  1. Is the NHL ready for the Tofu Goon? disclaimer: I, JLP, have been vegetarian for 20 years. So keep this thread clean .

  3. Considering we got Komi with a good pick but now risk losing him before he hits his prime, because of a questionable policy of not re-signing our guys, I think we ought to change that policy before we talk about how the draft might help us. Plus we had our chance to grab a star with the 5th we used on Price, I always thought we blew it right there, goalies are a breed apart and who knows how they will turn out. (not suggesting Price is a bust, just saying goalies are a crap shoot, and Tim Thomas was in beer leagues not long ago, so why gamble a 5th?) Finally, the 100th was the supposed to be the triumph of a "five-year plan" hatched by a great hockey mind. So, no, I don't want to try another five-year plan. I'm friggin' tired of waiting I don't want to be in a walker before we get a team that can skate.

    Capitalism?

IMO capitalism brings out the worst in people. As KoZ points out, capitalism is about increasing profits, not advancing humanity. After sixty centuries, is this the best we can manage?
  5. I would go to Shoutcast radio (I access it easily through Winamp), and sample the dozens of jazz stations they have to see what sub genre you prefer. Me, I can't stand fusion or dixieland but love african jazz and classic quartets. Narrowing jazz down to era and style is important -- consider the differences between Slipknot and Billy Joel in 'rock' for example. That said, Simonus has a great list, and it's hard not to like Charlie Mingus, always plays with great musicians.
  6. You know Gunther, and loathe him? He's just looking for some love! I swear think he's the greatest hehehe, the perfect parody of the retro nightclubber! How popular is he outside Sweden? Anyway I laugh every time I watch one of his vids . . .
  7. Well, in Québec, there's way more hot chicks a financially-advantaged professional hockey player might interest in helping to start his family. Once the kids are old enough to go to school, he can send them to private English schools if he likes, LCC and ECS then Marianopolis is the usual route . . . Not a big problem if you're a Habs draftee I would think . . .

  9. Right, I have officially forgotten all my Canadian history. Who wrote the recommendation for the Quebec Act, the benevolent Brit who believed the Quebecois should be allowed to keep French Civil Law and their language? *searches Wiki* Ah, it was Dorchester, so that's why that name bobbed up on the decaying mush of my mind. Real name "Guy" and damn they took away his street, Guys get no love in the Q to the C.
  10. Right, thanks. i meant the Durham Report. As an anglo quebecois just wanted to point out that the french language was also preserved in part thanks to Durham. And while I'm infusing balance, I'll venture to say the quebecois were kept down not only by the Catholic church but also by the likes of Duplessis. But I mostly agree with KoZed's analysis.

    Browsers Poll

It's the extensions that keep me with FF. Over the years I've added about 20 of them, tweaking the browser so much that I get agro when I try using someone else's box, creature of habit now, stuck on FF. Memory leak is the biggest issue for sure with FF, but with session manager I can stop and restart FF to cut the CPU drain without losing the tabs. I only do this once every day or three, not a big enough hassle to change to a new browser.
  12. Yup that's when the bells sound. Actually there are frequently tête carrée on the franco board, they go to score pot, nobody complains.
  13. Interesting SN poll, the Players didn't care much for Chris P it seems, Steve Ott tied for the 'honor', Ruutu in third.
  14. In Japan there have been American and European baseball and soccer club coaches who didn't speak Japanese. They had interpreters . . .
  15. So now if Gillett files for bankruptcy the Habs will be auctioned similar to repossessed cars and houses? "On the block now, lot number 732-956, a professional ice hockey franchise. This is an as-is item... Do I hear an opening bid? ...?"
  16. "had"? I just had a nice burger? You can do better than that I know! I just enjoyed a juicy burger I just wolfed a yummy burger I just relished a delicious burger I just savored a scrumptious burger By the way, I notice Dilallo Burger is still in Montreal, are they any good these days or are the glory years long gone?

    Backpacking Europe

No way mahn, Belgians put chocolate and cherry in their beers, you want a good German pilsener, not friggin' Haagen-Daz

    Gainey

Has Gainey every addressed the suggestion that his singular policy of not re-signing players early might have been detrimental to team spirit? I mean we drafted Komi and now we risk losing him before he hits his prime, for example. If management wants the players to commit to the team, maybe the team ought to have committed to the players? This is probably the biggest head-scratcher I have when I look at Gainey . . .

    Backpacking Europe

First stop: German beers! You have an itinerary? I know you said 'hitchhike' but that's not as easy/common as it used to be, a Eurail pass could give you added options for getting round...
  20. Plus, and it's a HUGE plus, he speaks French! Anyway IMO Koivu had his chance, sadly, dunno who to blame, but anyway seems that it's time to turn the page . . .
  21. So that 'lil smiley you use so much is meant to be rolling eyes, as from exasperation? Sorry, hockey maven, must be tough being one of the few fans satisfied with what Laraque brought to the Habs. Which is...? Cos I don't know that this role ("nice guy, available for fisticuffs, should the opposition be interested") has a name yet. It certainly isn't "goon" or "grinder" or "enforcer". How would you characterize Laraque exactly?
