I'm not sure Ouellet is the answer... I can understand where Mete is coming from asking for a trade, his leash is ridiculously short while Romanov makes numerous errors each game and has gotten something of the royalty treatment.  Now I think that Romanov is a better prospect of course, but their respective performances haven't been that far apart.

With all respect, I’m not sure that we are watching the same players if you think that Mete’s and Romanov’s performances have been similar. Romanov is a better passer, more physical and has better hockey sense. He is also a rookie and Mete has over a hundred games played. Mere has played himself into a strictly temporary emergency replacement. I was hoping for more from him but I believe the Canadiens rushed him to the NHL and screwed up his development. It’s too bad. I had high hopes for him, but Romanov is playing ahead of him on merit not potential

My gut feeling is Romanov for a few shifts with Weber then Mete who is playing with Kulak gets swapped with Romanov.

I think you are correct. Mattias Ekholm anyone? Yes, I know Covid makes it difficult; yes, I know the salary cap makes it unlikely; yes, I know that it creates expansion draft headaches...Mr. Bergeron? I want a puck moving defenceman who can play with Weber. Please, pretty please...I’ll be good, I promise😎

  3. I just finished watching it. I like to pvr the start and watch while being able to skip the commercials and much of what passes for commentary these days. Although I have to say,  I am liking Craig Button as a colour analyst much more than I thought I would.
it’s nearly 3:00 am and I’m too wired to sleep. Tomorrow could be a very challenging day.

  4. Tonight’s game starts at 11pm here in PEI and Thursday’s not until midnight. Friday could be a very bad no good day unless I have a win to celebrate through the sleep deprivation. Still not as bad as the playoffs in Qatar when the games started at 3am. I used catch hell from my wife for letting my son watch on school nights😎

NHL is a joke. The call against the Habs last game is so extraordinarily bad that I found myself wondering whether Bergevin or Molson or Julien or *someone* has offended the powers that be, because some kind irrational anti-Hab hate-on seemed to be the only explanation. However, when dealing with this league, incompetence is usually the better explanation. Occam’s Razor.

Past a certain point, it is almost impossible to distinguish between incompetence and malice. ~an interpretation of Hanlon’s Razor

HOLY SH*T. This is a MAJOR shocker - most organizations would wait longer. (Although I guess you can argue that timing has to be pro-rated in a shortened season).

I have a lot of respect for both men and am sort of sorry to see them go. (I will always love Muller for 1993). On the other hand, I also have a ton of respect for the no-BS attitude that canned them because the team has been under-performing. Succeed or you are gone. That’s the right attitude.

It will be fascinating to see how the team responds and what changes Ducharme makes. I’m betting a reshuffling of the D-corps to reward mobility is job one.

I sure as &@%#!!! hope so. It was Julien’s refusal or inability to change the D, the lines, PP, PK, etcetera that got him —deservedly— fired. I feel bad for CJ but I love this move.

His cap hit is less than 3M$. Give me a break with Allen's cap hit.  Unless you absolutely want to go with a 6 figures backup.  Byron's cap hit is higher than that.  I say  Pay a pick ton unload Byron if necessary.  Keep Allen if you're serious about going deep in the playoffs.

I agree. In fact, I already said in another thread that Montreal should be considering giving Seattle a pick to lay off Allen. But getting them to pick Byron would be even better.

I doubt he is claimed.  Not a lot of teams that can fit that contract.

This means that the team wants what Perry brings to the lineup on most nights.

And Byron can save them some money on the taxi squad.  I expect he will go up and down when he clears.

I think there is a possibility that Ottawa, given that they just cleared a roster spot,   or Detroit claim him. He could provide some jam and a veteran presence as these teams are very young. I’m hoping that he clears.

Im gonna need more Kulak and less edmundson.

I think that the team envisions Romanov on the second pair dropping Edmunston to the 3rd pair where he belongs. If this happens by the end of the season everyone, with the possible exception of Edmunston, will be happy. If not, I would be fine with Kulak moving up with Petry. He’s already shown that he can thrive in that role.

  10. To be honest, I thought that they might have done this and put Byron on the taxi squad at the beginning of the season. I really, really, like Byron but if he does get claimed it eases the salary cap crunch considerably. If he doesn’t, still great NHL depth on the taxi squad. Win, win for the Canadiens, kinda sucks for Byron.

