I think Gainey will re-sign Kovalev this summer because otherwise he wouldn't have traded Balej and a 2nd. Juneau and Quintal will both retire after this season and Perreault is also on his way out. So there is some money available for Kovalev and hopefully the HABS will keep such a talented player in town.

It will be a tough game, hopefully Kovalev won't be too tired for this game. I say 3-2 :hlogo: Koivu, Kovalev, Dagenais Better for McLaren that he isn't playing, I'll never forget the cheap shot against Zednik. :mad:

Why trading Dackell? :?- I think he is a very underrated player ... he is an intelligent, defensive player who is a big part on the PK. I wouldn't trade him for someone like Barnaby or Simon. As @Habinator33 said, the HABS should trade for a veteran D-man before the trade deadline. A guy like Hill or Odelein would be only in town for the playoffs and it's always better to have an extra, experienced defenseman in the lineup, especially in the playoffs. Right now they don't really need an extra man because Bouillon is playing great hockey. But if there's any injury or suspension, I really don't want to see Dykhuis on the ice. I'd like to see Gauthier or Witt playing for the HABS but perhaps we'll have to give up too much for such a trade ... Trading Komi would be ridicilous. He is by far the best defensive prospect for the HABS ... give him time, he'll make us proud soon.

O'Neill has a bad year so far: only 13 goals, that's nothing for a potential 30-goalscorer. (by the way: Zednik has 19 ). It would be a much better team if Zednik and O'Neill will both play for us ... O'Neill alone won't help the HABS in the playoffs, though he is very physical. [Edited on 29-2-04 by habsfannr1]

This O'Neill for Zednik rumour makes absolutely no sense to me ... :?- Why should Gainey trade away his best goalscorer (though he is in a slump right now)? I thought they would like to have ANOTHER wing, instead of replacing Zednik with someone else who isn't producing this season. O'Neill is slumping all season long, he won't really help them this year in the playoffs. Do you really think the HABS will be a better team with O'Neill in, Zednik out and Dagenais holding on to a spot? I think they have to keep Zednik and perhaps getting O'Neil as a bonus to "replace Dagenais" ... I'd like to see O'Neill in a HABS uniform, but only if we keep Zednik. Very good article @Colin Prichett, it's completely also my opinion. :/) Ribeiro needs more experience and he will surely get better from game to game and so the HABS will have 2 very good centers for the future.

Niklas Sundström was one of the best offensive player in junior hockey in Sweden. He formed one of the best lines ever with Peter Forsberg and Markus Näslund at the national team. In the NHL the Rangers and mainly the Sharks "converted" him into a defensive minded player. But I think if he would get more time on the 1st or 2nd line, he will regain his offensive skills. On the other hand he is an important part for the defensive game of the HABS right now, so they should better use him there. PS.: Sorry for my bad english ... [Edited on 2004/1/31 by habsfannr1]

Nice to see Tomáš Plekanec playing again, hopefully he will be also playing when Perreault is back. By the way: check out his homepage, there are also some videos from his years in the Czech league. He also has a diary ... a really cool guy, hopefully he will stay with the HABS for a long time. :/) http://www.plekanec.cz/ So half of the season is over and I'm surprised how good the team played so far. I thought we will battle for the 8th PO-spot, but to be in 6th place is really a surprise to me. :ghg:

I would love to see Trevor Linden back in a Canadiens jersey, but it won't never happen. Chad Kilger could be also on his way out of Montréal, he didn't even played against the Stars, so I think he will be tradet soon. The same for Audette, I think he won't play again for the HABS. There are some rumours that they will trade Patrik Stefan for Donald Audette but Stefan is a much overrated player and he really won't help the team. They should better play with Saku and Ribeiro as the first 2 centers and keep Perreault for the faceoffs and the PP. Joé Juneau and Steve Bégin are both very good defensive fowards, so why getting another center?

The HABS had some luck in the 3rd, especially Ilja Kowaltschuk was a way to good for them. He is so fast and strong, a pity he didn't play for Montréal. José had also some great moments but if the whole team won't play better in the 3rd periods, it will be a long and tough season.
