1. More news today that the Penguins are closer to being sold and moved. Sooo... Mr. Gillett, please buy the Penguins, bring them to Montreal and sell the load of cr@p that takes the ice evernight to some investors in KC. Please. Please. Thanks, TMD.
2. No real surprises here ... http://www.canadiens.com/eng/news/redirect...newsItemID=5155
3. I agree. I've used both of those frequently. Although, naming them after a sh!tty beer is also good.
4. Groan. Maybe they should call the habs side the "Bull Puppies" :puke:
5. Are they calling the leafs the "Baby Bugs"? Where does that come from?
6. AS went to the pens because there is huge growth opportunity there. I can't see Therrien lasting more than 2 months (He'll bench either/both Sid and Malky for being too soft and get his ass chased/kicked out of town). Who better to take over than a guy with a record of developing young players. In Mtl, AS was stuck in a position where 5 or 6 guys will get credit for the team's success ahead of him. In Pitts, he'll be the head coach by December.
7. He was a RFA not a UFA last August. He was a RFA this year until Buffalo decided not to accept the arbitrators ruling. So this was his first chance to join the habs. Dumont is however simply a role player (granted he played his role very well in Bufalo). I'm guess that Dumont is looking for a long term deal and BG won't commit to more that a year or 2 for this type of player. The demand for these type of guys will go down over the next few years as teams pay their top players (the guys that sell tickets) huge salaries and don't have the budget for $2-3M role players. I'm sure Gainey sees this trend and is unwilling to commit to a guy like this. -tmd
8. Worst trade ever ... Sylvain Turgeon for Claude Lemieux Nothing against Turgeon or post-op transexuals .... but that trade was like the Habs voluntarily castrating themselves. Best trade ever ... Russ Courtnall for John Kordic - tmd
9. That's great! This is what summer posts should be all about. I'd much rather see people sharing crazy habs nostalgia than floating stupid trade rumors.
10. Trade Ryder even up for Gagne. Solve two teams RFA problems at once. Gagne is more established, but Ryder is younger (and cheaper for cap challenged philly).
11. I've alway felt that the Devils were more like the Habs Southern Edition. They've had a lot of players and staff with connections to the habs over the past 15 years. Probably why they've always worked hard in those games against the Habs. Regarding the Devil's intro'ing the trap, didn't Lemaire bring the trap to the Devils after developing it with the Habs? Their employing the trap was also a reaction to the state of the league in general. The league expended too quickly, there was a serious lack of offensive talent around the league. The Devils had an average roster, yet they found a very effective strategy that bought them huge success. I've also always respected that at the end of the '83-'84 season, they didn't tank it to "win" Mario Lemieux. They told their players that they didn't want to be labled the worst team in the league, and to play hard. 20 years later, the Devils have a great team attitude and 3 cups. The penguins have Mario and only 2. Finally, how could you dislike any team that featured Claude Lemieux, that guy was always entertaining to watch. I bleed the Bleu, Blanc et Rouge, but the Devils are cool too.
12. I thought there are technically 2 C's in the logo (a red one and a white one), along with the white H. To give us Le Club de Hockey Canadien. [Edited on 2005/11/10 by TheMaxDaddy]
13. TSN claims this is to allow them to activate Cristobal Huet .
14. Gagne scored a hat tonight. He is now on pace to pocket 103 goals this year. These new rules are sure benefiting the fast/skilled players. Image if Gretz was still playing. Anyway, I hate the Flyers  and I'm hoping that pointing out he's on pace to smash the great one's record will Jinx him. Jinx. Jinx. Jinx. :D:D:D:D:D:D:D But let's think positive: I believe he's a UFA next summer and the Flyer have little cap room. Maybe he'd like to play in his home province. :D:D:D:D:D:D:D
15. This is the craziest thing i've ever read. I checked the calendar, it's not April 1st. http://www.tsn.ca/nhl/news_story/?ID=14175...753&hubname=nhl
16. ESPN's latest power has the habs at 5th and the Preds at #3. TSN somehow has the 8-1-1 preds at #11. I can't believe that an American media org has a better understanding of hockey then a Canadian org. Then again, maybe TSN is just prejudice against Quebec and American cities that they can't locate on a map.
17. I think the reason the system got all f-ed up is that the league was trying to achieve dual goals. They wanted a system that encourged teams to try to win games in regulation, but they also wanted shoot-outs ('cuz the fans like them). They must have realized that the goals were mutually exclusive and gone for the shoot-out, because the system they went with actually discourages team from risking it when the game is tied late in the third. I have the perfect system. If a game is tied at the end of regulation, there is a 5 minute OT, just like now, but the visiting team gets one less skater. This will make the fans happy (at least the fans at the arena) because they are more likely to see their team win. This will encourage teams to end it before OT (at least the visiting team) so it will make the end of close games more exciting. Finally, to achieve the goal of always having a winner, if the home team fails to score on their 5 minute power play, the visiting team wins.
18. Maybe they only count the 88 years that the Habs have been kicking the crap out of the Leafs.
19. Wow. Thanks for all the effort on this. Way to 'collaberate' in not being able to 'corroborate' this story. Just goes to show how much those idiots at TSN suck. I notice they have corrected the comment about Bonk. It now says he'll be playing his first game at the Corel Center as a habs.
20. Is this some more TSN BS? According to this article: http://www.tsn.ca/nhl/news_story/?ID=14105...056&hubname=nhl the Habs 7-2 record is their best start to a season ever. Here's the excerpt: "While Ottawa looks to rebound, Montreal is hoping to improve on the best start in the team's 88-year history. The Canadiens improved to 7-2 with their third straight win, 3-2 in overtime over Philadelphia on Tuesday." Can anyone on this board collaborate this? Given all the success the team has had over the years, it's seem incredible to me that this is their best start ever.
21. Bettman couldn't give a crap about any team in Canada succeeding. If we want to talk about conspiracy to help certain teams, how about those division leading Rangers?
22. He is an islander, he's just not an Islander. And everyone I know that's left "The Island", has never wanted to go back. So, even if that other islander, Mr. Komisarek, grew up a fan of the local team (he was 2 when they last won the cup - wow I'm old), he's probably in no rush to be traded "home". -tmd.
