This makes perfect sense and I expect it will be how HuGo approach it. I know that I’m in the minority here but I think Kovacevic is far ahead of Barron. Kovasevic is pushing the boundaries of second pairing (he can’t handle it yet). Barron is pushing the boundaries of #7 Dman IMO

Im not sure that Barron has a NHL career, I think he is on the borderline. Having said that, I noticed an improvement in his Dzone play when he got called up in the late season. He made simple box out plays and was much better at covering his man. Maybe he has enough growth left to have a bottom pairing role.

Sorry friend I left you the wrong impression from my original post. I wasn’t advocating for Nylander it was just that he is injured and returning at some point. Mathews is clearly a scorer but he isn’t a scorer like MaxPac nope he is an elite scorer, generational talent. My original point is about playing an elite scorer like Mathews with two low skill guys. Guys that crash and work the net and boards but aren’t passers. I just don’t think it’s wise but I could be wrong.

I get the thinking behind it but you gotta play talent with talent. Imagine playing Gallagher and Armia with Suzuki instead of Slafkovsky and Caufield?

Captain Obvious stuff here by Friedman but Im excited.

It’s amazing to watch the leafs lose in the playoffs. I think it’s a mistake to play one of the highest skilled players in the NHL, Mathews with two lunch pail type players. I get spreading your talent around so it’s tougher to shut everyone down but you’re wasting generational talent IMO. Maybe Nylander takes a spot there.