The year that Roy went down with appendicitis, prior to that Roy was not doing well and media was calling for Racicot to take over. There was even a survey for fans.

Sadly, this really happened. That’s why we are called fans, short for “fanatics” and not, rosees- “rational observers of a sports entertainment entity”.

Habs win, but only because of Allen.  I'm not sure habs win that game if Price was in net.

I was thinking the same thing. It is an odd feeling thinking that the back-up will give the team a better chance to win. If this continues, I would be offering Seattle a 2nd round pick to leave Allen alone.

We need to make adjustments or we will lose again.

Sens blocked neutral zone so we had no speed. We need a new game plan or I don’t see a different outcome

The game plan wasn't the problem. Execution and the speed of execution were sorely lacking last game. This is more about getting back to what works. Also, someone should piss off Josh Anderson just before the game starts. Angry Anderson is awesome!

    I incline toward this theory.

See, a lot of Habs fans don’t remember what it is like to have a team like this one. You have to go back to the period from about 1988-94. A team that is structurally strong may indeed suffer dips in intensity against basement-dwellers. And sometimes there is some team down in the league’s bowels that give you a hard time (the Whalers always used to frustrate the Habs even when the former were much inferior). Still, if this edition of the Habs falls into the trap of taking the Sens lightly, the result is more likely to be close games than a string of defeats.

It’s been so long that I barely remember what it is like to have a team like this 😎

With their D depleted by injuries, Myers is one of their best defencemen - LOL! The smart hockey play is to dump it into whichever corner is manned by the weakest guy, so for all we know the Habs might put more pressure on his partner than him.

If he is their best D- a very scary proposition for Canucks’ fans— then I think pressurizing him is the smart hockey play. Vancouver fans have nicknamed him Tyler Minors for a reason, after his penchant for bad penalties.

  16. 46 minutes ago, The Chicoutimi Cucumber said:

Listen, if you somehow get Myers in a vulnerable position? Then hey, yes, lower the boom.

But keep in mind that a Hab who crosses the line probably *will* get suspended, because the league will know that it’s retaliation. (By contrast, the league appears to be blissfully unaware that players whose teams are being humiliated in blowouts are much more likely to take out their frustrations with dangerous attempts to injure; which was exactly what happened when Chara attempted to permanently paralyze Pacioretty, and when Myers aimed right at Armia’s head).

And we can run around and get all sorts of penalties trying to get back at Myers, sure. It’s a great way to lose a game against a team we should easily destroy. Also, I want this team to learn to rein in the dumb penalties, not wallow in them.

Better to go out there, play hard, play physical, crush the Canucks both physically and on the scoreboard. Never mind Myers. If we hammer the Canucks with impunity, the lesson will be learned without any need for illegal attempts to injure.

I agree, but with one addition: the Canadiens need to dump the puck into Myer’s corner all night and hammer him relentlessly on the forecheck. He will learn his lesson, all the turnovers will produce scoring chances and goals. And, there is not much chance of a Habs player getting suspended for an illegal check to Myer’s head😎

I think a lot of people will be surprised by how well they're going to come out of this.

I agree. As long as multiple teams are interested,  Columbus’ return will be high. Unless MB can pull off a miracle,  I don’t think Montreal gets Dubois at a price most fans would be happy with. Also, Winnipeg makes sense since neither Liane nor Roslovic are playing for them right now so Quarantine is less of an issue for the Jets.

Myers is 6'7. While the Habs have some bruising dudes, I seriously doubt that any of them are going to be physically capable of exacting revenge even if they have a mind to.

Best thing to do is go out there and just whup the Canucks' asses.

I disagree that Myers had no intent. He thrust his shoulder upward into Armia's face at the last moment and that is why he made contact with the head. It was a pure, 100%, bona fide dirty hit, borne of frustration with the scoreboard and his own execrable suckage all night long.

Very true. This is the one time I wish we had a goon that could take on Myers. Where is John Scott when you need him? 😎Also, “execrable suckage” is the best description of Myer’s play I have heard. It’s almost Shakespearian. I hope there is no stupidity that costs us the game but I really hope that Myers gets smashed, repeatedly...legally of course
