  1. I think people on this site do realize we won't be contending for the cup next year. What I believe is that with a change at GM level we can start heading in the right direction and a very high 1st round pick helps enormously to start this off.

I have read alot of people on this site saying pretty much the same thing so maybe you have misinterpretted that as people saying a one year tank will make us cup champions.

As you have pointed out several times, we are not that stocked with talent, so trading for a superstar or two is difficult (even trading for good players is hard) so alot of people would say that tanking this year is a good first step to making the team stronger.

Anyways, the main point from this ramble is I think we are at least 2-3 years away from being a contender, but with better management, a settled coaching staff and a high pick we can at least hope to be a playoff team on the rise next year rather than a bubble team constantly struggling to make the eight.

PS: Just in regards to some of your other posts questioning if people "call themselves fans" or are "fanboys", I think by definition, you can assume that all people on this site are fans to a greater or lesser degree of the habs, some support the team unreservedly and some question each decision management make, the point being we are all fans of the team and want them to succeed, so I don't think when people disagree with you it should bring their level of fandom (don't even know if thats a word) into question.

I think I read one of your posts once where you said you got in trouble playing hockey for mouthing off without thinking of the consequences. Hopefully this is the case with some of your posts as well, as I quite like reading alot of them. (just not the s**tstorm that results)

Basically to me, the term "fanboys" started with the Price fans that would bash anything Halak, but would make every excuse for Carey. It has expanded into defense of this horrible management, and treatment of ex-habs. For example a poster this week said he was glad Cammi was injured. That's a pathetic person.

  2. Great to see Pac score 30.

Yes it's the first power forward who can score that's been developed here in I don't know how long. He's absolutely the first player i'd try to lock up long term, ahead of P.K and Price. It's good to see the habs win. I am apathetic to them, but I will never root for the Habs to lose. Anyone who does openly is a lame excuse for a Montreal Canadien fan.

  3. I think i would give him a shot if the price was right. He has a lot to offer in the way of a energy guy with a bit of offence as well. If he wasn't suck an ass i bet there isn't a team in the league that wouldn't want him. If he was placed on our team now he could play third line and wouldn't look out of place. But i think he know this is his last chance at the nhl so he might straighten up and be a very useful player again.Term wise two years one mill per. Whats your take on this?

He serves no purpose here. i'd rather keep a Moen (if he wants to stay),White and Staubitz. Hasn't there been enough drama/controversy in Habland w/o him coming in

  4. Dont't get my meaning wrong I am not expecting you to say sorry or even that you are wrong on this point, its just the tone of your response that I expect him to take exception to.

then we all have to hear about how your think this way and he thinks that way......its just getting a little tiresome.....thats all. at first it was a little bit entertaining now not so much. If you would tone down your rebutals we wouldn't have to listen to the drama so much.

and by the way the point I was trying to make was that although we have many nice pieces, and we will definatly add another great one in the spring draft we are quite a ways from being a contender and it seems that the same thing happened in Anahiem with the exception of us being a contender next year....i hope I am wrong but I really dont think so

I don't know what was said. He's on ignore, and I'd suggest he does the same to me.

  5. I think since he started controlling the draft for the Habs the Habs have selected the most NHL talent. Or pretty close to it.

It seems all his picks, whether Nhlers or not end up being 5'10 3rd liners with no grit or toughness. There may be some exceptions (Pacs) His late picks have been good.SK,Halak for example.

    2 things ...

haven't heard many people call for Timmins' head - I think his work has been outstanding

so is a turn around possible or impossible? u seem to contradict yourself from dispare to hope (very little on the hope side, but there is a glimmer in that comment). crazy thing is your glimmer of hope is based simply on new management - im not all that certain by simply replacing management that we will find the grass greener on the other side.

sigh - if only our resident unfanboy were Owner/President/GM/Coach/HeadScout of our beloved Habs ...

Wow, you call yourself a fan,and are happy with this season being over in January. Are you happy rooting for the Habs to lose every night so they can draft an 18 yr old unproven Russian. Gimme a break.

