on habsinsideout.com it mentions that 'as per club policy the terms of the deal were not disclosed'. Does anybody know why this only applies to certain players? the dollar figures of most contracts are announced to the media.

according to nhlscap.com and nhlnumbers.com the habs are 8.6 million under the cap. did you subtract chipchura's salary? if you did then your number makes sense

Gorges should get the most money out of our RFAs based on his 2 years of full time nhl experience...i see him making between 1 - 1.5 milllion. Obyrne and halak should come very cheap since they both have had less than 1 year in the league. I expect halak to make between 750,000 - 1 mil and obyrne should make close to his qualifying offer. Im pretty sure chipchura's salary is already added to the cap (nhlscap.com) therefore by replacing one of our 4th liners with chipchura we save cap space.

signing sundin at 8 million and dropping dandy and begin leaves us with approximately 4.15 mil to sign our 3 rfas and a spare D. I usually go to nhlscap.com for the numbers. Wiggle room is only important if the team is looking to add someone at the trade deadline. When a player gets injured his salary that he would have made for the games he missed gets deducted from the cap while the replacement player's salary gets added. Injuries could actually save cap space for teams. However im not sure if this applies to all injuries or only if the player is placed on the IR.

your almost saying the exact things I was in my initial post. I said that the habs would have to dump 2 players and sign a cheaper 7th D (maybe brisebois) in order to have the money to sign sundin...so I really dont know why your being so critical. Im just saying that if gainey really wants sundin, it might be possible with a couple of player moves and if sundin is willing to sign for somewhere between 7 and 8 million. Gainey offered sundin close to eight million prior to the vancouver offer....If gainey thinks its possible then im pretty sure its possible. obyrne georges and halak shouldnt cost more then 4 million...and I think they will only sign a 7th D if dandenault is moved.

I keep hearing so many ppl talk about trading halak for other assets and I strongly disagree every time. Even though price is considered our number one goalie and is expected to have a glorious career...he still hasnt proven he could consistently handle the number one role this early in his career. Halak has a lot of potential and could step in if price has one of his cold streaks. Other than halak there isnt any goalie capable of stepping up (Denis isnt nearly as good as halak). Other than that, having a strong backup also takes some of the pressure off price.

I really think gainey is willing to wait for sundin even if he waits until september to make a decision. in his press conference gainey seemed satisfied with his current 4 centers so I dont think he'll sign anyone unless its sundin, primarily because he is the only UFA centre that would help our team. If they do sign sundin, he will be the 23rd player on the roster which is the limit. But I really don't think they need to carry 3 spare players on the team. i think gainey will try to move dandy and then sign brisebois for 700,00k (because gainey mentioned that he wants 7 defencemen)....that would save a million dollars. He should also try to trade or waive begin or kostop (even though I really like those guys) to save another million. That would leave us with 9 million for sundin. I think sundin would sign with us for 8 or 9 million...we have much more to offer than vancouver besides that extra million dolllars.

I don't like this trade very much. Grabovski has been showing steady improvement last year especially when he came back from injury and was scoring 2 points per game with hamilton. I thought he could have been a good replacement on the top 2 lines if plex or koivu got injured. Were looking a little bit thin at centre right now. Hopefully gainey is planning on signing another centre...if not sundin then maybe a good shutdown guy for the 3rd line. Chipchura could also be promoted however id feel more comfortable starting him on the 4th line.

I don't think its very realistic to suggest that AK46 will get 50+ goals next year. Only 3 players in the league got 50 goals last season which is more than in previous years. It'll be a great season for him if he gets 30-35. these are the lines i'd like to see (if we dont get any new players): tanguay-plekanec-kovalev a.kost-koivu-s-kost higgins-grabovski-lats lapierre-chipchura-kostop spares: begin, dandanealt we can still have 3 offensive lines if we dont sign sundin. I think grabovski will be ready for the nhl next season and has a lot of potential. Obviously we'd be much better off with sundin and I really hope they sign him however I still think we'll have one of the top offensive teams in th league without him.

Im not worried about our forward depth. I think we have plenty of skilled forwards that we could afford a couple of injuries as long as they're not season ending injuries. Im more concerned with our depth at defence. I think if markov komi or hammer get injured we may be in trouble.

Hey guys, Im a habs fan living in toronto. does anybody know if the game will be brodcasted online on rds.ca? They announced in august that they will be brodcasting the games online but when I go to the website I don't see it advertised.
