I haven't seen the stats comparing their defensive ability and haven't seen enough lightening games, but articles like this have me worried:

    http://www.tampabay.com/sports/hockey/lightning/why-lightning-fans-wont-lose-sleep-over-drouin-trade-to-montreal/2327453

do we have a GM that is doing what is necessary to win, or just fill the roster with his image of what a good player should be?  What's baffling is that Drouin seems to be the same player as Galchenyuk- although galchenyuk has never walked out on his team.  Is this deal made by a desperate GM trying to save his job and the best way is to bring in a local boy?

Well I think it is a pretty good trade on it's face. We THINK the sergy will be great, we don't know that he will. We needed offence and Drouin will supply. What does bother me is if Mark down Mark in his wisdom trades Galch, then I am pissed off. We need them both. He is good at finding defence then go  find some dammit. Do not trade Galch, not now. Unless Sid or Malkin are available, then go ahead.

Commandant is right that all we have to do is not protect Shaw, but is MB really going to expose his big free agent acquisition? That's the question. More likely Byron is gonzo.

Expansion draft issues aside, I like the trade. Sergachev is a great future asset, and would have been a real key to our D-corps in 2-3 years, but that's the point. This team is ALL IN, right now. It has to win within its 3-4 year window. Drouin helps to address the most glaring weakness - scoring.

That's looking at the team as it is right now. This trade makes us significantly better. The question is whether this now means that Galy is gone. It doesn't have to mean that, since Galy can be used at C, eliminating the 'problem' of all those good scoring wingers. But it probably does. In which case, this trade won't boost our offence as much as it might have had we kept Galy (we'd basically be swapping Galy for Drouin up front, and adding a Stepan) - unless we get full offensive value back for Galchenyuk, which is unlikely.

If, then, this trade means Segy for Drouin + galchenyuk for (say) Stepan, then it's an overall short-term improvement, but as clear-cut a short term win as this deal is right now. And at that point I like the deal a lot less. It would amount to trading Sergachev for Stepan (since Galy and Drouin cancel each other out offensively).

Much depends on the moves of the next few days.

Picking up Drouin makes this trade very good We addressed a need, offence, trading Galchenyuk now makes no sense to me. We would lose that one.

He actually waived it for ONLY Vegas from what I read.

can he waive his NMC for one team only? I thought as far as these clauses go you either waive or don't. Wouldn't that still be a no movement clause? I mean lots of guys have a certain number of teams they can say no to written in their contract, and for the purposes of the expansion draft still have to be protected unless they waive the whole clause. No?

When Ottawa scored goals, the Refs didn't #### them over.

Intent to blow the whistle is the worst rule of all-time.

I agree with you commandant but in this case, he actually blew the whistle. You can hear it on the replay. He lost sight of the puck thought that Murray had it and blew the whistle.

Crosby is also allowed to throw a waterbottle on the ice from the bench and nothing happens.  Anyone else and thats a suspension.

Even Sidney said it should have been a penalty. But the 2 guys with CSS disease missed it.  (can't See Shit)

But Galchenyuk's number one priority after practice is said to be working on his one-timers instead.

"Can lead a horse to water; but, you cant make it drink."

Maybe Alex Galchenyuk Sr. is 'helping coach and advise' him and is not doing well at it?

I think Alex jr wants to succeed, he has been a very good player for his entire life. I am not sure why The Habs are so down on him. He has been a productive scorer, he has great puck control. His back checking is not so good?  Guy Lafleur wasn't a great defensive player, nor was Wayne Gretzky. Their job was goals goals and more goals. I think Alex has been mishandled. Stick him at center and let him score goals. As to his father, I don't know if he is interfering but if he is, he needs to mind his own bidnes. And not be minding Alex's.

as Hank jr once said. I paraphrased.

I can see why. 24 points in 200 AHL games, and his hockeydb.com picture looks like an unshowered pervert, or somebody on drugs.

NHL reffing is a farce, riddled with arbitrariness and double-standards - and it's especially egregious in the playoffs, where, suddenly, "letting them play the game" means massive and continuous violations of straightforward rules.

    Nothing new here.

You are right, the refs last night are the same ones who "let them play" every game they ref. They wonder why things get out of hand, maybe they  should pay attention and call the forking penalties.

Sure Subban said it was okay, do you think Crosby would have said the same if the roles were reversed??  No arguement that Crosby takes a lot of abuse - but he gets away with a lot more than most players do.  Do you think if methot had taken off part of crosby's finger, he wouldn't have been suspended?

even Friedman on the radio said this morning that Crosby should have been penalized on both plays.  The tv announcers even said the 5th goal shouldn't have counted because Crosby should have been penalized.

Crosby said he should have been penalized on the water bottle "slip" so ipso facto he agrees 5th should have been called back

I like Galchenyuk, but I would make the trade for Duchene...Duchene is a stronger and more explosive skater than Alex and that will open up lots of space for others...That said, Gallchenyuk has the talent to grow into a superstar if he can get his head on straight....

not a deal I would make. unless we got more coming our way.

Why would he take 5.5/8 years when he can likely get 5.5-6 for 1 year from an arbitrator based on his numbers?

His agent is saying he wants a 1 year deal cause he doesn't want the long deal.  He wants one-year, cause he thinks he can go out and score like crazy and get a lot more next year.  He wants to bet on himself.

cause I want him to. It won't happen but what the heck.