  6. Agreed. I also noticed this isn't a draft full of big players. This is mostly a 5'11-6'1" draft so size lovers are going to have to be choosey. I think the biggest players are goalies.

Do people on this site realize it takes more than a one year tank to turn things around? See Pitt and Chic. for example. Do you really think that one 18 yr old will turn this around ?There is so much this organization needs:

Fire Gainey,Gauthier,Timmins and Boivin jr(what a joke that is) and Cunneyworth and replace them all with competence

Get rid of the Gomez,Skaberle and Bourque contracts

    Get a # 1 stud d-man. If Markov comes back pair himw/Emelin for a great 2nd pairing

    Two top 6 forwards

    A real 4th line

    A tough stay at home #6 dmen.Enough of these marshmallows(Weber,Campoli,Diaz}

Long way to go,but not impossible with a real management team.

  7. Price is a good goalie can u tell me when i said he wasn't? price is over played thats my point and to have a great back up if he shits the bed or gets hurt. REMEBER in the playoffs when luongo wasn't playing like he can and schneider took over. thats my point.

If you don't say Our Carey is a great goalie, you're insulting him to many fans.I look at the whole body of work with OC,including playoffs and say he's a good solid goalie. Probably in the top 12-15. But saying he's a top 5 is ludicrous

  8. he played 57 games last year and will play 40 plus this year including the playoffs so i think st.louis is pretty happy with him. you can spin any angle that price is better then halak but untill he brings this team to the third round of the playoffs he is not. I don't if a goalie goes has an 82 win season does it matter if u can't get out of the first round.

Just compare the #'s of them when they played on the team together. Is there a stat that Halak wasn't better than Our Carey. I know he won more playoff series and games in that ECF run than OC has in his entire career here.

  9. Well Commie, that's why I've had you on ignore. You've baited and trolled many of my posts since I put you on THE LIST.Time to respond after dozens of insults. i don't understand why you haven't been suspended. You can dish it out,but fer chrissakes you sure as hell can't take it. Fly away.

That's great, but what's the point?

If I'm Markov and/or the Habs training staff, I'm telling him to wait till next year. If he knee is good to go now (ish), I can only imagine it will be that much better with eight more months of rest.

    But that's just me...

I seriously doubt we'll see Gomez in Hamilton. What I think will happen is that they'll put an "amnesty" clause into the new CBA, allowing the Habs to buy Gomez out WITHOUT taking a cap hit.

The PA and league have learned from the ugly Wade Redden and Sheldon Souray situations...as such, I think this should be a no-brainer to be implemented this summer.

IMo we'll see 2 of Gomez,Skaberle or PG here next year.

  10. Are you forgetting Holland? This is the guy they targetted, not Bourque. Bourque is just something to cover off the loss of Cammy in the present on a team that is going no where, somebody producing at a similar rate to Cammy. Holland is a Geoffrion type of return, only a few years behind.

Holland is just another 3rd line type according to the experts,,which we have had so many over the years.

DD is not a number 1 center in this league. He is playing with too big, scoring wingers. Even Gomez might be doing decently between those two. DD is having a great year, but I don't think he is the key to that line. If you drop him with Bourque and Gionta, he will drop off considerably.

We need a true number one center. Then we can decide who between DD, Eller, and Pleks we should keep. One probably has to go. I might be tempted to trade DD for a scoring winger as I think his trade value is very high right now and I am not convinced he repeats this years performance (especially without Cole and Pacs). The other thing to keep in mind is that small guys like him tend to be very hot, then get broken down with the years faster then the bigger guys.

Now if we get a big number one center, then I could see DD and Pleks being our other centers, but this means Pleks is our 3rd line shutdown guy (which is would be fantastic at). I am not sure Pleks would settle for that.

DD is playing at a level that Gomez was suppose to be,salary or not. Eller, imo doesn't really have much trade value and his max value is a 3rd liner

  11. Keep calling people fanboys and crap all the time just because they try to feel positive... Ive got a good word for you... troll.

Positive ? About what. We've turned from the #1 organization in the league to an irrelevant laughingstock over the last 10-15 yrs.

