  1. I know what your trying to say, but you forget the most important fact..... They didn't have the cap space to keep them !!!!!! All you guys do it bitch about who left for nothing and look at stats with different teams and players and wonder what could have been, all while forgetting the reasons for it. Wake up people. *rant over*
  2. So it would be different for them? All it would be is the same money before moving McCabe
  3. There was more to it then that at the time... don't believe everything you read He will be fine in Montreal, he wouldn't have said so if he was unsure.
  4. Sounds good in theory, but all it takes is one loud, obnoxious GM with a crap load of cap space on a mission (enter Burke) and then your price has risen dramatically. The reason I chose Burke is not only because he has the space, but he also has a young Dman in the same mold who could learn from big Mike all while hurting a division rival. Not saying it will happen but it would be a double edge sword for the Habs
  5. We drafted Crosby's dad .... doesn't that entitle us to his seed as well?
  6. I never listed Weber or Maxwell as core players... I thought it was clearly marked Kronwall was a first round pick not after the first like you suggest.... You continue to talk in circles here. Tell Toronto Grabovski isn't one of their core players, or the Ilses with Streit; Ryder in Beantown or maybe Gainey when he talked about "our core players being mentioned in trades" when he talked about Plex and Higgins in the Lecavalier talks. Maybe you have this idea of "core players" built up to be something special but it isn't the case.... core guys are people you can replace by a call up or minor trades. What gold has Detroit "routinely" found in the last 7 that everyone should model themselves after?
  7. All this crap out now and the playoffs aren't even over yet. It's gonna be a Looooooooooooong ass summer.
  8. You must be an amazing scout shooting down so many players that have played limited or no games in the NHL yet. Others you left out are Lapierre, Latendresse, Weber, Maxwell, Grabovski. You seem to be the only one that thinks some of the habs players you list aren't core guys. Plex, Lapierre, Latendresse, Grabovski, Ryder and Streit are all core guys (a few just not our core guys now). The others you can't judge when they haven't played a game in the NHL yet.
  9. So in other words.... ha ha ha good one Marc, good one!
  10. 13 out of 64 drafted made the NHL is the basis of your arguement? Detroit wasn't docked draft picks by being so good, they traded them away. My points is if they are so good at finding "impact guys late in drafts" then why don't you recognize 51 of the names they drafted, and none that are late picks? The fact Montreal wasn't winning cups dictated why they didn't trade thier picks, but if you look at the players listed Montreal has more then held thier own when drafting late with guys like Plex, Halak, Streit (a bit different but hey) among others and may actually be better then the often inflated scouting team in Detroit.
  11. Waste of schooling all the way around. Teach more tech and sciences, and put a subsection in Greek Mythology for the religions of the world.
  12. They would be with 4-5 top 5 draft picks. As one of the teams biggest results critics would you "allow" them to be that bad for that long to get those players? Didn't think so
  13. There are so many factors that you left out in your post that I just don't have the energy to point them out. One of them is the fact that this post exists. People won't leave well enough alone and quit second guessing every little thing in the organization. I doesn't even matter if you knew the secret to a dynasty in 2 trades.... your not telling the GM or ownership here. hindsight is always perfect and the biggest critics never fail to use it when it fits their needs.
  14. In black and white..... from a distance..... with makeup and airbrushing...... and his mouth closed....... no way not even then. Maybe my inner "Mantractive" magnet has better taste (My god did I just say that?) Take into consideration that this is the best he can ever look..... Ricci was a product of his playing style... look at him in his draft year. Much better then. I always Thought Ricci looked like Geddy Lee (sp?)
  15. Ha ha ha. As for Matthias... he never played a single game for the Wings... all the Habs players played at least 1 game for the drafting club and that's why he was excluded.
  16. Knuble, Phalsson, and Ohlund would be the key guys from those players listed. I would still rather look at another Dman through trade first
  17. I know what your trying to say but using Lats is a bad example for two major reasons. Lats is a native of Montreal/Quebec and knows that you don't shit where you eat sort of speak. #2 Gui also had a baby last year with his fiance. It doesn't sound like much, but look what it did to Mikey Ribs... he grew up and matured really quickly. That's saying something considering he was a poster child for spoiled punks
  18. I voted Hartley because he fits the best after Robinson, Lemaire, and Burns, are not available.
  19. Thanks for the Kudos guys Look at the list... guy don't fall that far through the cracks, they get traded and suceed elsewhere ie.. Streit, Hainsey, Beauchemin etc etc. How many guys do you really recognize in those names?
  20. Your "bottom line" is skewed horribly. This is likely to be long, so bear with me . The draft isn't about "drafting players that can play ASAP" at all.... quite the opposite acually. The draft is about drafting the best player available through thier current progress and an imagined development curve. Sometimes they are ready to play right away but it isn't as common as you suggest (almost 300 players drafted every year and what, 10 played right away last year?) Part of the reasoning for the US/euro player being drafted are the rules regarding thier rights. US collegate and euro players have a much bigger window of signing before thier rights go back into the draft. Not only is this a good idea for development and not rushing players, but it is also a clever move in a cap world. As for the coulda/ woulda/ shoulda scenario that is being discussed, this can be done for every team. Everyone always mentions Detroit when talking about the draft and finding gems in late rounds. Well, I'm going to dispell that myth once and for all. Everyone knows that Datsyuk and Zetterberg were later picks that had a huge impact but that was years ago.... what have they done lately? Well..... since 2000 they have had 3 first round picks. 19th OA in 2005, 27th OA in 2007, and 29th OA in 2000 With those 3 picks they selected Kronwall (2000), Kindl (2005), and most recently Brendan Smith (2007). 21. He didn't lose the room per se.... he lost key players in the room that influence everybody on the team. Some still like him, while others would have helped him pack.
  22. Agreed. The playoff performance had nothing to do with Price. The team was just bad, if anything Price kept the games close. How many breakaways/2 on 1's did the Bruins have and not score on (the second period of game 4 alone) ?
