  1. No longer Wayne. Oh well, on to Hamilton... I'll play LW on a line with Higgins and Ward. No? :nono: Okay then, maybe RW with Lindsay and FA enforcer centre No? :nono: Fine, How about goalie? But I can't play goalie...
  2. What are the chances that we've overrated Ward? Will he be as great as we think he is? Right now we're rating him above Audette (some of us are anyway). If he was really that good, he would have been in the NHL a while back, wouldn't he? Hmm :eyes: If our present NHL lineup all died today (horrible thought, yes, but...), what would you do? I think we'd be kinda safe with out AHL team. And with all the salary we'd save, think of the UFAs we could Rangerize (it's in the new dictionary: "Rangerize: v. To purchase or sign with exorbitant amounts of money and promises" Hossa-Ribeiro-Ward Perezhogin-Higgins-Balej Ryder-Himelfarb-Thinel Lindsay-Staal-Czerkawski Komisarek-Hainsey Bouillion-Beauchemin Archer-Shasby Wait, goalies. OH! THAT'S RIGHT! GARON HASN'T BEEN SENT DOWN YET, HAS HE? SHEESH! WE'RE SCREWED BTW, I went to the Columbus Cottonmouth's website http://www.cottonmouths.com/bios.cfm And saw their captain, Jerome Bechard... Is this guy our property? If so, can we bring him up to play with the Habs? He looks like exactly what we need... [Edited on 2003/6/12 by TheAussiePosse]
  3. Savard did a great job of getting rid of all our potential UFAs. The best part was, most of them were driftwood anyway. Gilmour, Petrov, Hackett, Odjick... Sure, Hackett wasn't driftwood, but he wasn't doing much as backup for 3.5 million. Oh well, here's to Gainey next season. I wonder if Maggie the picks potential UFAs to be traded? Find out next time on "Habsworld: Hunting Season" Bah bah BAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH!!! :hlogo:
  4. Here are some notables that might be overlooked... ANA - Kjellberg, Olausson ATL - Kozlov, Krupp BOS - Hackett, Grosek, Moran CAL - Berube CHI - Eastwood, Simon COL - De Vries CMB - Cassels, Whitney DAL - Dahlen, Muller DET - Larionov, Woolley EDM - Cross FLA - Matteau LA - Johnson MIN - Ronning NSH - Petrov!!! NJ - Nieuwendyk, Rheaume NYR - McCarthy, Mironov OTT - Smolinski, Arvedson PHI - Lapointe, Yuskevich PHO - Pellerin, Ranheim PIT - Manderville, Pushor STL - Podein SJ - Ricci, Graves TB - Andreychuk, Laukkanen TOR - Housley VAN - Baron, May WAS - Nylander, Johansson Sure, you might not want those players, but they're available. And underrated.
  5. We thought last year would be a problem with the lines... This year is hell though. Here's my shot: Goalies: Theodore, Garon. Michaud and Tarasov in AHL Defense: Markov, Souray, Quintal, Rivet, Brisebois*, Komisarek. Traverse in AHL, Dykhuis gone (buy out before Traverse), Hainsey in AHL for call-ups, Bouillion in AHL for call-ups, Shasby in AHL, Archer in AHL, Beauchemin in AHL. * - Brisebois or replacement. Gainey might decide that Breezy is worth keeping, or that he can't get a good enough offer. I'm OK, so long as he doesn't suck next year. Left Wingers: Zednik (for the beginning anyway), Hossa, Bulis, Sundstrom, Kilger (or at C), Dwyer in AHL for callups against Big Teams. Perezhogin in AHL for callups, Ryder in AHL for callups, Blouin in AHL, Lindsay (if he stays) in AHL (but most likely is that he leaves) Centres: Koivu, Perreault, Ribeiro, Juneau, Kilger. Higgins in AHL for callups, Plekanec in AHL for callups. Perreault or Ribeiro could be traded, but only for something worthwhile. I'm actually a fan of putting Ribeiro on the 3rd line to become more defensively sound. Maybe with Bulis and Sundstrom, they could score too. Juneau needs to go, if not this year, then next as UFA. Kilger, Dwyer and McKay could be a scary line on 4th. Right Wingers: Audette, Czerkawski, Ward, McKay, Dackell. Balej in AHL for callups, Milroy in AHL, Thinel in AHL. Can Dackell be sent to the AHL? I wouldn't want to do it to him, but with the overcrowding... Here's a go at the start of the season, with no trades happening whatsoever: Forwards Czerkawski-Koivu-Audette Zednik-Ribeiro-Ward Bulis-Perreault-Sundstrom Hossa-Juneau-Dackell Dwyer-Kilger-McKay But 1st line is not defensive enough, 2nd is streaky, 3rd is OK, 4th is slow (but teaches Hossa defense), and 5th is physical, but not likely to get many games. I think that the loss of Czerkawski, Juneau, Dackell would be a start. If Czerk goes Intl., Dackell gets traded, and Juneau gets injured, it could work. However, Hossa is like Audette, in the way that he needs to be on the top 2 lines to be effective. If we work on successful parnerships (Koivu-Zednik, Bulis-Sundstrom, Ribeiro-Hossa {or Ward}, Juneau-Dackell, etc.), there might be a pattern that works. Defense: Markov-Rivet Quintal-Brisebois Souray-Komisarek 1st pairing were solid last season, and perhaps Rivet is stronger from the Canada win over the off-season. Quintal and Brisebois could work, as long as Brisebois (or his replacement) don't get scared or do stupid plays, like throwing the puck away. Souray and Komi would be good, pairing physical older D with physical younger D. I would like that very much. Dykhuis will be traded (he is too expensive for AHL). All we have left to see is what happens UFA-wise. Kilger, an RFA, could have his rights traded. Buffalo perhaps. Souray might not ever play another NHL game. Anything can happen from now to July 1 [Edited on 2003/6/12 by TheAussiePosse]
