  1. We need to hire Knuckles as another assistant behind the bench and reunite one of the best defensive trios in the game ever: Gainey - Carbo - Nilan. Pull in Robinson to hip check everyone into line, and it's all good, baby, it's all good.
  2. For weeks and weeks it's become more and more obvious that Julien was unable to handle the team appropriately. The kids were completely misused and some of the underperforming vets (Ribs) were way overused. There's no doubt Julien was not able to translate his minor league successes to the major leagues. It's unfortunate, because he did have some strong ideas, however his game plan did not work. That said, I wonder how long ago this decision was made, and I wonder if this was done now because of an inability to get a trade done to Gainey's satisfaction - Aucoin or Souray's injury, for instance. If you can't change the chemistry of the team from without (other players), then change it from within until you can achieve those trades which you desire. Still, I think this decision was inevitable, though Gainey was patient enough to allow Julien as much time as possible to turn things around. Losing Rick Green is an obvious choice as well. The addition of Carbo is both interesting and somewhat predictable, though I have some questions regarding Dougie Jarvis. There's going to be some interesting fallout when Gainey comes to finding the coach he desires, as Carbo has been tagged as a potential head coach for a while, but you get the feeling that Jarvis has been hand-picked by Gainey from within the organization to go far in a coaching capacity. The big question now, of course, is that of personnel. Does Gainey continue the shuffle and make some trades, or does he pull back from that route temporarily to get a more personal handle on the state of the players.
  3. That was fun to write. (It is a JOKE, by the way...)
  4. What's fascinating about that comment is that that's exactly what Bonk was brought in to be - a third liner. So, for him to be performing as such... well, shocking. As for his pass that *cost us the game*, that's a load of bull. It cost us a goal, and every single player on every single team makes mistakes like that every year. Since the microscope is on him, however, some tend to be going overboard. Why don't you ask the attackers why they couldn't put the puck in the net - like perhaps Sunny, who was staring at mesh only since Aebischer was apparently going for popcorn, and he missed the cage. We are not losing from individual plays, that's impossible in hockey. You lose as a team. Bonk made a mistake, yes, but Huet made the first save. Where was the defence to clear the puck? Why was Bonk forced to make a cross-ice pass when the other forwards could have made things easier for him rather than doing their usual and streaking away scared from their own end? It was one mistake, and he played a solid game other than that. Seriously, I know he's overpaid for what he's bringing to the table, but at least he gives a damn. When it happened, did you happen to catch his face on the way to the bench? No amount of us getting on his back will *ever* come close to how he's getting on himself for that play. Now, ask the same thing of some of the other players - you know, the ones who are in this seeminly for the paycheck, and hardly put in any effort at all. Zednik, Kovalev, Ribeiro for starters. If even ONE of them had had a good game, I think we win. But they all sucked the shingles off the arena with their play.

Squads. Sounds like Team Fortress Classic, the mod for Half Life that was out of this world. Interesting. Very interesting.
  6. Thought I'd pop this in here; seems like the proper area. http://www.denverpost.com/avalanche/ci_3390500
  7. Just a copy/paste from another thread. For the fun of it all. Bold prediction: Huet is the number one guy for the rest of the season. (won't happen, but it's fun to make bold predictions every once in a while...) Theo's next game will be on the 14th of January against Philedelphia, in Philly. He will be wearing the white uniform of the Colorado Avalanche. The reason he's sitting out this Wed is because a deal is done and won't be announced until after the game - the Avs didn't want him injured (or to play against him) before they acquired him. Look to see who's sitting for the Avs that night as well! Continuing the bold prediction, Theo will be joined by Zednik and Ribeiro, and in return the Habs will get Tanguay, Liles, and Laperriere. And now back to your regularly scheduled life - where bold predictions never come true.

  9. Interesting. Perhaps improving from within by subtraction? Maybe the thought is that, without his girlfriend on the parent club, Ribs might just buckle down and start performing? Or is this the beginning of a minor personnel shuffle? Perhaps this is one of those calculated moves - send him to the minors, then call him up where he can be plucked for half the price. Sure, we're on the hook for half his salary, but he'd be off the team that way - and if Gainey couldn't find a buyer (much like with Hainsey), perhaps this is a secondary method to remove unwanted clutter. Interesting move. Most interesting.
