  1. Good thing they have Smyth there to deflect all those Sykora shots ... because I hear he has a very inaccurate shot. good signing though
  2. Don't know if this is a huge thing but I thought i'd post it anyways http://www.tsn.ca/nhl/news_story/?ID=173883&hubname=nhl You've got to admit though ... Even though Gillett is american he sure has done alot to help get the habs back to near the top ... he's brought in the right people and has kept his hand out of the cookie jar when it comes to player and team desicions
  3. you can't have your two best forward prospects sitting on the bench or up in the press box watching ... they need to be playing and there's not much more they can learn in Hamilton .. especially Perez ... Kotsy might be sent down but it won't be for long. it would be nice to have Dumont but there's just not room for him unless you want to dump a forward.
  4. I like what you wrote Kozed ... you make a great point ! I think this year will be the indication if he's going to get any better and stick with the team ... which is why I think he was not offered a multi-year deal ... if he can improve his defense and playmaking to go with his goal scoring then I think the multi-year contract will be waiting in the offseason for him.
  5. Don't know for sure ... but I think it would be safe to assume it is a 2 way. I doubt BG would give him a one way deal to play in the AHL ... unless he's that good
  6. on a team that struggles to score ( especially last season ) i'm sure Gainey didn't want him thinking defense ... they want him to SCORE and think offense ... Koivu and Higgins can play D pretty well ... Ryder is the sniper of that line ... he needs to do that and he can't if he's constantly thinking Defense first. Brett Hull , Pavel Bure were snipers .. they didn't think about defense and i'm sure any team would want either of those two in there primes ... ( btw not comparing ryder to them just the role ) now, can ryder get more efficent when he back checks ? yes he can and I think he will over time with carbo helping him.
  7. umm, well O'Byrne is not really much bigger than Komi ... O'Byrne is 6'5" 236 and Komi is 6'4" 240 ... so not much dfference there ... however I hear ( and like you said ) O'Byrne is a more fluid skater than Komi and has better overall offensive abilities than Komi ... better shot ( not harder ) better heads up player and can make out let passes better. with how Komi has developed if O'Byrne can follow that or do better than we're in a for a treat ... especially with those two patroling the blueline :king:
  8. I just can't wait for him to knock the crap out of someone with a body check then have the announcer say " that guy just got O BURNNNNED ! "
  9. make sure you game is patched and then I believe you have to move the file that you download to a file in your game files ... then when you start the game go to update rosters and click on the one that has the april date .... sorry I couldn't be more specific i'm at work. but it requires the lastest patch in order to work correctly.
  10. Already posted http://forums.habsworld.net/index.php?showtopic=7810&hl=
  11. well I think Begin, even being a 4th liner he gets more ice time than most of the 3rd liners on the team ... mostly because he's the #1 PK option he gets alot of his minutes there.
  12. sAweet ! ... hopefully he can keep progressing well in the AHL
  13. I like your idea of packaging ryder and ribeiro for a good sized/skilled center .. that's what the habs need ... however its a tight line to walk .. do you sign Dumont first ? then everyone would know what bob was doing and ryder's stock goes down and teams will ask for more for that player we're looking for ... if you trade first there's no gurentee (sp) that Dumont will sign .. he may change his mind or someone will offer him more money.
  14. I heard from a guy in eygpt that heard it from a guy in china that patrick roy was going to come out of retirement and kidnap Jaques Plante and force him to unretire his #1 jersey so he can wear it and play for the Habs again ... also he'd only want Abby to be his back up and have Huet there just to shine his skates .. which he got from a guy in mongolia that said they were magical.
  15. I don't see this happening ... yes Dumont is a good player .. but the habs would have to dump people to accomidate him and its not even training camp yet ... we don't know which people are going to step up or have made a big improvement in the off season ... we need to find out .. they're will be time to trade people and make roster moves during the preseason. btw ... I think what the mods are trying to get across is that, unless its from a reliable news sorce and not from a rumor blog like Eklund / rumors.blogspot, don't post it ... there are plenty of things to discuss ... I think most of the people who post here can come up with better rumors than those knuckleheads ... if you feel that you think the Habs should pick up a player then post why and state YOUR opinion .. don't go off of what those type of rumor places splat all over they're websites just to get people to read. its not a contest here to get as many replies to a thread as possible ... if your idea to pick up a player is good then people will talk about it ... if not then people won't .. but that's ok because the world isn't going to end. sorry for the semi-rant .. it was not directed at anyone
  16. why does it seem lately that anytime someone becomes a UFA ( ie. Dumont , Tanabe , etc ) everyone thinks the Habs should line up and be first in line ( like when its time for recess and everyone bolts for the swings ) same with trade rumors. Its not even training camp yet !!... bob is done for now and I don't think even if he does anything that we'll see it coming. I'm sure Bob wants to see how his young guys like Koty, Chip and Guy will do in camp ... after that he'll adjust the team accordingly and make his moves. So we all just need to sit back enjoy the summer, rest up and relax and be ready to go nuts when training camp opens :king: this was not meant to snap at anyone ... just something i've noticed lately. :ghg:
  17. Shit did someone lose him again ... alright everyone break out the flashlights we gotta find Kotsi again Training camp opens in Sept.