  6. 10 days and counting. BAH BAH BAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH
  7. Has anyone thought of getting Broomball nets? Or making the rinks bigger than international... and adding another player called the 'Rover'! (the first Australian to play ice hockey competitively in North America was a 'rover', and a damn good one at that. Or take away helmets... Allow bigger curves for stick blades? Take away the goalie's stick? Put Lacrosse rules in? Make a bigger puck? A smaller puck? How about an XHL? How about no Scott? :nono:
  8. I saw that coming. But just where to exactly? Boston? Calgary? Carolina? Chicago? Colorado? Philadelphia? Pittsburgh? So many goalies, so little time. July 1 can't get here soon enough
  9. AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH! AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH! AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH! AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH!!! :o :o :o :o :o :wall: :wall: OK. Breathe. Where do I start? 1.) We don't want Zherdev. We want Horton or Staal more. Trading up is an option, but not for Zherdev. And it's not like we need another NHL calibre player. 2.) Why give away perfectly good picks for a player who isn't ever wanted anyway. I think we wait until August before we get Tver. A lot of UFA signings can happen before then. And the way he's gone in NJ, would we really want him? Our defence is full as it is, and he would be the Berezin of 2 years ago, and the Czerk of last year... so :nono: 3.) Not for a 3rd... We'd be better off keeping Souray or Quintal, and keeping room for out future players. He might be a good defencemen. He'll probably pull like Hatcher and remain with the only org. he's ever known. 4.) OK, I might agree with you on that one. But it depends on us firing Green and Charon 5.) Dykhuis, Hossa and 10th rounder for Smyth and 1st rounder. Or, overpaid No.5 Defensemen, underachieving prospect and joke of a pick for goalscoring whiz and 1st rounder. Hell, maybe they'll throw in Comrie too. :guru: 6.) Breezy to TB (or CAR or WAS, or even FLA) is a good idea, but Modin... maybe not. A high pick would be nice, or one of their elite euro prospects (Svitov or Alexeev). 7.) See #6 8.) Trade Audette and Czerk for a pick. Both, combined, to NYR, for a 4th rounder. They can keep the change too. :king: No, Breezy to Toronto or the SE conference. Perreault to ANA if Oates retires, Dackell to Calgary, Traverse to Hamilton, Dykhuis to Carolina or Chicago, Hossa to LA, Juneau to the Mexico City Expansion team, and McKay to NJ. :ghg: [Edited on 2003/6/12 by puck7x]
  10. C'mon Dogs... The last hockey of the season I would like to use a famous quote, using well-worn humor from several centuries ago. "You can Do It!!!" -The Waterboy Score predictions? 3-2 Dogs in OT Hainsey assisting GWG. Ward and Gratton figuring in at least 1 of the 3. Conklin saving over 35 (again)
  11. I think we should start to focus on the 2nd round as well. Remember, this draft is deep in prospects, not deep in top end talent. That's next year's draft. A few names that I would enjoy following as they journey to the habs's lineup in 2-3 years: Forwards Ryan Stone Jeremy Collinton M.A. Bernier (if only for the name if we don't get the 1st Bernier) John Hennessy Defensemen Michael Barinka Shawn Belle Paul Bissonette Alex Sulzer I think 1 of each would be good. However, it does depend on the first round pick (s). If we draft a physical defencemen (Phaneuf), a gritty forward (Getzlaf), or a scoring forward (Parise), then we draft 2 of the others in with the remaining picks. However, we do have 3 picks in the 2nd round (our own, the SJ Shark's {I think} and Philadelphia's {For sure}). If we do get an extra pick somewhere, I hope we use it well. We'll have at least one good body in a few years time. BTW, Do we really need centres? Ribeiro is just coming into his own, and unless he's traded to another team with some baggage for a first rounder or something similar, I'd be content to leave him on L2. or even L3 if Perreault's on his hot streak. I can't wait for 2004-2005 :hlogo:
