia 25 - Ryan Poehling 22 - Cole Caufield 55 - Michael Pezzetta 32 - Rem Pitlick 13 - Cedric Paquette 28 - Christian Dvorak LD RD G 27 - Alexander Romanov 8 - Ben Chiarot 35 - Sam Montembeault 77 - Brett Kulak 26 - Jeff Petry 30 - Cayden Primeau 43 - Kale Clague 20 - Chris Wideman Despite being cleared to play after battling an upper-body injury, Christian Dvorak didn't skate on a regular line, which suggests that he won't face New Jersey.
  21. For those who are curious, per CapFriendly 2022-23 $5,357,143 2023-24 $7,357,143 2024-25 $7,357,143 2025-26 $7,357,143 2026-27 $500,000 2027-28 $500,000 2028-29 $500,000 2029-30 $500,000 Nashville had 4 years where they paid him $14M but only the $7,857,143 AAV counted against the cap ... Habs had two years where $12M was paid but after that the pay actually dropped below the cap hit. dlbair: how is the recapture split (rough proportions)? Seems like most of it should fall to the Preds.
  22. Weber's own AAV counts against his team's cap, eating up whatever LTIR cap space would be created ... don't think the "math" works as suggested.
  23. Me too ... the only good thing about the Roy trade was the frustration of watching the Diques fans seeing "their" team win the Cup in Colorado.
