  1. While I disagree, I still think I could hear the whistle on the replay before Bonk hit the puck, we can't complain about the bench not asking for a review. A question about whether the puck was in or not before the whistle blew is not subject to video replay. The referee's decision is final in such a case. Here is the rule.
  2. Are you saying that the pollution in Windsor is worse than in Sudbury???
  3. I heard both Quinn and Julien complaining about the refs after last night's games. Julien said that he saw the puck in the net before the whistle on Bonk's disallowed goal. That's about all he said - that he was unhappy that the ref's blew the call. [i think it was clear on the replay that the whistle blew a quarter second before Bonk hit the puck. Although I think the refs got this call correct it was unfortunate that they blew the whistle when the puck wasn't frozen. However, when they lose sight of the puck and it looks like its under the goalie they are supposed to stop play.]. Quinn had a rant about the goal that was disallowed. He said that the game turned on that decision which he claimed was clearly wrong. He said that Eshe had put the puck into his own net by moving his whole body into the net when he was getting up and the refs had completely blown the call. [The replay clearly showed Eshe lying not moving a muscle and yet he slowly started sliding into the net with Tucker's stick pushing him along. He was in the net before he got up. I think the refs got this call correct although I was surprised since the puck did go into the net after the whistle and they went to video replay which doesn't take the whistle into account.] The big difference in my opionion is that Quinn seemed to be saying that the Leaf's 5-2 loss could be attributed to the disallowed goal. Or at least, that that call decided the game. Julien just seemed to be lamenting a bad call and complaining. To me this is an example of Quinn's bad coaching. He is telling the media, the fans and the players that the reason the Leafs lost was the refereeing. I think this hurts the Leafs. It gives the fans the feeling that things are not as bad with the team as they really are. More importantly, it gives the players an excuse for the loss and this decreases their motivation to improve. It also probably pisses off the refs. The only good thing (from the Leafs viewpoint) is that it may make the refs reluctant to make calls against the leafs but I am not sure how much this really affects refs.
  4. Leafs are spending lots of time on the PK - 7 minors so far. Finally Philly took 2 penalties late in the 2nd giving the Leafs a 5-3 advantage. During their 2 man advantage the Leafs gave up a 2 on 1 break and Richards scored to make it 2-1.
  5. ummm... i dunt care??? hahaha i rather care about the boston vs pittsburgh game~~~ just WISH pittsburgh some luck so they can FINALLY win their FIRST game this season... and kick the butt of those big bad bruins for us haha Could the Bruins really finish last in the divsion. I know it is very early in the season and Thornton has missed a number if games but Buffalo has really played well and I think the Leafs may be better than the Bruins.
  6. I was *really* impressed with Kovalev in the 1st. He is working hard especially defensively. No sign floating - just the opposite.
  7. I think this is a very important period coming up. It seems every game so far we completely dominate for 2 of the 3 periods and are horrible in the other period. We need to give it all for 60 minutes. :ghg:
  8. It seems everyone here wants to trade Ribeiro. His 68 points from the last season are worth remembering. He has been struggling so far but we are only 7 games into the new hockey. Also, he has played a lot with Dagenais who isn't helping. I think we need to give Ribeiro time to adjust. He has the skills to excel if he can put it all together and I don't think we will get much if we trade him. I say wait and see what Julien can do to egt him back on track.
  9. I think this means we must be showcasing him for some other team. Can't bench him if we are trying to convince them he is worth trading for.
  10. Bob McKenzie reported that the league sent Chara a warning letter about throwing punches after the players had been separated and while they were being held by the linesmen. [edit for spelling] [Edited on 2005/10/12 by Peter Puck]
  11. I thought this was advice on how to get enough money to afford cable TV and a Centre Ice package. Or maybe a place to meet a rich girl?
  12. You mean Bochenski and not Rucinsky right? I hope so, because 2 Rucinsky's in the NHL is a scary scary thought... so much lazyiness... Whoops some kind of Freudian slip there. Yes, I meant Bochenski. Or maybe I was also predicting a trade tomorrow? :eyes:
  13. Since Ottawa is playing tonight they should be a little tired in the game against the Habs . Since I never predict Habs loss here is my prediction: Sens score in the final minute (Spezza) when they pull Emery to tie the game 4-4. Habs win in the shootout. :can: Goals during the game by: Perezhogen, Bullis, Kovalev and Markov. First 3 Ottawa goals: Heatley, Rucinkski, Alfredson.
