  1. It appears that Kovy had a 40 minute skate around Bell Center ice this morning with Koivu. The article states that he is "ahead" of his rehab. This guy's body is a machine! http://www.rds.ca/canadien/chroniques/193512.html
  2. I'd agree that Belfour has no business being singled out as one of the few. I'd personally go with Luongo and Turco for for 2 and 3. Cujo deserves to get consideration for his play this year. Theo only deserves consideration in the sense that Belfour deserves consideration.
  3. Gillett seems to be a fan first a foremost. He really seems to enjoy owning an NHL team for the pleasure of it. If there was an american to whom our public autorities had to loan money to help him finance the purchase of our hockey team, I'm glad it was him.
  4. This was basically my thoughts regarding Bonk until fairly recently. Recently I've been getting annoyed and it's not the lack of goals in of itself (he is a checking line center). It's his apparent lack of effort on the ice. I'm not sure if it's not just a physical impression he gives out without actual reflecting his actual state of mind, but man from here he sure does seem disengaged from the game. He does just enough to be effective defensively and rarely shows any kind of spunk on offense. He seems to just coast through games. Could it be that our Bonk is a dispassionate man who just happens to also be somewhat lazy?
  5. Well, according to those stats, Bonk has a higher point for game average......but we did have to give more to get him than Columbus did to get Fed. All is zen I guess:)
  6. Well signing UFA's is a different thing than signing non UFA players. Basically, if you want a UFA player you have to give him what his price is in the market. Basically, even if you might think it is an "overpayment"....you have to make the call that the player is worth that to keep or bring to the team. At 3.5M I think Koivu walks. I would think that one of 29 teams team would give him 4.5M (maybe a bit more if desperate for a 1st center with loads of heart). The question is how much is he worth (and -especially for Koivu- how much is losing him worth) for Mtl. I would think we could do 4M (maybe all the way to 4.5M) to keep him and I would think Koivu would acdept that offer -doesn't stike me as the type that will leave just to squeeze every penny he could get.
  7. Getting off subject, but yeah, I think Koivu will get a raise to sign with the Habs before getting UFA status. I'm thinking in the 4M-4.5M range for a 3 year deal. Koivu isn't about greed. He'd take that deal without testing the UFA waters I'd think.
  8. I could be wrong, but isn't Jokinen on a one year deal and set to become a UFA next summer? If that is the case, I would think that the Habs would not trade Ribs and Pleks -especially Pleks- for a one season upgrade at center. It would have to be a sign and trade and that can't happen before Jan 1st.
  9. All three should make the team and play important roles. I've heard Chip is being labelled a possible team Canada captain.
  10. Sykora is waaaaaayyyyyyyy too expensive for what he brings. I'd stay quite clear of that one for now.....at the deadline.....seeing this is his last year on his contract.....yeah maybe.
  11. yeap, two words: Radek Bonk.
  12. He seemed to be busy trying to land Aucoin or another top pairing dman. Dandy seemed to be very much a plan B. Sort of like "thank you for your interest in the Habs Dandy, we'll keep you posted if we have room for you. Darn, nobody is signing here or asking way too much to sign here.....we're going to end up high dry.....call up that Dandy, i heard he was about to sign in boston....we'll secure him".
  13. I really like Bulis' play. He is fast, intense, one of the more physical playing players on the team, defensively very good......an all around very complete player. It just baffles me many scoring chances he misses. He is the complete opposite of Dagenais. Still a very valuable asset to the team....he does everything but score (and those everythings are very important). I'd actually like to see him get more 2nd line time with Ribs and Ryder. I thought that was a pretty good match (if nothing else, it adds speed, grit and defensive play to a line that lacks it).
  14. Ryder denied that Ribs made a statement? That makes no sense.
  15. They just keep changing managers, as if their problems laid there.
  16. NHL: Sens, Canucks, Lightning (Richards, Crosby, Luongo, Alfredson) NFL: Bills, Eagles, 49ers (McNabb, Maning, Westbrook, Evans) Soccer: Arsenal, FC Porto, Barcelona (Henri, Wright-Phillips, Figo)
  17. Wasn't he a GM in Anaheim? Gordon Bombay told me that. [Edited on 4-12-05 by mathieug] Don't know who that is but I know that the reason he was fired from Florida's GM wasbecause he made this "crazy" trade: Oleg Kvasha + Radek Dvorak for Olli Jokinen + Roberto Luongo At the time Milbury was the big winner and Murray got fired for creating Florida it's future. You don't know Mr Bombay? Coach Bombay from the D-5 team? He invented the flying-V! That Gordon Bombay. Flying V? The only flying V I know involves birds. Gordon Bombay is a hockey genious. Came out of retirement a few years ago and turned a sorry bunch of sad excuses for hockey players into a class act championship team. He only made one trade, one that looked ugly at first, but turned out to be a brilliant move. Gordon Bombay is hockey genious!
  18. I like Pleks, but I don't think anybody can assume he "naturally" can fill the second line spot right away. Ribs was the team's leading scorer last year. What exactly has Pleks proven on offense that make in such a lock?
  19. That sounds quite plausible to me, seeing that Ryder IS the team's leading goal scorer.
  20. Call me practical, but I don't think these comments should change anything. If he did make those comments, he should get his head chewed off by Gainey monday morning in his office but not get traded unless we can get a better 2nd center in a Ribeiro + package we would be comfortable with (not likely, I think the 2nd center position can best be upgraded in the UFA market next summer). Rushing players out of town because of off ice issues leads to incredibly poor trades. Lets stop with the Ronald Corey forced trades that cost us assets (Chelios comes to mind quickly) in exchange for nothing cause we feel rushed to deal them and let other GMs deal from a position of strenght.
  21. skip to page 2 of this thread Oups sorry. Toke a chance, didn't review the 31 pages prior to posting.
  22. Heard on the radio that Dandenault had said that when Avery came up to the red wings (of which Dandy was a part) he had asked his teamates to call him "Mad Dog" cause he thought he was such tough boy.....the teamates decided to call him "puppy" instead, which Avery really didn't like. Too bad word didn't really get around. Would have been hilarious to have 21,000+ chanting "puppy, puppy" everytime he touched the puck. [Edited on 2005/12/4 by Rooster]
  23. They also save on cap room by sending them down. Keeping them on the active roster for an inactive week, just takes cap space. Teams like Vancouver (that are right up against the cap) do this regularly........call them up for a game, send them right down after, call them up for the next game. It must be hell on those players.
  24. Hypothetically, if Bertuzzi is to be traded to Mtl, I would see something like Theo for Bertuzzi and Cloutier. We would have to give up around a 5M salary to pick up a 5M + salary. Don't see this happening at all though. If Bertuzzi was to be traded, I'd see it more in a move for Luongo (who is a player on the outs with his organization).