  18. unfortunatly when all those great draft picks all get good by 22-25 years of age they're all going to want alot of money so a few will have to be traded anyways ... I say keep crosby , staal , flurey down the middle with Whitney and trade Malkin and make at least one run at the cup before they break the pens financially. I'm not saying today but in the very near future.
  19. Well you can't blame the russian hockey federation ... they're trying to grow they're game and league and they basically don't want to lose players like Malkin anymore so they are going to try to milk as much money out of clubs as they can so that the teams won't try to take they're players. As for Malkin ... this kid has way to many people pulling him in way too many directions ... he fired his agent in June and says I want to play in the nhl ... then that agent finds him a loophole to get out of russia ... what does Malkin do ??? FIRE his ass and go back to his old agent and then sign this one year deal with the same team he already has a contract with ? go figure ... I don't think this kid knows what he wants anymore. Sucks for the Pens ... but hey, Jordan Staal now has the opportunity to steal his 2nd line center position ... then the pens can trade Malkin's rights for the defensman and wingers they desperatly need.
  20. FORWARDS Steve Begin: **** ( plays hard every night, can't ask for much more ) Radek Bonk: *** ( ok 3rd line center but should be great, Good defensivly but needs to put up 15g 40p to be effective as a two way forward ) Aaron Downey: ** ( plays hard every chance he gets ... but he's a poor man's Begin ... he's not going to get any better ) Christopher Higgins: **** ( works hard every night, great along the boards, decent scoring touch ... future captian material ) Mike Johnson: **** ( hard to tell how he will play with the Habs, good size, plays hard, not affraid to go to the net but not very physical for his size ) Saku Koivu: ***** ( good speed and defensive instincts as well as his great playmaking skills ... needs guys like Higgins/Johnson on his line for him to be effective ) Alexei Kovalev: ***** ( best one on one player in the league, great at holding on to the puck but can hold on to it too long, needs someone on his line to clog up the middle and create screens for his shot ) Garth Murray: *** ( excellent 4th liner, could be a 3rd liner if he can develop a better scoring touch ) Alexander Perezhogin: *** ( needs to be more consistant but has the tools ... great speed ) Tomas Plekanec: *** ( still not sold on him but does have the tools to be a great two way player ) Mike Ribeiro: ** ( great offensive upside but still hasn't developed a defensive game and is very inconsitant shy's away from phsycial contact too offten ) Michael Ryder: *** ( great shooter and offensive skills, needs to develop better skating speed and needs to take up residence in front of the net more often ) Sergei Samsonov: **** ( great offensive skills and speed, even for his size he still drives the net ... also needs a linemate to clog the middle to open up space ) Andrei Kostitsyn: *** ( great offensive skills and shot ... great size 6'1" 208, needs to drive the net more and develop his defensive game ) DEFENSEMEN Francis Bouillon: *** ( plays hard every night and every year, month , day , shift gets better and better ) Mathieu Dandenault: *** ( good speed and offensive upside, not very physical for his size .. needs to add some strength to his game ) Mike Komisarek: *** ( good physical defensman ... could develop into a great shut down defenseman .. needs to work on his skating and outlet passing skills ) Andrei Markov: ***** ( all around great dman ... good offensive skills and equal dman skills ... plays hard every night ) Craig Rivet: *** ( good defensive skills although not the shut down dman he should be ) Sheldon Souray: **** ( close to being a very good two way defenseman ... needs to be more consitant and work on his skating skills ) Mark Streit: *** ( has good instincts but skills are still not nhl caliber ... needs to become more physical and confident in his game ) GOALTENDERS David Aebischer: **** ( already proven he can be a #1 for a full season ... has the tools but needs to be more confident and consitant ) Cristobal Huet: *** ( still not sold yet ... could be a dud or the next Kiprusoff, time will tell ) Yann Danis: *** ( will be a solid backup but don't see him being a #1 starter .. although I hope he proves me wrong ) also to answer a question someone posted above ... why saku can't put up better numbers now that he has wingers .... well I think they got the wrong wingers ... Kovalev and Koivu don't mix well together and they both like to control the play .. they can't do it while on the same line ... Kovalev needs some one to create room for him and Koivu needs a sniper that can get open for passes ... which is why he, Ryder and higgins did so well together ... I was hopping the habs would have gotten arrnot for Kovy and either perez or kosti instead of samasonv ... but I think if you put Johnson in the middle of Kovy and Sammy they would click alot better than sticking them with riberio
  21. There's a team in Chicago ??? wow
