I am seriously concerned about Price. I was hoping that he would be insulated by Martins's defensive/posession game, but I am worried that he is too emotional for this game. He hides it well, but he crashes hard when he has a bad game.

Can a mod crop all the Gainey stuff and put it in JackP's fire Gainey thread? This is a runour thread, not Gainey thread.

I would take Metropolit over Begin any day. I was going to right a long response, but PMAC pretty much summed it up. We laughed when Ryder and Streit were signed. We ALL thought Streit was weak defensively and Ryder was given many chances and didn't cash in. If AK plays like he is now for the next two years, do you sign him for 4 years and 4 million? No. If he lights it up on the new team, do you hate the GM for not signing him? Well, we all will, but I don't think it's a reason to fire him. There is a theme to the way Bob Gainey does business, and a flaw which I think he needs to reassess. Bob Gainey will not tolerate players that negatively affect the culture of the team. Ribiero is a prime example. He gave him away for a bag of pucks, because he was affecting the culture in the dressing room. He should have waited. Same with Grabs. These guys are great players and should have brought more in the way of assets. SK affects the culture...down you go. It is the one thing that I wish he could solve in a better way. Ribs would be a great 1st C right now, and it really hurts to think that we are paying Gomez that money when Ribiero would probably be in the 5 million range. I think the key issue with the Gainey regime is as CC says. Player developement. Where are all the stars? First liners and top 4 Defensemen. Hopefully Price is one of them, but I am certainly not convinced. I believe he doesn't have the head for the game. Someone that I thought was a cool fish, turned out to be a scared pot head kid! My firing gage will be playoff performance. They have to make and play well in the playoffs.

Metro needs to come back too. Metro Laraque and chipchura/Pyatt. I would send Stewart down if he can't pick it up. That just leaves a huge caping hole on both sides of Plex (who I might add has been our second best forward next to Gionta!) AK, SK, Lats, Maxpac... so many options, but none of the bastards will step up. Blechh

That was our second best game of the year as a team. Calgary was the best. Bulin was awesome. Price was OK. Shoulda had the Commrie goal. I'm a little worried that he may be a little too mental for this game. I hope I'm wrong cuz the signs of a fantastic goalie are there. Gionta is awesome. He is so consistent on that puck. Paccioretty had a good game tonight. Chipchura does not look good out there. Plek needs a winger that cares. AK plays like he was sent down, not his little bro. Trade them as a package for another lunchbox top 6. I love Gio, Gomez and Cammeleri right now. They never give up. That is something I've only seen out of Koivu in the last 10 years, as far as top 6 guys on our team. I like the Weekes reference to Gionta. Something like put down your tape when you measure Gionta, because his heart is bigger than his body. Hey Martin, way to bench Mara for sticking up for his team. WTF man! That was a high hit and was deserving of that response. From a distance it looked like an elbow, and that response is EXACTLY what I want to see when a player thinks his teammate was elbowed.

I'm confused. Are you agreeing with me or arguing? I agree that the team was bad last year, but icing a full team of rookies and hoping the cap dropped would be worse. I'm saying that the decisions Gainey made were somewhat radical, but sound from a business standpoint. Trying to keep lots of cap room for next year by only offering a bunch of 1 year contracts would have devasted the team as UFAs and RFAs would have even walked. All of this, just in case the cap drops.

While I have always supported Wamsley's stance on throwing away the year in order to sign top free agents when and if the cap shrinks, do you reaaly think this is a wise management style? For the team it would have been great, IF THE CAP GOES DOWN. But Gainey would have surely been fired. While some of the high profile FAs on the team may have signed a 1 year deal, many would not have. Now Tanguay, Kovy, Komi, and a score of others are gone, and nobody replaces them. Unless the sell was amazing, (rebuild 2.0_ it would have cost Gainey his job by December. I don't defend him, but waiting and hoping that the cap shrinks is a much bigger gamble than blowing up the team and signing the best players that are willing to come over. You are right that this is the team. There is no rebuild. But if I was the manager trying to protect my job, I would not allow the FAs to walk without replacing them.

The next two games are huge for me. I'm from BC, but always cheered for the Habs. I secretly wish for the Canucks to lose every game. I like the Oilers, but I now live in Alberta, and I'm getting sick of the Oilers fans.

Well we gave the cube double what he's getting and he was pretty small. As long as his minutes are low, he should be fine.

I hope hammer shuts guys down like he did in 07/08. He seemed a lot meaner than last year. Also, if he has played right in the past, put Spacek on left D. He is our Markov replacement.
