I used to have to pay $4.99/month for RDS RDS2 & TVA.

Now RDS games are blacked out here, so is 10x cost with Centreice costing $40-50/month and i have little interest in NHL games aside from Habs, so rarely watch other games.

At least this year, have rooting interest in every candian match up and may watch more of those games.

I'm with Bell tv (satellite) and just signed up for the NHL Centre Ice Package.  It's $189 for the season (4 equal payments).  So for 56 games, that works out to $3.39 / game.  I see every single game and don't have to worry about being blacked out.  I guess it's your choice but it works for me.

All this talk of Bergy potentially overpaying to add a homegrown talent to the roster is making me queasy.  This ill-advised practice already cost us a Sergachev for a Drouin 🤮

I agree.  As much as Dubois is a good player, are the Habs prepared to duplicate the Sergachev trade simply because he is from chez nous?  If that is at the forefront, trading two local boys (Danault / Drouin) would defeat the purpose.

    Pronman's  hab prospect ranking

    1. Nick Suzuki, C
    2. Jesperi Kotkaniemi, C
    3. Alexander Romanov, D
    4. Cole Caufield, RW
    5. Victor Mete, D
    6. Ryan Poehling, C
    7. Mattias Norlinder, D
    8. Jordan Harris, D
    9. Kaiden Guhle, D
    10. Cayden Primeau, G
    11. Jan Mysak, C
    12. Sean Farrell, C
    13. Josh Brook, D

Suzuki and Mete shouldn't be considered prospects.  Possibly KK as well.  Just my opinion.

  4. A good move by Bergevin.  He could be picked up by Seattle, given that he would have 2 years left on his contract at the end this coming season. This secures our defense from losing a player.   If Seattle picks another player, he provides great backup to Price for a couple more years.  If Primeau is ready, Allen would be a good trade option with 2 years left on his agreement.  All good options for us.

As far as roster players that would fit under the cap (which the Habs are already over by a little less than 500K) goes, I don't see much that Vancouver would likely be willing to part with.  Podkolzin is probably the only prospect that I would be remotely interested in, but I would want Bergevin to try and replace Gallagher on the roster.

I would hate to see us lose Gally, however, if it reached that point, I would want Podkolzin and picks.  From there, Hoffman would be a target if he is still available.

    Chiarot

    Romanov

    Edmundson

Don't see a need plus no cap

Like I had said can see him trading Byron, Weal for picks to create cap space. Kulak could be someone trade also to clear up cap.

I'm thinking that Romanov will be with the habs, although a year with Bouchard would be great for his development.  Still leaves Mete and Kulak to think about.

I know everyone has been talking about the bad year Max had last year (44 pts. in 71 games), certainly a drop off from the year before. Josh Anderson's best year was 47 pts in 82 games. I know everyone is excited that Josh is big and strong and brings grit and these are elements that Habs need on the wing but he has to stay healthy. I really hope it turns out but I am not convinced yet.

If we look at stats only, Domi wins.  However, these two are different players and would have different roles on a team.  Most people call Domi a playmaker, however, it seemed that he would want to carry the puck through the neutral zone and  he would try to go through the opposition before making a play. If he got through, yes, he would then try to use his wingers.  However, most times he would lose possession of the puck during entry and the opposition would counter attack.  He was very predictable.  And I agree with you, I hope that Anderson can stay healthy, it's an important need.

It might seem strange they drafted a dman when they desperately need scoring, but it really isnt that odd when you think about it.  Draft the best dman now with hopes of the Habs becoming the next Nashville and attempt to have the best top 4 dmen in the NHL.  Price is aging and having a very strong defense will make Prices job easier.   It will also likely make MB job easier too.  The Habs d seems to be set for years now so all he needs to do is target a 30+ goal scorer.

I think their right side (defense) might need some additional future help. Weber and Petry are in their 30's and although we have Juulsen, Fleury, Brook in the wings, another RHD would be a good thing. (Maybe a Kulak or Mete trade for a RHD)  But I also agree that another sniper would be great!

Wow thank god your not Gm. If any of our prospects are untouchable first one would be Caufield he reminds me of ZACH PARISE. Also if Jets do trade Laine it's going to be for a D.

Not sure of the Zach Parise comparison.  Zach is 5"11' and 196 lbs.  I'm assuming that you are basing your comment on similar skills?