  12. I'm sorry, my Wayne Gretkzy title could stay no longer. The previous post, my friends, was officially the worst post on this board to date. un_habitant, I hope you will take back your offensive words. You do not realise how much they mean to the world. You say: You must be aware that they were created after the successful movie made by Disney. That is probably the basis of your argument, that they are a "joke team" There is a large chance that you have grown up, or are growing up in North America. If that is so, it is most probable that you missed the effects of that movie on icehockey, both in North America and in the world. There are no actual figures, but there are some reports that estimate an almost 300% increase of hockey registrars outside of North America, and about 150% in North America. This was in the year following that movie. While the team was created from the movie, it has had certifiable stars on its team. It made the Stanley Cup Finals, and was narrowly beaten by a strong NJ team. But both the movie, and now the team, have and continue to inspire people all around the world to play ice hockey. While ice hockey registrars decreased in Iceland after the "Mighty Ducks 2" movie, they continued to rise, though not as much as in the first year. Even "Mighty Ducks 3", a waste of a movie if ever I saw one, put a little more life into non-hockey countries, if only to push the wagon just that little bit harder. You are very fortunate to grow up in a hockey environment (assuming you are in northern North America). But around the world, we struggle to get people just to come watch pro-hockey games. So I hope that, with your new understanding of the importance of hockey movies, particularly immature, kid-oriented ones, to the future of this sport, you can revel in the glory brought to ice hockey by the movies. I just hope you pray to your "good ######ing lord" that we don't have a new movie called: "Mighty Ducks 4: Relocation to Mexico City!" [Edited on 2003/6/11 by TheAussiePosse]
  13. 99 posts baby!!! I just hope that no-one posts anything too risque or provoking, because I want to keep this accomplishment for a while. So tone it down a little. Or maybe I'll make a new Logon, just to post for the time being. So many options, so little time
  14. I want a recount. I was sure that my pick of devils in 7 was correct, and jiggy as MVP. http://www.habsworld.net/forum/viewthread....81&page=#pid420 Jeez, Puck, you'd think you'd have learned to check the answers by now..
  15. http://espn.go.com/nhl/news/2003/0609/1565769.html damn, oh well. maybe they'l get mike danton too.
  16. I'm just writing this to get to 99 posts (3 to go i think). maybe have a weekly poll up the top. like this week could be "who will win game7" and then "which of these 5 playes will go first overall" etc.
  17. It's worse in Australia. We have a leader who everyone hates, and who has lied more time than Bill Clinton. About introducing taxes, sending troops to war, etc. He says that he told the truth. However, his truth was told to him by the USA, so even if they're wrong, he's still innocent because he was 'tricked'. sickening. I'm not much of a political speculator, but I hope that the US smartens up (the leaders more than the people). Maybe North Korea will have to do something drastic for that to happen. i'm not necessarily supporting a war, but if that's what it takes to straighten up the world...
  18. What's Czerkawski doing missing from the list? He is still trade bait. He hasn't left for Europe yet. I still count him as part of the team. I wonder if he'll get another chance at training camp. I think we need to get another RD prospect. We don't have enough, especially with Brisebois leaving. Rivet, Quintal and Hainsey aren't enough, compared to our 8 LDs. Juneau will leave next year as a UFA, because I don't see us moving him successfully this year. Boston wouldn't want him back, neither would the Caps. He's too expensive for Buffalo, Ottawa's full up at centre, and Phoenix... Nah, not in Gretzky's plans. Dackell will go cheap. I wonder if Calgary will take him... McKay, well, we'll see what he does this coming season. If he realizes he needs to pick up the pace, and he does, then maybe we'll resign him. I don't necessarily want to, but, again, we'll see how he does in camp. Perreault and Brisebois are trade bait. Let's hope we do something with them over the summer. And who likes the line Hossa-Ribeiro-Ward? I think 2nd line would do well with them
  19. Dogs win or I become a Rangers fan. I mean it :ghg: (Please, pleeeeeeeeeeeease don't make me become a Ranger's fan)
  20. I doubt Biron to Boston. You saw how the Hackett to Boston didn't work out. Another trade within the division would definitely not work. Maybe Osgood to Boston? There's an idea... And the Isles will only grab another goalie if Snow leaves. Which he won't. Kolzig and Khabibulin will stay with their teams. Canes might pick up another goalie, just in case Weekes blows. DesRochers won't be able to handle backup yet. And watch for the Blues to trade one of Osgood and Johnson. CMB has Brathwaite now, not Labbe. Av's will get another goalie, like Turco and Tugnutt last summer. CAL will try for another goalie as soon as possible. Johnson? another CAL-STL goalie trade? With maybe a D-prospect in tow? Turek won't go back though Burke will go to PHI, COL, STL or BOS. Which is a pretty safe guess. OOH, wait. Carolina? Back to Hartford? It could work
  21. Make a forum for polls. One that you go to to vote on a poll or two. Y"know "Will the Habs win 10 straight" or "Is Jose a god after shutting out 5 straight teams?" etc. affable?
