  1. best game I've seen Joey Mac play this year. Cold night with poor road conditions lead to another friends and relatives type crowd, even with a lot of free tickets (from the previous mid week win). Tinordi called up per CHML's Luke Vermeer right after the game
  2. highlights on the Bulldogs facebook page so far
  3. started last night on CHML between 8-9pm. On for the next 8 weeks. Kind of snuck this one up on us and I just lucked into it by accident. Great interview with Tangradi. Hopefully last night's show will be available on CHML's website shortly
  4. I thought I'd gone to a Junior A game with that score. Final 7-5. Officials called a soft penalty on Tangradi when it was 6-5 with time running down but Dumey got an empty netter from about 175 ft. Nice crowd with family day, etc. Sorry to see Condon's GAA going all to hell the last couple games. Team still seems to have problems winning faceoffs on the few power plays they are awarded. One thing I wanted to ask you guys-if a team has two players kicked out of the faceoff in succession, is that not a delay of game penalty???. Utica did that just before they scored on Mike. (re the penalty on Tangradi-it is almost scripted lately that a softee will be called on the team leading by one late in the game. Tangradi was doing a great job shadowing the Utica player and a soft tap on the stick lead to a slashing penalty) ps-Utica Coach is long time NHL vet Travis Green. Minor league Vet (from the Manitoba Moose days) Nolan Baumgartner is a Utica assistant
  5. Pateryn called up this afternoon (due to Gonchar injury????). I mentioned to Brian that Dogs might have to get Dalton Thrower back from ECHL Brampton where he was on loan. (since Brampton does not have an AHL affiliate, Thrower was the only player on the team with an AHL affiliation of some sort-no room in Wheeling I guess when he came back from injury)
  6. left when it was 4-1 and heard Matt Holmes mention the officiating on the radio . Second game in three where I've seen the officials absolutely refuse to make calls right in front of them and the two goalie interference calls on us were a pure joke. First on us when Chris Gibson was back on the boards to the right of his net and Bowman was driven in to him by the Marlie D man-Bowman wasn't even facing Gibson. Gibson flopped like he'd been shot. In the third, we were on a PP and Dumont got pile driven into Gibson and the PP lasted all of ten seconds as a result. Sort of sad that Marlies scored the fourth one as the Dogs made it interesting in the end. I guess the 3 stars were selected before the Dogs scored as all three were Marlies. Tangradi got the Hardest Working deal. Referees were Terry Koharski and Garrett Rank (what an appropriate name). Koharski seems give off an air that it's his show and he is going to run it any way he wants. I don't know if you saw Teri Pecoski's article in the Hamilton Spec today re the team having too many vets meaning some older players who have played over X number of AHL games (260???) have to be sat out every few games-only a certain number can be dressed. Quite a contrast to when I started attending AHL on a regular basis in 1996 and the team was mainly vets with a few prospects. At that time, I think the IHL was worse for that too!
  7. He was one that I was surprised that was not re-signed a while back. (of course I thought it was odd that Vail wasn't re-signed so maybe I'm not a credible judge of players) Saw Rick Dudley in the bar/restaurant before the game (with Larry Carriere) and between periods and he had the phone glued to his ear. Haven't seen Pro Scout Doug Gibson for a while. I guess Archambault got called up to Iowa from the ECHL Alaska Aces where in 38 games, he had a respectable 20 goals and 18 assists
  8. saw Emery attack a referee in Hamilton when he played for Binghamton. Referee was Jay Sharers (who went back to being an NHL linesman shortly afterwards). Guess they couldn't use the race card. I think it's still easy to get him off his game when he is between anger management refreshers
  9. almost blew it late in the third with the man advantage. Condon came up big again late . Honestly guys, it was an ugly win. Seems like on the PP they just can't win a faceoff so it seems to become a dump and chase deal as a result. Tangradi seems to be better-still don't think he is 100% -still have to do something about the give aways in our own zone and relying on the goalie to bale them out. -tickets tonight (because of the win) are good for tickets for the Feb 18 game vs Rochester -was mainly friends and relatives tonight-no groups-Tuesday is a bad night for minor league hockey especially with the affiliate on tv -officiating again-Iowa goal was scored no more then 5 seconds after Archambault elbowed Drewiske in the shnoz right in front of referee Kendrick Nicholson who, although teamed up with another official, (Darcy Burchell) still put his whistle away -ice was crappy again-so much for the new ice plant. Building is very cold at the start of each game like they have the garage doors open to try and keep things cool. -for a Tuesday game, I hope the company doing the marketing realize they can't charge the same as weekend games at the box office. Otherwise-expect 2000 every midweek game
