  1. Sure that is true, Roy comes to mind, but I don't like the fact that the Habs are going to the playoffs with two rookies in net. That's doesn't need arguments to understand why.

Second, I think Montreal got too litle in return for Huet. Im confused there wasn't a bigger market for him.

It's sometimes said that your goaltender is half your team. Therefore it's not a fair to comparision you make with the draft picks. Crosby was also a phenomenon a la Mario Lemieux.

Still, Im disapointed. Im glad Gainey didn't match any of the offers for Richards or Hossa but Fedorov, Bäckman, Cooke, Lapointe and Ruutu all came afordable and would have been nice additions for the playoffs.

  2. I totaly disagree. Montreal sold Huet cheap. Are we really putting that much pressure on a rookie goaltender? I have no doubt that Price is the future but right now our goalie tandem has played 28 games this season and 44 games in total.

What have the prove yet?! Yann Danis has a higher winning percentage and lower goal against average.

The pick is also Anaheims. Don't expect them to finnish in the lower half.

  3. About Sundin. I think it was a class act. The teammates wanted him to stay and I bet the fans as well. Sundin agreed to a lower salary for a no-trade clause and now Fletcher asked him to waive it? If a veteran captains choice is to stay with his team even when they suck (In Leafs case, always), then I think it's admirable.

I was thinking of Gainey and his trading deadline history. What kind of deal has he done in the past?

He didn't make any big deals in Dallas when they won. He added Houge a few days earlier but that was just a small transaction. I don't know if Im right here but Gainey has never traded a core player at the deadline? Not even a roster player?

Since Hawks wants equal talent for Havlat that rule him out. Hossa for Streit and Ryder? Two roster players? Don't think so, Im not even sure he'd do it for Marleau or Richards. The Habs have come a great season thus far, and it would be dangerous to mess to much with chemistry.

    So what could be realistic?

Martin Lapointe? Jeff Halpern? Sergei Fedorov?

  4. Cannot name them but there was some with the Oilers, the Maple and the Rags in the 80,

some of them were traded to the Nordiques and moved to the AVs after that.

But hockey players are good actors, usually they have a good family with a blond bomshell

crying with their kids at their jerseys retirement.

    Jason Bonsignore?

  5. If there's any truth in todays rumour about Marleau, then Montreal is screwed. Only a three-way deal could make it work as I don't think Montreal could or would deal with either Markov, Komisarek or Hamrlik.

Earlier I said Koivu would never be traded. Marleau could be the only exception. Maybe he would like to end his career somewhere warmer along with his old buddy Rivet?

And. Finaly... A Permanent Trade Rumour post is never complete without adding a trade proposal.

Marleau for Koivu, Canadiens first round pick and a prospect.

  6. Well actually, you said that he would fetch a late rounder, thats what I was arguing, along with the fact you said "who would want him". Now your saying you have no doubt that we would get a 1st rounder, and a 4th liner. So there is no language barrier, you just didn't say that earlier, all you said was who would want him. You just have to clarify what you're talking about. That's all.

But I do think he would fetch a late rounder... (Or better)

Im wondering who'd want him. (Since the price would be a lot more than a late rounder. (Or better)

  7. When Craig Rivet fetches you a 1st round pick and a solid NHL ready defensman (georges) Then Saku Koivu (down year or not ) is going to get a hell of a lot more. And again this is all speculation because Koivu is not going anywhere, he has a NTC.

It seems like there's a language barrier here...

Im not doubting Saku Koivu would bring a first rounder and a fourth liner in return. But it would be insane to trade the captain for that! The same thing could be said about Lecavalier in Tampa and Marleau in San Jose. But the big difference is that Tampa has Richards and San Jose have Thornton.

If the Canadiens could get Koivu to wave his no-trade clause what could the Habs get in return that would be concider an upgrade? In my opinion: None.

Therefore, along with the fact that he has a no-trade clause, Saku Koivu will not leave Montreal via trade.

    Get it now?

  8. "Small" is not a big deal in the NHL anymore. That's ridiculous - teams are desperate to pick up anyone. Even Ryder would attract some interest.

If you actually think he has zero value, you're deluded.

Er, what? Of course Koiuv has value. But would it be possible to get anything better in return? That's the question. All 29 other GMs would get Koivu if the price was right, like a late pick. But that's just stupid to speculate about.

    Get my point?

  9. I don't think Koivu will ever leave Montreal.

Who'd want him? He's small, has just played a few full seasons and has never got far in the playoff. Sure he's been captain of the weakest version of the Habs, but I have a hard time seeing that he would atract much atention on the market.

  10. Does anyone know about Korneev?

Russia has practicly won the Euro Hockey Tour today after Finland beat Sweden 2-1. Swedish rookie Patric Berglund made is first real game for Sweden.

Berglund, runner up for MVP at last World Junior Championship, is the third player in Sweden to play for the national team before playing in the Elitserien.

Oduya and Zetterberg was the other. I like what I see and I'm sure we will see more of him in the NHL. I think he's allready signed by the Blues.

  11. Emelin was in Sweden today for the Sweden-Russia game in The Globe Arena. LG Hockey Games has just begun and Russia beat Sweden 4-3. Emelin was solid, even if he took two bad penalties. In my opinion Kostantin Korneev was just as interesting. Do the Habs still hold the rights to him?

The game was one of the better played this season. Eremenko in goal was brilliant.