  10. Anyone else feel that Huet looks a lot like Jeff Hackett? I'd be happy with him tending the goal while Danis and Price work their way to the NHL. If Theo goes to Vancouver, there would *have* to be a big name coming back - lest ye all forget the salary cap. Vancouver can't just swallow Theo's $$$. Whether it happens or not, who knows. Just pointing out that little overlooked logistical piece of info.
  11. See, now I know it's a dream, because my fantasy of Fozzy Bear in a cop outfit (rawrrrr) just spoke to me.
  12. I'd like to point out that, even with talented wingers, Ribeiro was still useless. I would like to point out that Zednik still can't pass to save his life. I would like to point out that we (finally) have some good trading power since there are still teams out there that think Theo can do well. I'd be quite happy to go with Huet (who reminds me a lot of Hackett - and buries his rebounds (can he teach that to Theo?)) and Danis as backup and bring in a high quality defender or attacker for Theo. I'd like to point out all these things, but I can't. You see, I'm in this eerie dream where the Habs just shut down the Sens 4-1. Odd eh?
  13. Two questions: 1. How do these fantasy leagues work? Never been in one... 2. How the hell come he didn't win bonus points for sexing up on a boat!!!
  14. WHO MOVED?!?!?!? (Superstitious? Who's superstitious?)
  15. I'm not usually a game thread poster but... Will the real Montreal Canadiens please stand up, please stand up, please stand up? We have a few requirements: 1. I'm not sure if this is needed before every game, or before every period, but someone has to go for Kovalev's knee and get him mad. I don't care that he hasn't really been 'flying' per se, but he's intimidting the hell out of the Sens because he's playing mean - and when a big superstar plays mean, anything can happen. We need fan volunteers to jump into the hallway leading to the dressing room, if necessary, to try and knee him ourselves, if that's what it has to come to. 2. Julien must be knocked in the head. Think of this as the same type of thing you threaten kids with when they make faces at you. You know, be careful or your face will stay that way? If we hit him in the head, maybe he won't go back to the same old lines. So, someone quick, HIT HIM! 3. We need to provoke an opponent into attempting to injure (unsuccessfully, of COURSE) a popular habs player each game so that we can get the fans roaring and the players feisty. When Markov has to come over and push Souray aside at the end of a period (you just know the media is going to blow that one out of proportion) to stop the big 44 from dropping to Neal's level, then we have guys on their toes and playing hard. 4. All games must be changed to the afternoon. If that means that stores are closed in Montreal during the day, and all work shifts are from 7 at night until early in the morning, well that's just the way it has to be. Might as well get used to it. 5. Everyone has to do EXACTLY what they were doing this first period. The fans, I mean. Go back to doing EXACTLY what you were doing. Remember your clothes, remember what you had in your hands, remember what you ate and drank and at what time you did it. If anyone deviates, hit them hard. 6. We must all try not to wake up.
  16. I dunno why everyone thinks Eklund is full of it. I'll bet about 90% of his trade rumours have some basis in fact - GM's are *always* talking (it's their job), and I'm sure plenty of those conversations go from the casual to the semi-serious. But in this day and age, it's only the very special trade that is actually consummated. Eklund talks to people in the industry, probably has some pretty good connections, and hears things that you and I don't hear. If he says that two teams are talking about trades, then I bet two teams are talking. Maybe it's not serious, maybe they're even *using* him to mislead the public in some ways, but I'm sure he's not making things up. So, my guess is that he heard that Montreal was talking about Theodore - and the source he got the info from was fairly sure that it was more serious talk. Or the source could be using Eklund, or throwing him off the scent of the real trade, but I'd bet a fair bit that Eklund is reporting only what he knows. Sure, take what he says with a grain of salt, but also with a little less disdain.
  17. Brodeur has to say that publically no matter what. He's a team guy, always has been. I'm not saying a trade will take place, only pointing out that Brodeur isn't going to say anything but what he said.
  18. The poster was polite regarding Koivu - said he was a good captain and he has done a solid job for the Canadiens. Then, with the next sentence he stated the name of who he things should take over as captain of the Montreal Canadiens as of the beginning of next season. I'm not kidding here. Really, I'm not. Hold yer breath for this one. Actually, you'd all better siddown. Pierre Dagenais. Have you revived after fainting? Yes, the poster feels that Dagenais has what it takes both to become a 50-goal scorer in the NHL and to be captain of the Habs. Time to cry.
