  1. Why would the Habs want a guy like Påhlsson when we allready have Lappiere and Chipchura?

Montreal showed last season that the team is good enough to win the eastern conference. So why didn't they win the cup? It's the edge that's missing, not deepth and role-players.

Mats Sundin would be such improvement. It's either him or nothing. The second best option is to wait for a trade option to come by when season has started or at the deadline.

Maybe this is the season when the San Jose Sharks have to get rid of either Marleau or Thornton?

  2. I just have to remind everybody that Mats Sundin has said it overa a thousands of times.

He will finish his career with the Maple Leafs.

I do realize that last years incident with the no-trade clause thing could have made him to reconcider. But still. I would be surprised to see Sundin in a Nucks or a Habs uniform.

    Just as a reminder.

  3. Among the top 5 UFAs left, where will they go?

    Mats Sundin

    Joe Sakic

    Peter Forsberg

    Brendan Shanahan

    Teemu Selanne

    My guess:

    Mats Sundin - Montreal Canadiens

    Joe Sakic - Colorado Avalanche

Peter Forsberg - New York Rangers

    Brendan Shanahan - Vancouver Canucks

    Teemu Selanne - Retire

  4. Sundin is a franshise player. Demitra is not.

Fedorov would and should be plan B. Just look at how he came to play with the youngsters in Washington. He would be a perfect fit for a Kostitsyn and Kovalev. Also he would take Streits place on the powerplay as pointman.

  5. Right now...

    Tanguay - Koivu - Kostitsyn

    Kostitsyn - Plekanec - Kovalev

    Higgins - Lappiere - Latendresse

    Begin - Chipchura - Laraque

With Sundin in a red, blue and white uniform he would take the spot as first line centre and Koivu would be demoted to third, Lappy to the fourth and Chipchura to Hamilton.

What will happen to Kostopolus? Trade or will he split duties with Laraque?

  6. Really interesting thus far. Didn't expect Huet and Theodore to change teams. Ty Conklin could be a steal for the Red Wings.

Sad to see Streit go and pleased with the Kosty signing.

Now to UFAs. Sundin would be great. If he wan't one last chance to win the cup then Montreal is a good option. But Im also wondering about Sergei Fedorov and Markus Näslund.

Fedorov was one of the best player (if not the best) in last world championship... Markus Näslund and Ilya Kovalchuck are the two players that has scored the most goals this decade. And Markus has played with a defensive minded team. Sure he's a pure sniper but in my book he's as good as Hossa but would be far more cheap.

  7. Exactly what I was about to post. I think it's either retirement or the Habs for Patrice. I think him coming back depends on whether or not the team can dump Dandenault. If they can't, they could just go forward with him as the spare defender. With Ryder, the last few years we've always been waiting for him to sign with Toronto, though we always assumed they'd be snaking him away, rather than us letting him leave. Columbus will try and fail to sign one of the top forwards available and will then even miss out on bringing Mike Peca back. They will then be stuck signing a guy like Smolinski. Scott Howson will see Streit's powerplay numbers and think he's the upgrade on Hainsey he's looking for. Halfway through the season he'll find out that defensive depth in Montreal was not the only reason he was playing forward most of the season. Fan will clamor for Hainsey.

Not an Blue Jackets experts at all, but my guess is that Columbus will get a home town discount on Smolinski and sign Streit by the same reason you mention.

Ryder to Maple Leafs could be a sign and deal with Montreal. Sundin signs and Ryder signs. Both traded the next hour. I also think that's a fair compensation and my guess is that Ryder was apart of the package the Montreal hade in place for Toronto at the trading deadline. Toronto could also be the only place where Ryder would be garuanteed a spot on the top line.

  8. Is it that bad?

Isn't there any team that could use a versitaile guy like Dandy? If the Habs didn't have Streit he would be an asset to us in my opinion. Trade one overpaid player for another and take the chance?

  9. No doubt there's good hockey players in Europe and many has been over looked in the past.

Henrik Zetterberg was a late bloomer. I don't think Daniel Alfredsson was recognized by scouts either. Devils Johnny Oduya is another example.

    Name one late bloomer?

Johan Franzen with the Red Wings.

  10. I have seen Brunnström this season in Sweden and I don't get they hype at all. Sure he's a solid Elitserie-player but counting on him as a top six forward in the NHL?!

No way. He's nowhere near that good.

There's a lot better players in Sweden than Brunnström. Remember Islanders Matthias Weinhandl and Anaheims Tony Mårtensson? Both born in the 80's and was dominating in Elitserien yet there's no hype with them since they allready got their shot at the NHL.

Canadiens former danish prospect Kim Staal had 10 points in 15 games during the playoffs.

    Fabian Brunnström is nowhere near.

  11. Was browsing the NHL.com and found some cool stuff.

Radek Bonk finished the season with the worst +/- in the whole leauge. -31. Fact is Bonk haven't had a + season since 03-04. Not that impressive for a defensive centre...

More +/-: The Super-Bolts Richards (now a Star), Boyle, Vinny and St Loiis finished with a combined +/- of -95!

Vezina runner-ups Ryan Miller and Mikka Kiprusoff allowed the most goals. 197 each.

Jaroslav Halak had a better saving percentage than both Huet and Price.

Just to illustate how bad the Leafs are: Their goalie had more assists than Colaicova and Bell...

Buffalos Daniel Paille had 32 points this season, but none of them came of the powerplay.

Kovalev scored the most powerplay points this season.

And finaly: Peter Forsberg had the most points per game...

  12. All time favourite Habs: Benoit Brunet, Yannic Perreault and Alex Kovalev

    Present favourite Habs: Alex Kovalev

All time favourite in the League: Sergei Fedorov, Vladimir Kostantinov and Börje Salming

Current League favourite: Sergei Fedorov, Vincent Lecavalier and Alexander Ovechkin

Player I used to hate: Eric Lindros

Player I hate today: Sean Avery and Darcy Tucker

Benoit Brunet and Patric Kjellberg... My heroes when I started to cheer for the Habs. When I started to play hockey myself Kjellberg played with the senior team in the same club. He later played for my favourite team in Sweden and then in the NHL. Brunet mostly because I think he scored the GWG in the first NHL game I ever saw.

Always been a fan of Kovalev and his stickhandling.

Sergei Fedorov, Börje Salmin (even if he had a maple leaf on his shirt) and Vladimir Kostantinov where my idols when I grew up. Fedorov was the most complete player and I studied him and tried to learn everything I could.

Lindros for refusing Quebec. I thought it was unsportsmanlike. And still do.

Sean Avery for being a jerk and Tucker for being a pain. I watch that clip when Kovalev hits Tucker still sometimes...

  13. Feeling so fooking good. Just got NASN (North American Sports Network) and will be watching the game live.

Without and illegal Winamp add-on. Without delay. Without crap quality.

    Go Habs go!

... And by the way, I was in Montreal last week and saw the game live versus the Devils...

I love Montreal. Will visit soon again. And why, has no one ever told me about La ville suterrain before?!