  14. I'm not sure I understand why the title of this thread contains the word "already". As far as I can see from the leaf's lineup and prospects, Leaf Nation surely should have started panicking in the summer of 2003 if not earlier.
  15. While it is true that the CBC loses money, Hockey Night in Canada is very profitable and a not insignificant amount of this profit can be traced directly to Don Cherry. Many people only watch the first intermission - they don't even bother to watch most games. This is the reason Cherry is still on the air and why he is paid a large salary. If you want the CBC to be run like a corporation, you can't really complain that they put Cherry on the air. Similarly, if you feel the CBC is a "money pit", you can't complain about Cherry; he is reducing the overall cost of the CBC. Hi Peter Puck, I had written this in an older post and pasted it here again. Seems like we have to rehash the CBC flaw. I can complain and so should you because we do not get value for our money. How much CBC do you watch per month and is it good value for your tax dollar. I know not everyone here will agree on the value of the CBC, I just get annoyed at the polital hacks that get appointed to run CBC and bring in their own crooks as execs. They extort our money out of our pockets and force don cherry, and hockey night in Toronto on us and say they are supporting Canada. NHL does not make the CBC profitable. (See Post Below) Not saying you are wrong to like the CBC, but the facts are the CBC cannot make money and gets heavy subsities. Also keep in mind that it is the same "Hacks" that say HNIC and Don Cherry is profitable. How much are the subsities to run the show and the endless CBC advertising for hockey? Previously Posted Before: How deep in our pockets do the government agencies go to take our money and produce crap on this station, like the Maple Leaf Hockey team? Here's what happens (It shocked me) An hour of premium canadian programming costs $1million. Canadian broadcasers pay licence fee of $200,000-$250,000 per hour while taking in $65,000-$95,000 dollars. In the French Canadian market it is 5 times more expensive to produce Canadian content then to import and translate American programming. Canadian producers recover their costs through (Your tax dollars in Large Letters) PUBLIC SUBSITIES and foreign sales. Up to 60% comes from public sources like broadcast fees, the CANADIAN TELEVISION FUND, TAX CREDITS, PROVINCIAL FILM COMMISIONS, and CRTC mandated private funds. Now that my tax dollars are used on a channel that I do not watch, I have to PAY to get RDS in my home town in order to watch the most glorius hockey team ever created. Hey I had to back up my point in the CBC flaw. This stuff is all available on http://www.cbc.radio-canada.ca Open the markets, forget provincial blackouts and dump CBC. Hi Howie, I love your new avitar. Regarding the CBC, everyone has his own opinion. Note that you cannot expect to get your tax money worth on everything the government spends money on. I agree that you are forced to pay taxes some of which go to the CBC. Remember though that some people have no cars and they pay taxes for highway construction, some people don't want a military and they pay taxes which support our armed forces, the government subsidizes many businesses whose products I don't buy, the govenment is giving children immunization shots and I have no kids, etc. I really wanted to just comment on your HNIC and Don Cherry remarks. The fact remains that HNIC is very profitable - HNIC like all live sports is much cheaper to produce then most other programs. HNIC takes in a great deal of money in advertising revenue, especially during the playoff season. Without hockey last year the CBC took in considerably less money last year. I also think it is indisputable that Coach's Corner is a big draw and one of the reasons HNIC attracts so many advertisers. Perhaps this buffoon should not be on the air, but if this is so, it is not for financial reasons. [edit for grammar] [Edited on 2005/10/10 by Peter Puck]

  17. I admit I scoffed when Fozzy/shortcat1 made this prediction in September. I apologize for not having enough faith.
  18. I just heard Quinn on TSN say that the puck missed Sundin's eye and the injury is not serious. He says Sundin will only have to wait for swelling to go down so that he can see normally.
  19. Wow my tv feed must be slow. There are 12 minutes left according to it.
  20. Did you see any games at the Gardens? I lived in Boston for 5 years and saw the Canadiens eliminate the Bruins in the first round in 86. In the final game of the series the Canadiens entered the 3rd down 2-0. We scored 3 goals including the 3rd with about 5 minutes to go in the game. The fans went wild. The booed for the last 5 minutes of the game. I never saw anything like it. Needless to say the Bruins were unable to mount any attack during those 5 minutes.
  21. Gord Kluzak claims it was an "attempted penalty" by Fitzgerald not a "penalty" Hahaha
  22. Some Bruins announcers are whining about the refs caaling 2 penalties against the Bruins at the end of the game.