  19. Kovalev has been garbage. No jump, no extra effort. When he loses the puck, his shoulders slump and he drags his ass back. When a teammate screws up, his shoulders slump, and he drags his ass back. Zednik was better tonight, though he needs to remember this is a team game. How many times did he take the puck into the zone and not do anything with it until someone took it off him? Kosty is at the same point that Perez was at earlier in the season. Confidence high, buzzing on the ice - anyone remember that? Which means he's due to sit on the end of the bench for a while. Can someone find my eyes? I think they rolled right out of my head that time. Finally - can someone please explain to our defence the idea behind defence? Thanks. Much appreciated. Oh, afterthought. Theopendoor? Down too early, not challenging shooters, oversliding. Basically an AHL goalie at this point. His confidence is in the basement, and even when it's up there, he's still not doing well. Sadly, his trade value is about as low. Oh Garon, where art thou?
  20. Tough choice. You have the Liberals lead by a slimey twit who has proved only that he's really not able to take the step from Finance Minister, where he was incredible, to Prime Minister. In NHL parlance, he's an AHLer and not ready for the big show. His party is buying votes by opening the vault, and if they get a majority, they'll close the vault again and be fiscally responsible after promising to spend but 'suddenly' realizing in a few months that Canada needs to trim the fat to pay off the debt. Then you have the Conservatives led by an American wannabe who is giving every indication of fiscal responsibility, but the undertones that are offered in his ideals seem to indicate a willingness to spend like Brian Mulroney. He wants to cut the GST - that which was brought in to pay off Canada's debt and which is now only paying the interest on said debt - and that will inevitably put us further in the hole. He wants to improve education and health care, but gives the impressing that the money for that will come out of thin air. Ah, the NDP. If we were to travel that route we'd be utterly socialist, which isn't necessarily a bad thing, but we'd be so far in debt, the International Banks would be putting us on the watch list and we'd hear things about Canada flirting with bankrupcy - something we haven't heard since the Mulroney years. Health care would be for everyone, education would be wonderful, university students might not take entire lives (if that) to get out of debt, but again, one has to wonder how he's going to find all this currency. The Bloq is a statement, but at least they're big enough to make some kind of inpact on current politics. As far as I'm concerned, though, they Bloq is the most deceptive party out there. They tried to buy votes by enticing non-political, Quebec hockey fans to give them their vote when they gave this idea about the Quebec team in the Olympics, etc. If that isn't the most blatant vote-buying technique, then I don't know what is. If you believe in Quebec separating (not getting into that here), then this is your vote. If not, vote for one of the other three. The Green party, as far as I'm considered, is a waste of a vote - and so is any other vote other than the big three (four). In voting for anyone else, you're basically tossing away the chance to give at least the best of what the three (four) offer a chance. People who vote Green, or anything like that like to say they're making a statement, and then when someone gets into power they don't want, or wanted less than another party, they whine and complain the whole time. Make the vote count and then write your MP if you have problems, don't make your voice meaningless by voting for something that has absolutely zero chance of making a difference in this country. I don't know what other people think or are interested in, and I won't go into any more detail, however if the conversation becomes lively enough (and civil) I'd love to hear what everyone thinks and have a real debate. I'm not sure that's possible on a hockey site (where passions run way too high anyhow) at all, though. *shrugs* Just some opinions.
  21. They are according to RDS. And suddenly things become interesting. Benching Ribs for one game is a penalty for not playing well. Benching him for two? Rarely do you see your third best scorer benched in consecutive games - even if he is playing like Spare Ribs. There's at least a good possibility that something's up.

Maca, describe this Battlefield, or whatever it is to me. I might be curious to get it and play (and lose to) you online. I miss online gaming. Just got my HL2. OH MY DROOL. Wowzers. AOE3 looks like another I'll consider. Gotta love Best Buy gift certificates for Christmas.
  23. That Pittsburgh guy is hilarious. "Slap gramma from her chair, I needa siddown!" Chris Cuthbert as PBP man is excellent. I'll always love Dick Irvin. Danny Gallivan. Ah, those were the days. It was actually worth it to watch the CBC. Buffalo fella is good as well, and I miss the La-la-la-la-la-la-la-lafontaiiiiiiiiiiine! That was awesome.
  24. Buffalo, Toronto, Florida, Montreal, and Washington The teams "apparently" interested in his services.
  25. Dunno how many games you've seen recently, but Bulis has *significantly* out-performed Spare Ribs.
