Have to admit I think of that as a Sens nickname, not a Habs nickname ... even if he is now a Hab

PLEASE not Chiarot ... with the Habs luck this season he would break his hand ...

I said it earlier in the year, but I've been impressed by Dauphin.
I don't mind him as a fourth liner going forward.
Absolutely agree ... all-heart, all-the-time

Yeah, he's not an NHL prospect. But he's great for Laval.
Perfect ECHL/AHL contract type

It may be less of a matter of Poehling playing badly, and more of Dauphin playing well (which he certainly has done).
Perhaps not badly ... but not well enough.

Why does a guy who has never been a fighter, and who has 3 concussions (at least), 2 of them that have been serious enough to be stretchered off the ice with long delays in the game, need to fight him? Shouldn't he be willing to fight Pezzetta, or Chiarot, or someone else?A transparent attempt by MS at self-preservation ...

Seems to be more sheltered minutes lately for #25.
Or a "speak no evil" coach ... Laurant Dauphin is getting more icetime since MSL decided to use him

... Sounds like a guy who doesn't want to be traded now that the change has been made ...
All well and good until something else goes wrong and he is unhappy again.
1 hour ago, Commandant said:... Personally, I'd still look to trade him for the reasons we traded Toffoli, accelerate the rebuild by getting pieces for him and by the time we are ready to compete he will be 2-3 years older.
100% agree

That Hugh-Gort really knows how to put together a roster

Really nice work by Dauphin to set him up on those.
He seems to have displaced Poehling ... suspect MSL may like his doggedness ... doesn't have Marty's talent but the work ethic looks familiar.

Right. So, if they decide that he's a keeper, they should give him four or maybe even five years. He is still young, has been consistent and not injury-prone so term is not so risky as long as the cap hit is acceptable.
Not just for next season but for the role he can reasonably be expected to be filling in years 3/4/5

Id want him locked down for 3m. Other than that i can find another bottom 6er.
I think if we overpay it has to be legit top line or top pair guys. Im tired of overpaying depth.
Depends on term ... if the rebuild/tool/set goes as hoped he would in a couple of years again be an expensive 4th liner ... just more expensive

This is turning into a part-time job for you Don

Adding someone to this role is a good step forward ... hopefully he may include some specialists as well into a skills development program ... somewhat distinct from player development ... the former being more "micro" and the latter more "macro"

He just came off a finals run where he looked like the Canadian hero of his glory days ...
He has just come off minor surgery that he has been rehabbing for multiple times longer than it should have taken to be playing again ... and he is nowhere close to playing a game ... even if he makes it back to being able to play there must now always be fear about how long that will last ... also, he is coming off four regular seasons in which he was decent once and poor to bad three times ... even if he eventually makes it back to being able to play there has to be a serious doubt about how well he will be able to perform ... it is unrealistic to look back at those seven brilliant weeks and assume that is what to expect in the future.

great! The I would ask for him and negotiate with him an AHL deal next season so that he does not use a contract slot for nothing ...
But he would still use up a contract slot this season ... if, for example, the return was Morin and Konecny the Habs would be left only with a slot to sign Harris, leaving no ability to exploit possible opportunities to take on a pending UFA contract (along with "payment") to facilitate a trade for another team, or to sign NCAA/European free agents before the 22/23 NHL "year".

Including this here because JD is out with an injury ... doesn't fit perfectly anywhere else ... congrats to Jonathan and Marie-Laurence

Agreed - he fits for Philly, but I'm not sure Philly fits for the Habs on the trade front. Atkinson and Konecny are the similar-priced contracts and nether of them are all that appealing (although Konecny is young enough to be part of that future core).
There is the oft (less than reliable) rumours of the Habs signing Letang this summer ... almost the same age (Letang tuns 35 in April versus next December) ... KL has been slightly more productive in recent years ... I am open to him replacing a traded Petry (in any trade, not just to Philly) ... but it depends entirely on the contract, especially as any deal he signs this summer will be a 35+ contract.

A few weeks ago the idea of dumping Petry for a 5th round 2021 RHD prospect and a 2023 2nd made more sense ... but with him playing better I expect H&G are hoping for more of a true "hockey trade".
