  1. And even then, I'm 100% sure that some will come up with "PG should have waited closer to deadline and try to create a bidding war".

Why would you defend PG ? Would you do that in public ? We've gone from final four to bottom four in two short years. This roster that he and BG built sucks. Anyone that knows anything about hockey knew that in September.

  2. How long is this team going to be continuously decimated by injuries. It's getting to be ridiculous. it seems since around the late 90's/early 2000 period, we just have had a consistnet run of reall bad injuries - some of those gruesome and some just on nothing plays.

I know all teams have injuries, but if you look at the lost games the habs have for injuries, every couple of years, its getting to be ridiculous.

I know, what a surprise that 5'10 creampuff dman gets hurt. Undersized, old and fragile players get hurt in this sport.

  3. Apparently you think the incredible Anthony Stewart would have been the key to avoiding all of these bad things. Ah well, it was a nice run of sensible postings while it lasted.

No,it would have been a needed upgrade.Every upgrade helps. Your opinion of my posts mean nothing to me btw

Players are getting into the nhl younger, seeing 18 or 19 year olds is becoming common place. Younger guys are putting more focus on conditioning and gaining size then ever before.

Not around here, since LL is the only player of the last 4 drafts that have played in the NHL. Talk about incompetence.

  4. PK improved when Gill got hurt near start of year and i dont agree he is a "key" component and is repalceable, Price/Gorges are the key ones. splittin hairs, but i would wager, there will be little difference with Gill gone and overall 5-0n-5 will be an improvment.

Not that i dont appreciate his effort and he will be a key PK addition to another team, but Habs defense and between the pipes will offset his loss for sure.

Gill is great(the best in league) on 5 on 3 pk,good on 5 on 4. But 5 on 5 he's just another stiff that we have to get rid of on our blue line.We need to bridge the gap for the next 2-3 yrs until some prospects are hopefully ready to come up. Keep PK,Gorges and Emelin,do anything possible to dump the rest and replace with big physical crease clearers.

  5. Pittsburgh:

    Kunitz-Malkin-Neal

    Cooke-Jeffrey-Dupuis

    Sullivan-O'Reilly-Kennedy

    Adams-Vitale-Park

    Orpik-Letang

    Martin-Michalek

    Niskanen-Engelland

    Fleury

    Montreal:

    Pacioretty-Desharnais-Cole

    Bourque-Plekanec-Kostitsyn

    Darche-Gomez-Eller

    Moen*-Leblanc

    Gorges-Subban

    Kaberle-Emelin

    Gill-Weber

    Campoli

    Price

(Moen is a game time decision, no word on which D would sit if he does play so I'm using the same lineup as last game.)

Puck drop is at 7:30 on RDS and TSN-Habs.

Why send Palushaj down if we don't have enough forwards. And A.Stewart clears waivers. But then again we have Darche so why bother. He'll be here next year also. . So sick of these piles of crap that masquerade as hockey management in Montreal.

  6. You wouldn't prematurely make the demotions unless you were absolutely certain you were getting the player (be it Stewart, Hamill, or Murray, the latter being my guess as to who they'd want to claim). As there are teams behind the Habs in the waiver priority, that certainty doesn't exist.

Now that all said, my Blunden guess is apparently out the window as he was just IR'ed. So it's either Moen or Nokelainen that are due back.

Even though Hamilton plays tomorrow, it's early enough that they could in theory pull someone up after the game and play them on the 4th line if they were anticipating something that didn't happen (a trade, waiver claim, or return from injury).

Maybe 8 dmen dreesing tonight ? Campoli and Weber on the 4th line. Not going to follow with" lol" because it actually could happen

  7. Personally I think he could get a secound but I am hoping that we can somehow send Gill with something extra to try to get Chris Stewart. Blues can use some D so why not try to make a deal there.

Gill, our 2nd (31-35th overall), and either Kristo,Weber or another pick/mid-prospect. And get his brother of waivers. Then we can work on rebuilding the defense

  8. He could just really love short Italians.

I forget his opnion on Cammy ;)

I like players that come up big in big games/playoffs.That's why I like Cammi and Halak so much, and don't care for AK at all,and Markov as much as others do.

Lafrous is on fire, having recently made a number of solid posts that refrain from personal attacks or wildly overblown negativity  The dream is alive!!

Actually I found the ignore button,so I won't get baited. I always took alot of dumb retaliatory penalties when I played, probably 90% of them. Not saying any of my attacks were dumb.

Do I detect something positive from Mr. lafrous10? There's hope for you...

To me,there's nothing positive from this season other than DD,Pacs,Cole and Emelin. On the positive side that's almost 20% of our team

  9. No need to sign.....just claim him. Always been a fan of his even though he never lived up to expectations. Like White he could play RW or Center. I think he may have been tried on the LW as well. Like he fact that he is a local kid. Would also love to get his brother out of St.Louis as well.

Serious question: do you think PG even knows(or cares) that he's on waivers,or knows anything about him?

