  1. Commandant, I think you swung for the fences, and hit a grand slam with this. I even believe the team could look classy replacing RC. My second favorite sport is Formula 1, my childhood hero was Gilles Villeneuve. I won't bore everyone with the details. But Michael Schumacher was injured, and he was replaced by Mika Salo. While leading, Mika was asked to slow for the other Ferrari of Eddie Irvine. To repay Mika for his this gesture, he was basically offered a life time contract, to race any Ferrari, in any class of racing. So, if RC get's replaced, you go on record, thanking him, and saying he will always have a job in hockey with this team. I'm at the point where if you can't beat them, join them. Both coaches in last years finals were francophones. Scotty freaking Bowman said the coach should be able to communicate in French. Might as well not get stressed about it. And get a winner like Patrick Roy involved.

  2. The post is more a criticism of the whole way the team handicapped Cunneyworth and didn't give him a real chance wit the team on the day he took over than it is about Martin.

Martin was fired, fine... but the timing of the actual firing, and the press release from Molson the next day, gave Cunneyworth zero chance from day 1.

Put him into a long road trip with games every other day.... then christmas break... then more road games, before he could even come back to montreal and have two days of practice.

Very true. Scotty Bowman said it gave the players a crutch. And give any player one, and he'll use it.
  3. This trade get's better the more I think of it. We gave Cammi 6 million the summer after he scored 39 goals, playing with a hall of famer named Iginla. That happens to be his best ever year. We were hoping he'd become a 40 goal man, he didn't. In a salary cap world, you can't pay 25 goal scorers who are a career -27 that kind of money. In Bourque, we get a player who recently has scored more, while being a plus player, and makes half as much. The key now is what we do with that money. One other thing. The general thought was that most players were happy on the flight home from Boston that he's gone, says the reporters that cover the team. That point was made even clearer when questions about Cammi were answered with "no comments".

  4. Cammy came here because of Gomez he said so himself I believe.

Gomez here makes it easier for big names to come in because they know how much he makes and how much heat comes with it.

That is complete bs. He signed here because nobody offered him 30 million. When a microphone is in your face, you don't say the reason I signed here is because my accountant told me. Now that he's gone, we can throw that argument out.
  5. Yep and I can't see either of them wanting to resign with Montreal. Honestly, given the way PG has managed this team, i really can't see too many UFA's wanting to come here. We have become the devils that Gretzky called a mickey mouse organization, before the devils tried to emulate the habs.

That's a load hab29. We overpaid Cammi and Gionta to sign here. Sure, we had to. But in the future, we'll continue to do so. Do you see a time when we have cap space, and nobody to spend it on?
  6. His one talent is scoring goals... a pretty damn good talent to have on the roster, and one that every hockey team needs. For a team that doesn't score enough goals, trading a player with this talent, at his lowest possible value, isn't a good thing.

I suppose this is a debatable stat, but, Cammi is a career -27. Which suggests what we already know. If the "streaky" scorer isn't scoring, he's useless. Local radio says Bourque is +10 career.
  7. Bourque really didn't seem as enthusiastic coming here as Cammy seemed going back to Calgary.

Dude, I read your every word, and appreciate the fire in your posts. But c'mon. We weren't getting Corey Perry or Steven Stamkos. So now he doesn't look happy to be traded here? Oh well, we suck. Also, Francois Gagnon thinks more players on the return flight home were happy than sad he's gonzo.
  8. What a bizarre season so far. The Pearn firing, the game day/before Xmas Martin firing, and now this during the game trade. It's not that I have a problem with any of the moves in hockey terms. But, the organization looks bad. The Toronto media types are just loving this. I hope that second round pick and additional cap space can be flipped for something good, and make this a Philly style rebuild on the fly. All I ask is that whatever happens next, can it be done with some class? I mean, act like you've been there before Mr. Gauthier, and more importantly, Mr. Molson.

  9. Well, I'm calming down a little.

We get a 25+ goal-scorer (presumably) with size and a desirable viciousness, a 2nd-round pick in a deep draft, the 9th overall scorer in the WHL, AND $3 million to play with annually. Yeah, we could gotten more, but the latter three elements *are* arguably the sorts of ingredients that characterize a 'retool for the future' kind of deal. In principle, and on reflection, this turns out to be exactly the sort of trade that most fans on this site have clamoured for all season: 'save cap space, get bigger, get young assets, move under-performing duds.'

A sour response is, I think, still appropriate. But patience is also called for here as the full implications will take a while to unfold. Meanwhile, more is to come in terms of dumping bloated contracts - I hope. Great post, and Bob Mackenzie agrees with you, it's as if he copied your thoughts on his TSN blog

  10. Don't call out the team when YOU suck. I'm no coach, but when you cross the blue line into the opposing zone, any system or mentality get's forgotten. You head for the net, use any creativity and skill you've got, and try to score. That's it. If he had 18 goals, and was working hard, then he could talk about what we ALL feel, about that playing not to lose stuff. The stuff that got Martin's ass fired. So now what? He get's traded? That would be 4th team by the age of 29. We overpaid him to sign here, that's right, overpaid. Keep your trap shut, and do your job.

  11. Bar, you are too nice.

I blame the players. they are awfull. I guess a quick winless week should get the ball moving on more trades.

Pleks another outstanding evening, minus 2. minus 15 in his last 20 games ouch!

the entire defense was incredibly bad as well.

one day closer to the fire burning sale.

In my opinion, there won't be a fire burning sale. That's just not how this organization operates. That theory only exists on a website like this. Sure, they might dump a useless player with an expiring contract, like Campoli. But that's about it. I really expected more from this team last night. I thought they'd at least get a loser point.
  12. Ok, no trading away of young assets, but I want the team to go as hard as possible to make playoffs. We took the champs to game seven OT last year, and I believe we're better with Cole. What if we face the Rangers? If I recall, doesn't Lundqvist have ordinary numbers against us? The point is to get in, once you're in, anything can happen. Thankfully, I believe the organization thinks this way. You start to sound like Leaf fans, when you suggest that the only way to improve is to suck. That's not an exact science.

  13. Thanks for that Commandant!!! I especially love the line about warning boats on the St. Lawrence with that pathetic head gear light deal. The small gathering they had ended peacefully, and they all left in the same taxi. Even RDS noted that the Quebec flags handed out were barely visible in the Bell Center. I'd "prefer" that the coach speak some French, just like I want Lecavalier, St. Louis, and Briere as out first line. That's not about to happen. OMG, I've become the biggest Cunneyworth fan in Canada. Just to prove these scrubs wrong.

  14. Getzlaf is a cup winner

    Right handed centre

Pretty much a point a game player

    6 foot 4 220 lbs

When healthy plays scores 25 +

Sorry guys like this are in very limited supply.

We know all that. He's still never scored more than 25 in his career. The point is, the proposed deal is too much for my liking. And has nothing to do with over rating.
