  1. My favourite memories coincide with Mats as well. I remember watching tv on my knees in the living room to watch the home opener of I the 82-83 season. All I remember were the player introductions and out skated number 26 with the name Mats Naslund at the bottom of the tv screen. I remember telling my dad, "that's my favourite player". I later remember being sent to bed after the first period, I was 9 years old. My first game ever live... 85-86 season at the forum... Montreal vs. Hartford. My grandfather got some tickets through a friend of a friend... anyhow, we ended up getting corner seats, 10 rows or so from the ice. Mike Liut was in net, ended up hurting his groin in the warm up but stayed on in net for Hartford. Mats Naslund scores on a break away. I don't remember how, I was trying to get a good look at his face. I heard the pop of the puck hitting that back of the net and seeing my favourite player pumpernickel only feet away from me. Childlike euphoria! Enough to bring me to tears. I think it ended up 5-0 Montreal. 85-86 final game against Calgary... the game just ended and camera shot of Mats giving a huge punch in the shoulder to Brian Skrudland while celebrating the cup win on the bench. Ok I'm done. Thanks for giving me a chance to reminisce. :hlogo:
  2. sit experience?... when it is counted on most during this very crucial time. NICE! Man... I'm not going to bother wasting anymore of my time on this one. The floor is yours, CB habs fan
  3. What a post!!!...not bad for a washed up flat footed old timer. We could still use a guy like you around here! If ever we had a hall of fame on this sight, you'd be at the top of my voting list... Good to see you back.
  4. I agree!... perhaps even my perspective on this will have changed.
  5. I agree that his coaching antics are irrelevent to this discussion,... never entered my mind. You are right, Sundin may have hurt his team by not allowing himself to be traded...hmm that could be the same thing Roy did only in the opposite... maybe my argument has been nulified. If they do hang his jersey, good for him... I'll still look at it and wince a bit. As always BTH keep up the great posts,... you rock!
  6. I have to disagree with you BTH... sure he's won a couple of cups for Montreal... I'm not about to give him entire credit for either of them. The team won in '85 and '93... I'd retire Mats Sundin's number before Roy's... he chose the team over himself at this year's trade dealine. Mr. Roy did not when he lost it that night running from the organization... If he had truly wanted to stay with the team he would have acted professionally and tried to work things out. I do think it would make a statement to any of the up and comers who may one day have the priviledge to have his number retired that commitment to the organization is very very important. :hlogo:
  7. My thoughts are on him.... I'll be attending the game. I want to send him a couple of white roses. It will be a bittersweet night for him... I feel. Congrats Bob, my heart is with you and your family. I'll be chearing loud. mats
  8. Don't you guys start!.... You are all digging for reasons to boo this guy again. You want to make him a scapegoat. I for one do not agree with the way you are interpreting this so called stat. To blame one person for a poor record while in a lineup is as good as hearsay. Go find someone else to piss on... leave him and any other Habs on this team alone. I heard the boos already on him and makes me sick. @#%@#$!!! go and boo the leafs or any other team for that matter... it would be alot more productive than calling out guys on our team.
  9. Don't want to touch this player.... playoffs performance non existent. period!
  10. I could have simply written this on the game thread but I thought it warranted a thread of its own. It was good to hear them talking in a positive manner about the team. Even finding positive things to say about the mistakes some of the players made. I know the habs are winning of late could be a reason why the are staying positive. To be honest I think more is going on than just that. I'll give credit where it is due... Good job Pierre et Yvon. Most enjoyable commenting on game I've heard in a while. Bravo!
  11. Congratulations, to Guy Lafleur... another useless commentary. Lafleur's remarks are of no value in my opinion. Yes he is still acknowledge as one of the team's ambassadors. His face is what is important nowadays to the Habs not his mouth. Brutal! Congrats RDS on giving me another reason to give up cable tv.
  12. I'm all in!!!... I don't find you funny. I side with Beliveau. Your tirade is a bad comedy at best... but you are entitled to your opinions.
  13. I hope that this is not true. He was my favorite player... almost got a new jersey to substitute #26 for Perezhogin's number. If any of what you are saying is true... I'll be terribly sad. Welcome to the board... sniff, sniff. :?-
  14. Johnson would make my team. He and Bonk both would be players I'd like to keep. Kovalev is also included on my roster of Montreal Canadiens. :hlogo:
  15. Hey Bobby, Are you in any way related to 'Beckham'? Posters who have been on this site would know what I'm talking about. In fact, I'm just about ready to call you out. I've enjoyed reading your stuff, keep up the great work. I'm a fan! MNSF
  16. I'm with you all the way. I hope Pierre and Yvon lay it on thick for the Canadiens 'STI! . Go Habs Go!!!!
  17. Naslund - Mondou - Tremblay Robinson - Langway Roy
  18. Montreal 5 - Penguins 2 Our goaltender will be 2nd star of the game. First star goes to Koivu.
  19. There's alot that I want to say in regards to your post. I'll keep most of my thoughts to myself. I guess maybe I deserve a little bit of a rub after the comment I made in response to your initial post. What I will say is that I'm tired of reading your crap... doesn't surprise me that you've made those comments. Congratulations Bacchus you've just shown yourself to be one of those LIONS of WINTER I was talking about. You can have the last word... I won't be reading.
  20. Interesting name for a thread. Lions of Winter could be a term used for the most of us on this site who pounced and just about mamed the entire Habs squad in there recent losing skid. :puke: :puke: :puke: Its nice to read your positive post. Thank you Athletique! As for Bacchus comments on the fact there are tests to come... blah blah blah blah. This team has already proven that its a winner all year long. Despite the skid in January and half the team missing because of injury this team is finding a way to win again. They remain well in a position to make the playoffs.
  21. B)--> QUOTE(B @ Feb 16 2007, 03:46 PM) 185881[/snapback] It seems to me if Bob does make a trade, he gambles with the team's confidence. Souray said no one player is going to save this team. With this in mind, how would team psychology be affected by a big trade? I dunno guys, I think Bob's got to stay the course with the guys he's got. Just a thought. B'OH Wow!... fantastic thought. If it is the case than I'm all for no action at the trade deadline. I believe in the group of players that we have at present. ,... a refreshing perspective, thank you 'B'OH"
  22. I wonder what was said in the meeting. I guess I was wrong about him being fired. I've decided not to speculate anymore. Hope things are straightened out.
  23. I remember Gainey's speech at the end of last season. He announced to the press that he had no interest in a player who did not want to play here or if playing in Montreal was too SPICY for them. These events just back up his statement. In my opinion, Samsonov is no longer a Montreal Canadien. He will not be showing up in Hamilton. He has officially been fired.
  24. oh what difference a year makes. This guy is doing extremely well... so what do all who wrote off the Streit experiment last year have to say now. Congratulations to Gainey and his think tank. I'm enjoying watching this guy.
