  1. Big difference between a UFA deal and an RFA deal...one has A LOT more leverage then the other.

You have to compare Pleks to Higgins, Komi, and other RFA's.

Yep - the conclusion that I've come to is that Komisarek and especially Higgins may have taken pay cuts?

Both guys received raises over last year. I think the amount of Pleks contract has a lot to do with the way the market has changed since they signed.

Yeah, I used the wrong word. I meant they accepted discounts and took less than they were actually worth.

I can see why Pleks got more, he achieved career highs and led the team in +/- last season. I think that this guy is only going to get better and put up even greater numbers this season.

  3. My goodness people - it's less than 10 games into the season and people are claiming the Habs are worse off than they were last year?

The Habs are currently in 4th in their conference (have more points than Jersey who are in third thanks to a stupid setup!) and would be 3rd out west, yet people continue to carp incessantly on how things are wrong and the situation is beyond critical? You'd think they need to be brought back from the dead the way some people are reacting......

It is less than an 1/8th of the way through the year people - there have been some changes to the lineup that take time to sort out.

People make mistakes and have bad games over the course of the season - nobody plays a perfect season, just like nobody else is perfect in their job......

If you really stop to think about it before reacting then you have to admit the following factors should be taken into consideration when making an assesment - A new coach with new expectations and some different approaches; there are new players that need to find their place on the team; new line combos to sort out and a lot of other nuances that come with building a winner.

Some of the moves they made are transition moves - fill a gap sufficiently until the prospects you're grooming can do so, etc, etc...... so typical of the impatience we have in society we can't wait to see it happen? If you were a player looking at Montreal would you want to move into that environment, and risk running the wrath of all the so-called experts that are out there waiting to crucify you if you have a slow start, a few bad games or have trouble finding the right chemistry with your linemates? I would highly doubt it, especially when you could receive the same or more to go elsewhere with no pressure at all - somewhere where you can actually eat your meal with your family in peace at the local fast food joint, or go to the corner store without being hounded if you've had a bad game last night?

If the Habs are struggling in March then we have a right to wonder what is up, but these guys have shown they can skate with Buffalo(#1 overall) and compete as well. This is not a team that is in serious problems - see Philadelphia & Phoenix if you need to understand this concept better! They are up and coming, and will compete seriously within the next couple of years. Right now they are still building for that day.....

Give it a bit of thought after taking a deep breath people - 4th place and your still bitching??????:o

Great post  you my friend are the voice of reason. I shudder to think what would be happening on this board if we had the same record as the Coyotes.

  4. I must ask, what has Lats done so far this season, my answer, nothing, this guy isn't ready for the NHL and though he probably won't should go back to junior. It was quite obvious early on last night he didn't belong on the 2nd line.

Iron Lung, if you think Lats having a minus is bad and should be sent down, what do you want to do with Souray and Rivet. They are a combines minus 10. Let the kid play and learn. He is not playing as bad as alot of other forwards.
Name the forwards not playing as well as him
  5. That's not true. If you bothered reading my post you would of seen that I had an example of a player who is 19 and plays on the Albany River Rats. It has to do with the year the are drafted if I understood it correctly from Kozed et al.
I was refering to players who were playing Jr when drafted. The player you are talking about in Albany is considered to be a 20 yr old based on his birth date.

Latendresse cannot play in the AHL until the major junior season is over. This is because he was born in 1987.

The eligibility rules for AHL play are different for College and Euro players than for Major Junior players.

The rules are different because NHL gives a concession to major juniors so that MJ gets to keep their better players. It is also a way for a few more AHL players to keep their jobs.

Cumiskey was born in 1986 - this makes a difference. Read Article 8.7(b ) of the CBA.

Kozed knows what he is talking about. InsaneAVSFan knows what he is talking about. They are longtime members of good standing on HW who have consistently shown an understanding of the game of hockey and the NHL. The fact that they are longtime members does not make them more knowledgeable, but it does give those of us reading the board evidence by which to evaluate their knowledge.

Latendresse is currently exempt from waivers. I have not carefully read CBA 13.4(a,b ) to be sure, but I don't think he gets elligible until 2009.

If he plays in 11 games or more it's 2009, if less than that it's 2010
  6. Yea i really hope ryder leaves. Main reason gives another spot open for a rookie that can light it up *COUGH* PEREZHOGIN *COUGH*

And Ryder is greedy he always takes so long to sign a new contract what a concided kid...( i unno how to spell that word)

Why is Ryder greedy? Asking for your market value is smart not greedy, 2.2 mil for a 30 goal scorer is a good deal, especially when that 30 goals is tops on the team. "Conceated", I think not
  7. Damn, Bouillon is ok, but this place overrates him something fierce. If he walks out on the Habs it's not the end of the world.
I don't think people overrate him at all, on the other hand there are those that seem to underrate him
  8. I've mentionned this before, but now it could be interesting

Spector reported today that NYI might consider offering their 1st rounder to any team willing to take Yashin and his cap space.

Now considering, it might take a trade like Zednik, ribs and our 2nd rounder for Yashin and their 1st rounder, it would give us 2 first rounders this season, and a big, right-handed center who may gel with Kovy pretty good.

I wouldn't do that trade. Personally, I feel Ribs' obvious pleasure playing for the Habs and his passion for it, I'd take another chance on him this season than taking Yashin..

    But it is interesting nonetheless

    GAG :?-

  9. Looking back, we were severely outgunned at the forward position.

We lost Koivu, they were without Cole....so call that a wash.

    Then, after that:

They've got Eric Staal, Mark Recchi, Doug Weight, Rod Brind'Amour

We've got: Kovalev (and, stretching a bit based on past performance, Zednik)

That's it, that's all, in terms of big-name forwards. One damn guy, possibly two if you stretch a bit.

That put it into perspective for me.

I disagree with being severely outgunned. You didn't mention Ryder 30 goals, Higgins 23 goals, Bulis 20 goals. Doug Weight had 6 goals, he didn't outgun anyone. By the way, we outscored them in the series and if you take away the first game they scored 3 more goals. Severely outgunned I think not.