I would really like the Habs to trade some of our 2nds and 3rd / 4th round picks to get another 1st rounder.  Whichever combination works is good with me.  We need quality picks now!  Over the last couple of years, we haven't signed all of our picks due to the 50 contract rule.  Let's not simply waste picks that can't be signed.  If we can't make a trade to move up, maybe we trade picks for future years or maybe some of our current picks help us to get that scoring winger?

I don't really recall a time when Montreal signed a player as a precursor to another deal. It seems usually such a signing ends up a few weeks later with a follow up comment of "that's it?"

Assuming the Habs sign him at, say $3.5M, unlikely as that is such a small bump from his previous salary. That means the Habs will have brought in nearly $8M in salary without shipping any out. With Domi and Mete to sign, there's not much cap space left beyond that.

I also believe that he is potentially the player who ends up with Seattle, depending on which players get protected of course.  I guess we will have to see what Edmundson brings to the table this coming season, should he get signed by the Habs.

Yeah I would think that the Jets would be pushing for Caufield along with domi and mete in any trade talk for Laine. I would pass on laine, they're some good UFA that can add depth and scoring to our line up we don't need to over pay to get laine.

I really think adding DADONOV, and  NAMESTNIKOV To our line up would add depth through out the lines plus add scoring depth through out our line ups.

I agree with what Winnipeg expect and yes Laine has had his pouting moments.  Regarding other available UFA's,  Montreal has not been very successful in attracting them and a trade might be our only option.

    Sweet Jesus, SIZE...again?

Will that dead horse ever stop getting beat.

Ya, of course dont want to add a 99pt winger...too small.

Too bad Hughes is only 170lb d-man, if he was big he would have much more than paltry 16pts in 16playoff games...disappearing act smurff!

Did you watch Gaudreau play in the playoffs?  If so, you were satisfied with his performance?  There are players who have great regular season stats and disappear in the playoffs.  As a Calgarian, I can tell you that Johnny Hockey is one of those!  Give me a Gallagher (small) any day, but not Gaudreau.

I've put some numbers beside your ideas just to make it easier to address.

    1) You don't think there are teams with younger defencemen available that would have interest in Laine?  If Winnipeg can't get a U24 top pairing defender for him, they're not going to move him.  Their cap situation isn't that bad to the point where they're going to trade what they think is a star in the making for someone that has a few good years left.  I get that they need to upgrade their defence but unless they get the perfect deal, it's not going to involve Laine.  Remember, Bryan Little's playing future is in serious jeopardy - if he's ruled out for next season over the next few months, they can use that money and go sign a d-man.  I also think you're underrating Pionk who had quite the year for them.  And Montreal's willingness to move Weber likely ranges between 0% to 0.000000000000000001%.  It ain't happening.

    2) I don't think Calgary does that deal let alone the Habs getting them to add to that.  Gallagher saves them money for next year but they lose a year of team control and a lot of points in the process.  Gallagher's a good fit for them and if both sides wanted to do something like this, I think it could be done but I think it's Montreal adding, not Calgary.

    3) Two top-line players for two lower-scoring rentals equals a terrible trade for Calgary.  They have some good young goalies in the system so while they could certainly use a short-term upgrade between the pipes, I don't see Price being appealing.  The Flames won't blatantly take a bad-value trade just to shake things up for the purposes of shaking things up.

    4) There's still a salary cap in the NHL.  This proposal adds about $8M in cap spending to Edmonton's books when they're going to have very little to spend.  Price is a goaltending upgrade but with their cap structure, they simply cannot afford him.  Also, asking for their two top defence prospects with only sending a question mark in return in Juulsen would not go over well.

    5) Edmonton parts with three of their top prospects and one of their top defencemen for two rentals (one being a third line centre on their depth chart) that they may not be able to afford to re-sign and a question mark prospect...why?  It makes them a better team next season and then sends them into another extended rebuild.  Ken Holland isn't managing for his job here; they're not that desperate to change things up.

The only comment that I want to make is that Gaudreau is 5'7, 165 lbs.  The Habs don't need another small player, especially in the playoffs where he disappears.  Give me Gallagher any day, even if his style limits his career.

  15. I have seen trade proposals for Calgary's Gaudreau for Domi +.   I live in Southern Alberta and have watched Gaudreau play since he arrived in Calgary.  He is a good little player and has the points to prove it.  However, come playoff time, he disappears.  He is small, soft and doesn't get involved.  The Habs don't need another small forward.  We need size and skill upfront, players who can take the grind of playoff hockey and contribute offensively.
