I'm looking forward to tonights game. Let's see if the RC approach continues. Glass half full would say the team is driving to the net more, and sitting back less. The schedule is favorable this month, let's keep er going!!
-
Ya, not much of a story. Kinda silly it was even looked at.
-
I'm ok with comments on the Halak trade, after a great game by Eller. If you recall, some people seemed to think we could have selected any player we wished from the Blues roster. It was insanity.
-
We can debate Bob Gainey for the next 6 months. But personally I don't want him anywhere near this team. And I hope he has zero say in how this team moves forward.Maybe Gainey could go behind the bench as a figurehead who runs some aspect of the play and have him sit with Randy during pressers. That's how ridiculous this whole situation is, I can suggest something totally crazy that would never happen but just might under these current wacko circumstances.
-
I've said it before, and I'll say it again. I was hoping Guy Carbonneau would be our version of Lindy Ruff, and coach the team for the next ten years. Ok, that didn't work. Bringing him back seems ridiculous. Does he even get interviews for other coaching jobs? He doesn't appear to be motivated. I'm not saying Patrick Roy should get the job, but at least he's out there, riding the bus, actually coaching.
-
It's a fair amount, in my opinion. Let's not forget that we have to overpay slightly, as we're the highest taxed jurisdiction in North America. Cammalleri and Gionta were also overpaid.
-
That's all she wrote boys and girls. We're not climbing back into 8th. It hurts, but why should we care, when the players don't?
-
I too liked Kostopoulos. My wife is Greek, er, no truth to the rumors about backdoor shenanigans. He always gave it his all, even if he often became a speed bag in a fight.
-
I'm really pulling for RC now. What was he supposed to do? Refuse the offer to coach the team because of language? I hope all that garbage slows down, and that we get to see what he can do as head coach. Not a single person on here can comment on his abilities yet, let's hope he surprises us.

What an odd debate. The Jacques Martin fan club can meet in a phone booth. And that seems to include his actual players.
-
If we're talking fire Gauthier, Scotty Bowman just had some nice things to say about Pierre McGuire. I know some around here would like to see him get a chance. He said that Pierre's done a great job in the media, but he's more of a hockey guy, than a media type.
-
Scotty Bowman was just on local radio, stayed in the car just to listen. Two points that I thought I'd relay. He said it looks like the players have a crutch to use now, the coaching language stuff. And if they have a crutch they'll use it. It's RC's job to remove it. Also, any coach in this market should have a working knowledge of some French. He did. But it wasn't in a bury Cunneyworth way. Larry Cariere could be used to assist in French language media duties.
-
If Martin is a good coach, and I believe he is, he'll get another chance. And his couple of fans can cheer for him then. Sadly, the players seen to have decided. That's the way the cookie crumbles.
-
And this week, we lost by 1 goal to the Champs, and were in the Chicago game through 2 periods. Cunneyworth needs time. Seems we might have even more problems anyway.Martin got a point against the Stanley Cup finalists and lost by one goal to what was then the hottest team in Hockey in Philadelphia, who was first in the East and had won 7 in a row at the time.
At no point was Martin ever blown out by 4 goals, never mind back to back nights.
And the only time his team went 0-5-0 was in October 2009
There is no way you can tell me we haven't played worse this week than we have all season.
-
I like this line of thinking. We can't just let AK walk. Plus if he get's traded, it'll be fun to read hab29 have a cow.
-
Martin had to go, I'm surprised some are still debating it. He's gone, and it's not because he's a bad coach. It's just the way it works in North American pro sports. I suppose be careful what you wished for comments will continue for a few weeks. I never wished it, but have no problem with it.

BTH!!!! The voice of reason regarding any possible rift in the dressing room.
-
Is that true? If so, I'm happy you cleared that up. I'm not seeing a reason to fire Gauthier.Kaberle and a 2nd was offered to Columbus for Brassard.
It was not offered for Spacek.
If Rutherford ever offered Kaberle and a 2nd, he was looking for a real asset back... not a 38 year old D whose body appears to be breaking down.

This week looks bad so far. But let's face it, we lost to the champs by one goal, and were in the game last night through the first two periods. The Hawks look primed to go deep in the playoffs, maybe even into the finals vs the Bruins. Last nights 2 empty netters make this look worse. I hate the word confidence, I laugh when people try and get into the head of a pro athlete from what they see on tv. But that word is being used a lot to describe the lack of scoring and missed opportunities. That wide open net that Pacioretty couldn't hit would have tied the game at 2.

Colin...The people here in QC that have a problem with the English coach, are blissfully unaware that people in the rest of Canada may be laughing at them . They simply don't care. Many of these same people don't even feel Canadian. Many of these same people placed a separatist party as the official opposition in Ottawa. That's just the way it is. You know how the Leafs are the darlings of the CBC? Well, many here don't watch that network. And to them the Leafs are a crappy team that never wins anything. On the flip side, a lot of this is media driven. Just like referendum results. Many francophones voted no, and many francophones just want to win.

Jacques Martin was fired for a damn good reason. The reason why most coaches are fired in pro sports. The message wasn't working, CHANGE it. When people suggest that Gauthier had no good replacement options, they have no clue what they're talking about. No clue. A perfect example is Claude Julien. The Habs took the champs to OT in game seven. Had we won that game, Julien may have been fired. Often it can be said that a "good" coach is opportunistic, lucky, and in the right place at the right time. Like I posted earlier, Cunneyworth is starting to implement his style. It also looks like he's a better communicator. He was a hard working player, not far removed from the game, that could help. Let's give this new coach a chance. And let's get off Gauthier's back. I love the Cole signing. I had high hopes for Blair Betts, too bad he was injured. Wiz was great last year. This team in not in complete disarray like some are suggesting. Like firing the GM would tell the world.
-
Had a chance to hear Dany Dube tonight on the radio, who's of course, with the team in Chicago. Seems like a lot of positive stuff happening. It takes time to implement a new system, but so far the players like it. Mathieu Darche said it was more enjoyable to play. It's a roll 4 lines, up tempo, more aggressive style. You can be sure that Cunneyworth is going to work his ass off, and try to succeed. Even if it's only an interim gig.

Vincent Damphousse with the opinion that an anglophone coach isn't the end of the world. Alain Crete, the host seemed uncomfortable with that haha.
-
As usual, the Cucumber brings up a good point. Let's face it, Geoff Molson, is, er, a Molson! I seriously doubt he revolutionized the selling of BEER. Where'd he get the money to buy the team? The answer is obvious. And today he comes out with the next coach must be bilingual. Which we all knew was going to happen anyway.

Has zero to do with over rating players. Getzlaf is a good player, 25 goal man so far in his career. Pacioretty and Cammalleri should combine for 50 minimum. And the suggestion includes a 1st rounder? It's not Corey Perry being discussed.
