  1. I think I agree about the 3rd or 4th line role for Plex, and also with whoever said they saw him as trade bait. I think Plex is one of those players who's a jack of most trades, but in the role he's in right now with the team, I don't really think it's a matter of being more patient with him, I just don't think he has the skillset to play with these two... I'd be tempted to try Bonk on that line and push Plex into the third line centre role, although at the same time, the third line is golden, why break them up, right??? Maybe just try this switch up for a game or two and see what happens? I mean, remember, Bonk had all his high-scoring seasons in Ottawa playing with offensive linemates. He'd fit there, and if it didn't work, just switch it back. I know a lot of ppl want to see Higgins on the 2nd line. That would be my second option after trying Bonk there first, for all the reasons we've all seen in other threads: higgins is a better winger than centre, etc, etc. I also want to see the first line gelling with Higgins Koivu Ryder again and I think they need a few more games to get totally re-acquainted (not that they haven't played well since he returned from the injury, just that they haven't been totally dominant like they can be).
  2. I agree completely lazy26. Sometimes the "over cheering" just gets the other team riled up and it's not a good idea. I do wish the first line would be a bit more dominant though... I really want a big game from Higgins, not that he's been bad or anything, but I'd like it if they really lit it up. I guess I'm just used to disappointment from the second line, so I'm not expecting a lot in the way of points from them...
  3. now we're whiners :?- It's just an opinion. Please chill
  4. Thank you Smon, exactly what I was going to say. Not a big fan of the fighting myself, and frankly, one of Downey and Ivanans is MORE than enough for me. This is also why I changed my vote to keeping Murray over Downey on the other thread. It's a matter of that - WHEN Murray's playing like he can - he's a much better player, while Downey's essentially a fighter (albeit with a big heart, but a fighter all the same) and thankfully, that part of the game is on its way out, so we shouldn't need a lot of it.
  5. So true. I think the thing with Kovy is you either accept him as he is, or you just try not to have him on your team, but there's no changing him... too late, and he's very good at what he does, just that it's frustrating since you know he could be SO much better... Seriously though, wouldn't you rather have the "attitude" problem of Kovy over the "attitude" problem of Micky Ribs? I know I would. The team's really improved and this is just another indication.
  6. you saw him? LOL!! That's right, put him on the first line! Never mind Higgins OR Latendresse OR Ryder. THIS is the right winger for that line!
  7. You really think? I was watching on and off all night and I thought we played pretty well. We didn't blow them out, but not every game will be a blow-out...
  8. Wow! Even our non-sellouts are over 20 000. My family pointed out that sellouts are based on tickets sold, and since scalpers probably buy a whole bunch, does anyone have a clue how many of the "scalped" tickets get bought? Are we really 100% capacity EVERY game? Or we just sell them out to the scalpers? (which is still a pretty big feat, and I guess the scalpers wouldn't keep buying if they couldn't turn around and sell them, but still, just out of curiosity...)
  9. I'm really hoping you're right, and I suspect it's true. Not that I want to change around the whole team in the off season; the "building from within" system is just starting to pay huge dividends, but still, it would be to our advantage if Habs Management was in a position to choose who they wanted to sign and be selective with UFA's, instead of chasing UFA's and being unable to attract anyone.
  10. http://www.habsinsideout.com/boone/2006/12...number_one.html A post on the gazette's habs blog by Mike Boone (this guy is awesome) about how important it is to sign Marky... Gotta say i agree with him...
  11. Agree with you... There might be answers to all of these, but they're not immediately obvious. Team probably will wait for Gainey if the decision is not as simple as waive Murray / Downey, call up Lapierre.
  12. You know, I hope you're right, but what about the "non-hands" related aspects of Kovy's game. I mean, he's much bigger than Sammy, and I think that would make a big difference in the ability to pull off the moves he pulls off. Anyway, I'm willing to be patient; the line is looking better lately.
  13. No, I haven't. I think you misunderstood me. Downey's never complained about being benched, but I was just saying that I don't believe Murray has either, and I thought it was worth pointing out because it had already been said that Downey never complains.
  14. Good point, but there are some guys on that list I would NOT consider "depth" players. Don't trade Johsnon or Perezhogin. No way!
  15. This thing is just too much! Hilarious though. I was expecting to see plays, not hear them.
  16. The article about him and the potatoes was SOOOOOOO funny. Something tells me this 'staying close to your roots' (lol, sorry for the pun) does not exist among other athletes (non-hockey).
  17. In that case, I suspect Gauthier figures they need to save A LOT of money for their potential rent-a-player. Remember, if a goalie goes down and we have to trade for another one at the deadline, that'll cost big; if not, he could be saving it for other reasons they're not quite willing to share with us yet Trade, big signing... Poor Lapierre was at the bottom of the food chain and suffered the consequences...
  18. It's so hard to tell WHAT'S going to happen since we have such a combination of promising young prospects, great RFA's who deserve a raise, (potentially) under-performing UFAs (Niniimaa, Kovy), and Over-Perfrorming UFA's (Souray, Markov). I think next year, the core of the team will be intact, but a lot of things will be different.
  19. I guess you don't mind potentially losing him then? For me, I'd miss Downey less than Murray.
  20. I actually want to change my vote. I voted to keep Downey, but now I think I'd rather keep Murray. I know he's had a bad season, but honestly he's a better player, not so one dimensional WHEN he can play. and I don't think he complains about being benched, so that can't be used against him.
  21. I agree with you, I was just trying to avoid what someone posted on another thread (can't remember who) where they had a third line of Milroy-Kostitsyn-Lapierre, or something like that.... I think we've got a really good group of young talent that will keep us in a good position for many years, but what I wouldn't want is just tossing them all in there with no previous experience / leadership, and not a lot of players to look up to on our own team. As the core of the team gets younger, players like Koivu, Souray, Rivet, Johnson, Bonk, Begin, etc. guys with years of NHL experience, will be all the more important to teach the younger players all aspects of the game, not just on the ice, but how to handle the highs and lows, slumps, media intensity... I'm not saying keep all of them at all. I'm just saying, leaders are important, and while I LOVE both Komisarek and Higgins, they'd need more years in the league to be leaders. Right now, they're future leaders for the upcoming kids, but let's not dump ALL our vets...