  22. I'm happy with Rivet's performance at the WJC, but you have to remember a few things: a.) Competition wasn't NHL level b.) He had no expectations. On MTL, he'll be top 3 D c.) The goalie was strong, and the forwards backchecked better. I want Rivet to be incredible too. But I'm worried he'll be like Jose when he won the Vezina: Next season he's back, he sucks. All i'm saying is "don't get your hopes up". he was never incredible, and if he ever gets back to his rookie ways, i'll be happy. surpass that, and i'll buy season tickets myself (btw, i can't buy season tickets, so there's my vote of confidence). Anyway, I think the way for him to get back to incredibleness is to lay out someone like Stevens or Worrell or Pronger. Just a complete and utter annihalation (they player will come back in a week or so). That will get his confidence up, and he'll play like he is capable of playing. Meanwhile, Traverse will bring fresh towlettes in between periods. :/)
  23. I will personally go to Hamilton and throttle the goalies. Then I will go to Andre Savard and strangle him with a chain (Gainey's ready to take over, we'll just put Madden in AS's place) Then I will go to PB, and slap him around for a good 5 minutes (just for fun). And then and and C'mon Dogs...
  24. I see Colorado picking up a 2-3 mil. goalie just in case Aebischer can't handle it. but hey, he might be next year's Turco. And STL has Osgood for a full season (that will help), Johnson to be like Boucher in PHO, and get 20-30 games (injury & rest), and Divis to fill in the rest. Ooh, that's interesting. Maybe Osgood will stay, but Johnson is traded to Philly. Remember when Cechmanek, Nabokov and Johson were all doing really well 2 years ago. i had at least one of those three on every team (and all three on another too. i was up to 37th overall in Yahoo one week... then it went downhill from there. ) Anyway, here's my take: Montreal-Theodore Toronto-Belfour Boston-Shields* Buffalo-Biron** Ottawa-Lalime Philly-Hackett*** NYR-Dunham Devils-Brodeur Pens-Aubin**** Isles-DiPietro Canes-Potvin***** TB-Khabibulin Florida-Luongo Caps-Kolzig Thrashers-Dafoe Wings-Cujo Blues-Osgood Hawks-Thibault Nashville- Vokoun Columbus-Denis Avs-Aebisher****** Nucks-Cloutier Wild-Manny/Rolo Oilers-Salo Flames-Turek? ******* Dallas-Turco Ducks-Jiggy LA-Cechmanek Yotes-Burke Sharks- Nabokov * - They'll let Shields try again, but Raycroft will get a look in. Maybe a trade with Buffalo for Miller ** - Until proven otherwise. Miller and Noronen will also get chances *** - Hackett is going Philly IMO. and he'll do just like Checker. Great Reg. season, suck all in the playoffs **** - Hedberg and Aubin will vie for the position, but I think Aubin can hold it if he gets a bit luckier than before. maybe soime more help on Defense. And Hedberg might get a chance in Carolina ***** - Potvin to Canes to be with Francis and Brindamour ****** - Aebischer will be like Turco this year. Or they'll aquire Burke for a playoff run ******* - Here's a crazy idea: Johnson to Canes for Bruno St. Jacques and a 7th rounder. It's just crazy enough to work... or maybe we trade for Bruno? i'd like that
  25. how bout ribs and 10th for next year's #1 and draft ovechkin. 2x better than zherdev IMO remember, this year's draft is deep, which means the more picks, the better. next year will be special, but only for low picks. sooooooo... trade up next year, but trade full stop this year. quantity, not quality
