Because of the new CBA, I'm pretty sure that AHL counts against waiver status. I think S Kost has like 1 or 2 pro games and he will have to pass through waivers. Dago as well. I even think Stewart is close. Chips will definitely have to. I think the only forward player that doesn't have to is Maxpac. I think he will be the swing guy unless he he wows everyone right out of their shorts. Our only D that can come up and down is Weber.

Remember Yanick's one handed goal? He used his knee for leverage and roofed a shot from in front of the net with one hand. Awesome stuff. I think it was in the playoffs.

Why does no one talk about losing these guys?
BCHabnut replied to Nilan25's topic in Habs & Hockey Talk
What worries me is signing Price and Lapierre next year, and Markov the following year. There better be money for these three guys. Lapierre will be the next captain to hoist the mug. You heard it here first. -
I think if Bob wanted to fit Saks in, he would have. He did a major purge, and unfortunately Saku was a big part of that purge. I'm going to miss the little warrior. 13 years is a lot of familiarity.

I still think that playing style is a huge influence. If I am a bang and crash defenseman who plays with an edge and takes a lot of penalties in doing so, I would rather play for a bang and crash style GM.

Would Koivu Betray the Habs and sign with Boston or Toronto
BCHabnut replied to Koivu11's topic in Habs & Hockey Talk
I would waaaaaaaaaaaay rather have Saks as a second centre than Plek. Saks Camm Kosty, Gomer Gio Lats. -
The thing is, he is doing it fast and relatively cheap. The only player he is overpaying is Komi. This Monster goalie was the best goalie in the Swedish elite league. I bet in two years, this Leafs team will be very good.
-
I think the end of season implosion was enough for Komi to want a change in scenery. Also, I think that Martin may have a lot to do with it. Martin demands discipline. I used to get frustrated at how many penalties we took against the Sens. He wants a fast, disciplined, puck posession style of hockey. Burke likes a team that is mean, in your face, dump and chase, fight it out on the boards and wear down the oponent. These are extremely different styles. Which one suits Komi? For the record, I am furious that Gainey never tried to get him an extension in January or Febuary. If Subaan turns out half as good as I'\m hoping and he does this with him, I will be calling for Gainey's head.

Very well put Colin. I will miss Koivu a great deal. It really is too bad he couldn't have been given a secondary role.
-
What a crock. He sat because someone needed to shake up the team. The more people guess stuff on forums and blogs, it becomes twisted and stated as fact.
-
Lats will be great in the top line. He's ready. I am very happy about this, because many times he has performed well only to be sent down when the top liners healed. The only problem is you break up him and Lapierre. These two guys were the heart of the habs last year. I don't know that Maxpac will be that good as a third or fourth liner. My big question is if Subaan will make the team.

Ya, not gonna happen. Loved Koivu when he was here. I don't buy any of the Koivu clique ruined our chances of maturing spoiled brat french kid ribiero crap. But he aint goin in the rafters.

Probably one of the better top 4 D in the league man. Kaberle, Schenn, Komi, and Beauchamin. Looks pretty solid to me.

What bubble? Those numbers are insane. Do you honestly believe even one of those things will happen?

I am glad that we did something about the line up after last years implosion. I am a little scared though. There were only a few differences between 07/08 and 08/09. We had major injuries. We weren't as consistent. But the biggest and most obvious difference was Boston. We beat them every game in 07/08. 16 more points and everyone is in love with the Habs. They beat us in all but one game this year. 8 less points and a highly bruised ego. Will these little fellers make the difference? I dont know. I do know that I am totally pissed at Gainey for his crap "No extensions or contract talks until the contract ends philosiphy" Komi probably would have signed , or we could have traded him mid way if it looked like a deal couldn't be done. The other thing i looked at last year was that Gainey wanted options. He didn't want to sign guys early cuz he wanted to see how they performed. So, was this meltdown last year partly due to guys being distracted about heir job? I work at an oil company, and we hire a lot of contract operators for new construction commissioning and start-up. When they were thinking about new contracts, all they did was sit at computers and try to line up new work. No work was done by them. This is very distracting. Over all, my mood is still low. But I will be cautiously optimistic knowing that our young guys are big and fast, and one small line does not make the whole team small. If the team can play a posession game and get away from dump and chase, they should be OK.

4 million per year instead of 4.5 million per year is less on a per year basis... Stop being an ass! True the overall length of the contract was longer, but I still can't believe Bob let him walk over 2-3 years. Mike is JUST entering the Prime years of his career...it's not like he was 32 or 33 years old. By the end of the contract he would have been 34-35. Think about this, 3.83 million$ for a 35 year old, or 4 million$ for a 27 year old?? Bob really fv.cked up. I want his head on a platter! Dont start jumping on Spacek before he has even played a game for the team. If yer more Komi-fan than Habs-fan maybe its time to go to a leafs board. About my earlier comment. Seems Cap Room wont be the winner of the conn smythe this year. WAY TO GO BOB, Finally using the cap room signing some impact players. Spacek was huge in the Oilers cup run. Everyone here in Northen Alberta was disapointed when he signed with Bufalo. It is really funny because Souray refused to sign with us and went to Edmonton. And now Spacek is here. I don't know if Spacek refused to sign with the Oilers. He signed on the 5th of July, so I would say they never offered him a deal.

Scuderi to the Kings. Holy what a loss. They wouldn't have one the cup without him. -
It's funny because the three guys we all talked about being captain are gone. Kovy, Higgins and Komi. I agree with the 3 A's
-
That report is dated for the 1st of july at 2:30 P:M.

Your point is key to all this. It was the biggest weakness last year, and it is how Martin teaches. Look at Hossa and Havlat. Both use that great skill on the backcheck as well.
-
2 years at 1.8 million and the C.
-
I've said this on a lot of posts. It is Kovy that I will miss the most. I was hoping he could retire a habs. Koivu will be missed, but I look forward to new leadership. To be honest, he is the one guy that I wanted gone. Not because of him as a player. I love the lttle warrior. But because we needa new leader. Komi: it's going to painful playing against him.

Kovalev! Find a way BOb.

As far as size goes, if the Habs stick to their own system, it shouldn't matter. Datsuk, Helm Hudler, and Filpula are all lil fellers, but when you want to hit them the puck is long gone off their stick. Passed to a teamate who is always open. I guess Helm got rocked hard a couple times in the playoffs, but you get my point. As much as seeing Komi go breaks my heart, (favourite player for the last two years) 5 million to keep a 2 goal 8 assist guy is a little insane. Gill's +- is quite good, and I was impressed with his play in Pittsburgh. He also scored 2 goals and had 8 asssists last year. It's Kovy who I'm going to miss. I understand the signing of Gomez. It hurts, but what do you do? There is nobody out there to trade for or sign, so you get who's available. Now, Gionta is a confusing one. We would rather have that little dwarf than Kovy? He will buy Martin's system. He had chemistry with Gomez. He would probably look great with Cammeleri. But 5 million for a half pint 20 goal scorer? WTF? I hope it works. I have never been loyal to too many players after leaving the Habs, but I loved Kovy. He reminds me of the 80s version of Lafleur. Especially when he get's his helmet knocked off. If this expensive experiment does not work, Gainey should be fired. I have never bashed him, but it's true.

taken from that new jersey thread "LOL AT HABS FIRST LINE Gio (5m) Gomez (7.5m) Cammalleri (6m) Average height: 5'9 This first line may be leaps and bounds better than the old one. Gio and Gomer should play well with Martin's system. It's up to Camelleri to fit in.
