Your point is key to all this. It was the biggest weakness last year, and it is how Martin teaches. Look at Hossa and Havlat. Both use that great skill on the backcheck as well.

2 years at 1.8 million and the C.

I've said this on a lot of posts. It is Kovy that I will miss the most. I was hoping he could retire a habs. Koivu will be missed, but I look forward to new leadership. To be honest, he is the one guy that I wanted gone. Not because of him as a player. I love the lttle warrior. But because we needa new leader. Komi: it's going to painful playing against him.

Kovalev! Find a way BOb.

As far as size goes, if the Habs stick to their own system, it shouldn't matter. Datsuk, Helm Hudler, and Filpula are all lil fellers, but when you want to hit them the puck is long gone off their stick. Passed to a teamate who is always open. I guess Helm got rocked hard a couple times in the playoffs, but you get my point. As much as seeing Komi go breaks my heart, (favourite player for the last two years) 5 million to keep a 2 goal 8 assist guy is a little insane. Gill's +- is quite good, and I was impressed with his play in Pittsburgh. He also scored 2 goals and had 8 asssists last year. It's Kovy who I'm going to miss. I understand the signing of Gomez. It hurts, but what do you do? There is nobody out there to trade for or sign, so you get who's available. Now, Gionta is a confusing one. We would rather have that little dwarf than Kovy? He will buy Martin's system. He had chemistry with Gomez. He would probably look great with Cammeleri. But 5 million for a half pint 20 goal scorer? WTF? I hope it works. I have never been loyal to too many players after leaving the Habs, but I loved Kovy. He reminds me of the 80s version of Lafleur. Especially when he get's his helmet knocked off. If this expensive experiment does not work, Gainey should be fired. I have never bashed him, but it's true.

taken from that new jersey thread "LOL AT HABS FIRST LINE Gio (5m) Gomez (7.5m) Cammalleri (6m) Average height: 5'9 This first line may be leaps and bounds better than the old one. Gio and Gomer should play well with Martin's system. It's up to Camelleri to fit in.

I am very sad to see Kovy go. Kovy and Komi, I was really hoping would be re signed
-
There goes my favourite habs for the last two years.
-
Wow. Komi did not want to sign with us obviously. I am totally pissed about this.
-
Wow. He is gonna crush our left wingers. Maybe him and BGL will go.
-
How is signing Bufalo's best defenseman for a very modest increase an Ouch? I think this is a good signing. I will hold back all judgement until I see what the 09/10 looks like. Then I will judge. Even then I may be wrong. Every person on thjis forum hated the Hammer signing. 5 months later, he was a rock, and our most reliable d man. This year, not so much. Still looks better than Dandy and Booboo at the same price.

I would sign Kovy over Koivu any day. Koivu is one of my favourite all time Habs and I love the little feller, but if he aint willing to sign short term for 3 million or less, then bye bye lil buddy. Kovy, as enigmatic as he is, is a game changer.

I couldn't agree more.
-
Wow, do you and I ever think differently! I think Tanguay snould be the first forward they sign. He was great whenever he played. Him and Lang were the two best offensive forwards on the team.
-
Francois Allaire is in TO, so we won't have his services.
-
Awesome. I'm a western canadian with grade 11 french, so I can comprehend most of what I read, but am too lazy to figure it out word for word. That IS how rumours are started.
-
Doesn`t look too impressive. Belfour and Vokoun.
-
I think Higgins and Plek are going to flourish with Martin. They are both very fast, and very good checkers in a wide open team. They should look great with him.
-
Was Schnide minus 19 WITH THE HABS, or for the full season? I know he came in with like a minus 19 or something. He seemed better than that to me. Sorry, found the answer in the very next post. I would definitely sign Schnide if the price is right. 2 to 3 million. I was laughed at for saying this before, but he was a catalyst for the team when Lang went down.

Please refer to the individual record list on the previous page.

Meh, Last time I checked, the team that scores more goals, wins. The times had something to do with it, but it's all retoric. Gretz is bar none the greatest player to lace up the skates.

Gretzky and Mario are the greatest of all time. Look at heir point per game stats. I never watched Orr play, and his footage is impressive, but I believe Gretz and Mario are THE 2 superheros of hockey. Everyone else is out of their league. Orr, Messier, Howe, Lafluer, Coffey, Bossy... are elite players. Gretzky and Mario are superheros. Bunch of records i copied and pasted. Remember back in the Martin days, the Senators post game interviews were given while the players worked out? He made them ride the bike and condition after the game. It might have been the trainer doing that, but I don't see the Sens doing that since he left. I am happy to have a system and some insulation for Carey. It's funny that this is the exact term Wamsley used several times about Tim Thomas, and it is the term used in the press conference.

How to become friends with the Pittsburgh Penguins
BCHabnut replied to jetsniper's topic in Habs & Hockey Talk
Pretty detailed stuff. My daughter's ex boyfriend is a crazy Pens fan. I will send him the link. I doubt stuff like this when I read it, and chances are this guy just has a great imagination, but it's still cool. I mean they are all young guys with two days off in a strange city, so I could see it happening. -
I agree that we can't develop another Hossa, but I could see Subaan developing into a dominant #1 Defenseman, a la Jaybo.
