http://www.canadiens.com/english/ (Main Story) Notice the A? Is that just for the preseason? Maybe Brisebois has been stripped of the 'A'... C - Koivu A - Rivet, Zednik, Quintal... ??? :ghg: [Edited on 2003/9/19 by TheAussiePosse]

Now, time to over-analyse the game. Was Hainsey any good tonight? Audette? Ferland? Plekanec? How about our shutting down of the opposition? 24 shots to 19 in our favour. Will the lines be similar next time? *shakes head* Well, at least most of my picks were right. Habs sound like they were solid. Even with half of our team, we went well enough. However, I'm hoping that we have more heart. Last year, we were second in the league in OTL, which one could attribute to a loss of heart at the end of the game. And while the entire first line of Boston's was resting (Samsonov-Thornton-Murray), our first line was too (Bulis-Koivu-Audette). Tomorrow, Ottawa. Lots of skating, but it'll make guys like Brisebois, Traverse and Perreault have to prove their mettle. [Edited on 2003/9/19 by TheAussiePosse]

Tough matchup against one of the oldest rivalries in the sport. Do we know which one is playing Boston? I'm guessing 'A' because (a.) It's up first, and (b.) Because we have Ward (for Morrisson) and Dwyer and Carpentier in the lineup. Also, it's the stronger defensive team , and the goalies... we'll see on the day, although I'm not all smiles with Jose's less-than-stellar play. Will the game be on radio? I'd like to listen. Got Surfer Network ready, just need CJAD coverage. :ghg: [Edited on 2003/9/18 by TheAussiePosse]

BTW, here's the link. I downloaded the Demo, and it's quite fun. ANA vs. NJ. Everything's different. http://www.easports.com/nhl2004/home.jsp :ghg:

Good to see the thread revived. NHL 2004 is very different to NHL 2003 (which, IMO, sucked. Badly). A new system focuses way more on plays, and less on dekes. Also, a General Manager System that rivals Madden. Create an expansion team, join the league, hire scouts, organize training, salary cap, etc. A whole lot more interactive. I always preferred making trades too. Now it's better than ever. I'm definitely spending the money to get it and try it out.

Does this give Higgins or Gratton a chance now? 4th line centre/LW...

Anyone notice how the latest hurricane (beginning with an 'I') is targeting south east USA, particularily North Carolina. Hurricane Isabella phooey. More like hurricane Irbe. Wreaking revenge on the team that used and abused him. Go Geddem Arturs!

Also note that both Cechmanek and Hnlinka are Czech... Maybe some companionship for Cechmanek and Modry (and Rosa and Zizka on the farm). Maybe that's what he was missing in Philadelphia... a Czech mate  Sorry, just needed to say that

New Idea for HabsWorld: "Captions!" What do you think Brisebois is saying? I'll give it a go: "Hey Bob, that's my contract you're blowing your nose one. Bob?" :contract:

2 days running... how long can he keep it up? When does camp end? When does preseason start? When do people start getting cut and assigned to teams? When does BG trade some bums? A bum? :eyes: Have fun tomorrow :ghg: [Edited on 2003/9/15 by TheAussiePosse]

Hyuk hyuk. Aw shucks, ah did it mahself... couja tell? Avatar thing's all good. It looked a little too fake bigger, but i wasn't computer literate enough to smaller it. er, make it smaller. I wonder (from reading a few other scattered reports) if Komisarek and Ward have a little rivalry going on. Reportedly they're getting a little more physical than one would normally expect at a training camp. *Insert Mission Imposible voice here* Puck - Your mission, should you choose to accept it, is...

 Great Job Puck  A few questions/ideas - Why isn't Dagenais playing with Ribeiro? It's a good sign for Ribs when he plays with the top 2 wings on the team (Perreault should get Higgins and Ward on the wings), but with all the heralded "Ribs-and-Mayonaisse" that was going on, it doesn't seem to be happening. - If I was BG, I'd try some inter squad trading (What a great idea). Move Dagenais (Red) for Sundstrom (White)? Or Balej? - I think the Blue team (3rd team) looks like this: Hossa-Koivu-Audette Plekanec-Gratton-Ryder Dwyer-Urquhart-Thinel Markov-Bouillion Rivet-Archer Flood-Cote Theodore Bergevin-Robinson - Remember, there are 30 forwards at camp. Which equals 10 lines. And seeing as each team seems to have 3 lines (9 skaters), then there are either 4 lines on the blue team, or each team has an extra forward (which would mean subbing in on the 4th line). Great job overall Puck. Keep up the good work

 That was good Now here's a challenge: Place all the players in order from best to worst (by opinion) Forwards Saku Koivu Richard Zednik Jan Bulis Yanic Perreault Donald Audette Niklas Sundstrom Mike Ribeiro Joe Juneau Chad Kilger Jason Ward Marcel Hossa Andreas Dackell Gordie Dwyer Pierre Dagenais Chris Higgins Alex Perezhogin Michael Ryder Josef Balej Tomas Plekanec Benoit Gratton Duncan Milroy Maxim Lapierre Cory Urquhart Jonathan Ferland Slyain Blouin Ben Carpentier Michael Lambert Christain Larrivee Marc-Andre Thinel Jerome Marois Defense Andrei Markov Craig Rivet Patrice Brisebois Stephane Quintal Sheldon Souray Mike Komisarek Karl Dykhuis Ron Hainsey Francois Beauchemin Francis Bouillon Andrew Archer Patrick Traverse Matt Shasby Mark Flood Jean-Phillippe Cote Brent MacLellan Phillippe Plante Steeve Villeneuve Goalies Jose Theodore Matthieu Garon Eric Fichaud J-Francois Damphousse Oliver Michaud Michael Bergevin-Robinson