  10. hard to find out re Hamilton player's injury status for sure
  11. and post game show on CHML is much improved with Luke Vermeer doing it. Proves he actually watches the game on AHL network as he mentioned the Allen head shot penalty was not a penalty and the Monster player hurt himself trying to avoid it the check. Just wish Matt would tell us more re the officiating each game. Tonight again-single ref (Kendrick Nicholson)
  12. they got MacDonald high twice. Once after the shooter left Tinordi looking for his jock strap. Just blew right by him. Tinordi's goal likely shouldn't have counted. Hudon passed the puck back with his hand from the faceoff which I believe is now a penalty!!! Iowa team complained after the goal was replayed on the video screen but to no avail. Hard to believe single referee TJ Luxmore only called two penalties all game-both to the Dogs. I saw Andrighetto going for the ice bag twice after getting slashed across the wrists and Carr had his stick held perhaps 15 feet in front of Luxmore with the fans yelling and no call. I'm not sure the way they played tonight it would have mattered but I think we deserved at least one PP to find out. Never found out post game what was with the Defense-Dave Makowski (sp?) played a lot. I thought a couple times Sven was trying to do too much himself when he should have passed. Tangradi is a Jeckyl and Hyde. Looks like a top forward one shift and the next looks like he should be playing for Dundas in Senior AAA Second period was the usual headless chicken routine again-seen it too many times this year in the second. And as much as I like MacDonald, his best before date is long past.
  13. De La Rose back to the Habs-did he actually ever leave Montreal or was it a paper salary dump?
  14. Coach's interview post game sure sounded Robotic (Domo Agriato Mr Roboto). He is worse than the prime minister in answering questions and goes with some scripted monotone deal every time. Only emotion he showed was when John Lu asked him something that wasn't on his cheat sheet.
  15. agree-play seems to be in slow motion. Third goal seemed to redirect off Prices stick and then hit Nate's skate and in.
  16. common Chris-can't remember Gabriel Dumont's name?
  17. great comeback-Gilly finally gets one Don-some of us Hamilton STH's were thinking that because of our Double D's, we should get a minor sponsorship from Playtex. The heck with Pepsi.
  18. Wild score a shortie 3-2 early in the third. Unfortunate that referee Terry Koharski missed Charles Hudon being cut and taken out of the play.
  19. just seems they're running around like headless chickens. Looks like a Jr game. Send Dumey back if you're not going to play him
  20. Nygren has left for Sweden again. Guess his year is over. Reported slow recovery from a concussion.
  21. I watched the delayed broadcast on Leaf TV. Broadcast crew is made up of lead announcer Todd Crocker who teaches broadcasting at Mohawk College in Hamilton and used to do the Dogs games back when the radio broadcasts were done on McMaster University's low range FM station. The signal used to disappear at the Burlington border. The coverage including the colour man was interesting but totally biased. I know home broadcasts generally are but this was extreme. Crocker's Cossell style calling of the game sure left a lot to be desired
  22. weak officiating from Hamilton native Darcey Burchell again. Let numerous flagrant attacks by MacWilliams on Dumont slide. Called a phantom on Pateryn for hooking-seemed to be a makeup call. Failed to make a call when Pateryn was boarded and cut. Burchell is too slow for one man games. Honestly hate the big crowds as it brings out Leaf fans, not Marlie fans, who have trouble identifying two Marlie players. I realize bringing out the pseudo Marlie fans brings in needed revenue but it really prostitutes the home product. Groups showed the usual lack of behaviour-there to be seen-there to consume as many $9.75 beers as possible-no waiting for whistles. Honestly, the Wed night games with 3000 fans are more fun if you're a Dogs fan. To add insult to injury, they've already announced season ticket renewals are underway. It looks like $76.00 more next year for two less games. Maybe they should wait a while to see what kind of product they have to sell by April.
  23. Thomas is back. I see they have opened the Upper Bowl for Friday - think it's the last time for Marlie fans in the Hamilton area (I know there aren't really any-mostly Leaf fans attend) to see the blue and white in Hamilton in the regular season. Sell out for all the wrong reasons and never like how the Marlies seem to be scheduled for cheap beer night. Usually leads to more security problems. The cheap beer is 6:30 to 7:30 but I guess it's a good marketing move as it usually leads to $9.75 tall boys for the rest of the night.