Yeah, Price is definitely the problem

Not THE problem, but one of many. Though at the bottom of our problems. You don't think it's a problem that we can't get an adequate back-up because he can't handle it. Biron or Garon should be the backup.

  12. Ok,I'm going to feed the TROLL from the post above. Since Dec 1, we have 35 pts. CBJ has 32 pts. So yeah,I'd say we're definitely at their level . And we actually have a NHL goalie, unlike them. Amazing how people with no knowledge of the game keep posting how good/unlucky/better than our record we are.

  13. We can't really evaluate the Bourque trade until next year. We got a great return for Cammy, remember, he had 19 goals this year for 6 or 7 million and was on pace to produce even less this year. If a guy has a reputation to float, certainly being on the second worst team in the league reinforces that. He can also play the penalty kill, and is part of the habs-smurf makeover. This is probably the worst Canadiens team of all time, including the Rejean Houle years. Lost in all this is the fact that David Desharnais has emerged as a decent number 1 center. Seeing him play so well with two power forwards is why we're building the team up with bigger players. I think we're going to trade Plex and Beaulieu or Gallagher with a 2nd for James Van Riemsdyk. Then down the middle we'll have DD, Eller, Leblanc and White or another 4th line center.

That is anawful bunch down the middle. Don't hold your breath for Eller to emerge as anything other than a 3rd liner. White is a very good 4th liner. And we should be drafting a center with our top 3 pick. Pleks stays

    Disinterested or frustrated?

Probably a combo, this season has been just shit for him.

Just look at his wingers. i'm glad Cunny is interim

  14. when the heck did that punching bag purse stealing wussie earn to fight?

He could still beat the crap out of anyone on this team besides Staubitz and Moen. I'd rather see him on this team than Campy,Diaz or Weber.

I watch the Avs and live in Denver.

O'Byrne wasn't very good on the habs, he isn't very good for the Avs.

Plus minus is really bad on this team who scores a whopping ONE goal most nights. I'm surprised they anyone on the plus side.

I never said he was that good. But right now, neither is Emelin. He got treated like crap here, and every mistake he made was overemphasized.

  15. I was hoping to see a little effort from a guy trying to make an impression with a new team and raucous crowd. people thought the Gill trade was great because we got this guy as an add-on. He looks like a non- talented version of Bourque. Zero effort and jam. I'd rather see Enquit or palush.Or Darche. or even Gomez.

  16. far be it for anyone to disagree with you cause if you do you are a fanboy? grow up.

You spend all year 1st saying we're a contender, then saying we're a winning streak away from making the playoffs, and then finally saying"if we didn't have injuries, markov, when Gomez gets going,we're one year away blah, blah, blah. This team sucks right now because of the management and fanboys who support every move they make.We can't even get a friggin real back-up goalie because our #1 will crap out. And you tell me to grow up. learn the game, son

  17. Correct.

I have watched some Avs games this year and he is terrible.

Very immature fans. Why hate every ex-hab. it's lame and shows a blatant lack of class/knowledge.

    Emelin 2 3 5 -7 223 hits 74 bs

    O'b 1 5 6 0 154 116

And O'b will fight. Not great, but not bad.

  18. I'm guessing the Habs will try something really big this summer. They need to, both from a hockey and a business perspective. Look for them to develop an exit strategy for Gomer Pyle and open the vault for whoever the top UFA is. Like I said in another thread, we need a #1 C, a #1 D, and a top-line winger. These needs can probably only be addressed via a massive trade or a massive UFA signing.

I hope so because a team can nly have so many 3rd/4th liners, and 3rd pairing d-men. The major problem in this whole BG/PG regime is having players in positions they don't belong

    Pleks as #1 ctr

    Higgins 1st line lw

    Moen/Darche top 6

    Gorges top 2-3

And many more.Their fanboys will blame injuries, but that's the regimes fault again for acquiring too many small players and overpaid older players.

  19. i agree, i love DD's play and value and would hate to see moved, but i just see him and Plekanec as being 1 too many small centres; and DD and Weber could be a very inexpensive and attractive package for a young team.

DD is twice the player Eller is. Keep DD and Pleks. Eller may have some value in a package