I know, we have too many defencemen as it is. But looking at Spector's Quality Trade Rumors, I found this: WEBB TO RETURN TO THE ISLES? NEWSDAY: Alan Hahn reports UFA winger Steve Webb remains unsigned and while he's not seeking a large contract, doesn't know when he'll get an offer. NY Islanders GM Mike Milbury is allowing Webb to work out with his former Islanders teammates, and hinted of making a contract offer but made no guarantees. Webb's agent rejected an offer from a Western Conference club as it "wasn't a good fit" for his client, and the NY Rangers are thought to be interested. Spector's Note: This one surprises me. Webb is a hard-nosed, popular, affordable UFA who's in his late-twenties. Surely there's a team out there who could afford to sign him? Being a Canadiens fan, I'd be thrilled if Webb were signed by them. I wouldn't mind having Webb teach Komisarek a thing or two. Quintal and Rivet and Souray all help, but none of them are as good as Webb in the hitting department. However, I'm more interested in Spector being a Canadiens fan. Is there a possibility that this could prove beneficial? On another tangent, he does write 'Prince of Pucks' articles for Fox. Do you think he'd be kind enough to pass on Habs rumors before posting them himself? Oh well, training camp today. :ghg:

Man, I musta jinxed it with the "Giguere=Nabokov" post. Damn damn damn damn damn.
-
Last year, after a great season, Evgeni Nabokov opted to hold out until receiving a higher salary. The following year, he was less than stellar, and SJ suffered, eventually resulting in a youth movement. This year, after a solid year and an inspirational playoff run, Giguere can't reach an agreement with Anaheim. What are the chances of Anaheim doing something similar to SJ?

Kolzig is a good goalie, and as long as the defencemen clar the crease before he does it with a chainsaw, he'll fit right in. Unfortunately, Washington only had Klee and tWit, so he was allowed to be pushed around. This would be a very interesting trade, although I wonder who else would be involved. STL? DET? - Washington isn't trying to get more salary, so Cujo is not a possible destination. Maybe Osgood would go to Washington, Kolzig to Colorado, and Tanguay to STL? ANd then in a seperate trade Doug Weight for Cujo. Tanguay is a converted centre, so Doug Weight could be gone... Nah, I'll stick with the basics

http://www.cyberpresse.ca/actualites/artic...03,421306.shtml For French http://www.tsn.ca/nhl/news_story.asp?ID=53...251&hubName=nhl For English _____________________________________________ LAVAL, Que. (CP) - Montreal Canadiens star goalie Jose Theodore says he'll be able to concentrate on his hockey career despite the legal problems reportedly faced by close family members. ``I'm not involved, I'm just training hard to play hockey,'' Theodore said Monday at his first news conference since media reports last summer linked his father and four half-brothers with an alleged loansharking investigation. ``People talk and there have been a lot of articles written - not always truthful and not always fun - but I'm professional like everyone here. My job is to play hockey...and when I concentrate I don't think of anything else.'' Police said in July the all-star goaltender was ``currently not part of a criminal investigation.'' Media reports have said the investigation into the alleged ring is centred on his father, four half-brothers and 12 other people. But police have never confirmed the identities of the people arrested in June. The 17 suspects are scheduled to appear in court later this month. Theodore's only previous comments about the incident came in a written statement issued June 20, in which he denied any involvement in the alleged ring. ``I ask you not to pass judgment until all the facts are revealed,'' he wrote. On Monday, Theodore reiterated his plans to remain in Montreal and believes fans will support him and the team as long as they win games. ``If the team wins and I perform well, people will be happy,'' he said as the Canadiens gathered just north of Montreal for their annual golf tournament. Theodore said he continues to support his family, but refused to discuss details of the investigation. Theodore said he trained hard in the off-season and can't wait for the regular season to start. Grilled also about published photos that showed him with members of the Hells Angels, Theodore said he's more cautious now than when the photos were taken several years ago. ``These are things that come with my fame,'' he said. ``When you're young you don't have the same judgment as today. These photos were taken five to six years ago. I learn from experience. But I'm not perfect and I will make more errors in the future.'' Team officials said the situation with Theodore hasn't been easy. Owner George Gillett said he was surprised to hear about the allegations against Theodore's family. But he said he believes in the judicial process and will wait to see what really happened. The Habs' training camp opens Thursday. Invited players will undergo physical and medical examinations. The team's regular season starts Oct. 9 against the Senators in Ottawa ____________________________________________ Nothing too new, but still good to see he is OK. I hope THN is happy now (Perviously quoted as saying "Oh, to be at Theodore's first press conference". Nothing's wrong, nothing was ever wrong. Any questions?)

Glad we could find closure to this. I watched him for 2 years in Washington DC, where he came together with Jeff Halpern and Steve Konowalchuk to form a solid checking line. Unfortunately, his old age has caught up with him, but I still respect his achievements. Underrated to say the least, I wish him well in Sweden.

http://www.thefourthperiod.com/pit1.html I am real high on this guy. He was traded to the Pens last year from Phoenix (as a looming RFA), and now he's the only guy they have left to sign. He's 23, but thinking about a holdout LW, potential powerforward, Quebecois. Would fit in real well on this team. Imagine a line of Abid-Higgins-Ward in 3 years. That'd be crazy. Anyway, just a thought. On a completely different note, www.thefourthperiod.com is back up again.