  10. The idea of Georges as a 4th or 5TH man is ridiculous. How is he undersized? He is 6'1 and over 200 lbs! Georges is an EXCELLENT defencemen. He has proven this over the past few years and people really need to recognize this. He plays hard, blocks shots, makes great defensive plays with his stick tying up players infront of the net, gets people away from the net, good skating, not completely one dimensional, seriously. He is great. He is NO question top 4. If he was 5th on a team that would be ridiculously stacked. He is top pairing or a really really good second pairing guy.

#4 dman is 2nd pairing. He has more heart than any Hab. I really like him. Good, solid dman. But great? No.Not now,not ever. He will never make an allstar team. And 200 lbs is undersized for a defensive dman who goes into the "dirty" areas like he does.

  11. Just to play devil's advocate, the fact he was waived by the one team worse than Montreal in the East isn't ringing any alarm bells? On the surface, I agree he'd be a good 4th line fit based on his on-ice potential/qualities but the fact he wasn't qualified by Winnipeg and now waived by Carolina months later suggests there may be more than meets the eye here. Maybe they just want to try a youngster there instead, I don't know, but I think it's something that needs to be considered. (Also keep in mind that would be contract #50 out of 50 though moving one of the UFA's for a pick would offset that.)

True, but he has 6g 7 a and a +4 on the'Canes. He had 39 pts with Atl. last yr,cap hit of 900k,and a young hometown boy.If that's not worth taking a gamble on,especially the cap hit, then what is? Darche or Stewart? Nokie or Stewart.? Weber or Stewart for 4th line?

  12. When Markov returns he will be a great asset to the team, when talking about a rebuild his name needs to be included as a important piece, Gomez and Kaberle need to go. Markov has been injured but when he comes back will be a huge asset to the team, we aren't that far from being competative, we just have a couple bad contracts that should be moved and players that don't fit all that well. Get rid of Kaberle for a bigger d-man, Gomez to free up the cap space to sign a top player at some point. That with development of younger players and the return of Markov will completely change the results we have been getting.

I shouldn't respond to this, but: Kaberle is unmovable b/c of contract. And I'd love to get a big dman. Gomez even moreso. One of the worst contracts ever. Markov is done, imo.A Markie timeline

07-08 playoffs: subpar because of "bad back"

    08-09 playoffs: injured

09-10 45 reg season games, missed final 2 playoff rounds,we beat Pitt w/o him. And was outplayed by Gill/Gorges and Hamr vs. Wash

    10-11: played 7 games total

    11-12 games so far.

    Career playoff stats 49 games 3g 15 a 18 pts.

At some point you have to move on.

  13. No question. But this gets to an awkward issue. Everyone is assuming that Gill will be shipped at the deadline. That makes sense. But IF we believe that this team is better than it's shown in this disastrous season, and that only a handful of intelligent tweaks are really needed to bring us back to respectability - a position that many of us take - then does it actually make sense to let Gill walk? Wouldn't it be smarter to keep him around so that we retain our awesome PK as a building block for next season? Just asking

The question then is having a good enough, deep and durable defense to only play Gill pk duty and 5-10min/gm of 5 on 5.At this point,no.Pk and Emelin can handle 20+min/gm,Gorges can here and there, but would get worn out over the long haul + playoffs.IF Markov comes back, definitely no,and the rest are too small/bad

  14. 100%. We HAD an identity. We were a small, feisty team built around strong netminding, collapsing around the slot, a counter-punching attack, and special teams. This was a good formula that would have succeeded again had the players continued to buy in and had we been able to replace Wiz/Markov on the PP.

Instead, we fired the coach who insisted on this identity, got rid of one of its defining players in Cammy, and failed to address the PP problem. We are now stuck as an 'in-between' team, bigger but not big enough to scare anyone and skilled but not skilled enough, as you say.

It'll take the new GM/coach to figure out what kind of team we are going forward.

Note, in this context, that Gill is a HUGE part of our league-leading PK. With his impending departure our dominance in this area is likely to drop off somewhat, and with it the last surviving pillar of JM's mantra about 'special teams' being the key to success. The old formula was foolishly abandoned and is unlikely to be recoverable; so while the core of the team is likely to remain intact over the summer, we will need a completely new vision and game plan by next October.

IMO Gill is THE biggest factor in the PK. Much moreso than Moen. And for years he has been the best 5 on 3 pker

  15. It's an interesting perspective - that the core was basically fine but we went out and got the wrong complementary pieces. It'd be interesting to track the moderately-priced UFA options that have been available to the Habs over the past two years to see whether we really did systematically make the wrong moves. Of course, that a UFA was 'available' doesn't mean they would have signed with us; not does it mean we didn't try to get them. An interesting post nonetheless.

That's what i've thought for the past two years, even with the Gomez and Markov contract fiascos. And just imagine if we got those complimentary pieces AND had that $13m freed up. Oh well,at this point you can only dream what could have been, and it's why I am so pissed at mgmnt

  16. No need to sign.....just claim him. Always been a fan of his even though he never lived up to expectations. Like White he could play RW or Center. I think he may have been tried on the LW as well. Like he fact that he is a local kid. Would also love to get his brother out of St.Louis as well.

It's moves like those that coud really hasten a rebuild. Just need management to think the same way.And no more soft undersized dmen(Diaz,Weber,Campoli,Kaberle). Even Gorges is undersized, and would be a much better player as a #4/5.
