  1. Desharnais is notoriously streaky. He's cold right now, sitting him is the right move. Don't forget, 2 assists in 19 games to start the season, then finishing the season with 50 or 60 points.
  2. Most of those guys are not third-liners. They're first or second liners put further back to get some scoring balance. (Which I suppose is fair to say about Desharnais, too. He's a decent second line center. What he is not is a first line center.) It's like Evgeni Malkin. Technically, he plays on Pittsburgh's second line. However, on 25 other teams, he'd be their first line center. The fact is Pittsburgh has 2 first line centers.
  3. Somehow, Desharnais is both in the press box and on line three. Who's drawing in for him?
  4. To me, Starbucks Coffee tastes... burned. It's like they exposed the beans to actual fire before they ground them. It's charred and excessively bitter. I don't like it. Tim Horton's is drinkable, but not particularly great. I second the notion that Tim Horton's makes their coffee drinkable by using a lot of 18% cream. (The new McDonald's McCafé Coffee is, to my tastebuds, actually better than Tim Horton's, which says something bad about Tim Horton's, I guess.) I'm not really that fond of Second Cup or Timothy's, either. The stuff I brew at home (nothing fancy, either) is better than any of it.
  5. Poor canucks. They are so impotent right now that even a leaky, used Condon was enough to stop them.
  6. Jimmy Howard's numbers are even better, but he's only played 210 minutes (compared to Price's 359 minutes.)
  7. He said he wants to cut back on shooting the puck so he doesn't ruin his percentage. Heh. Hey, speaking of shooting percentage, with Radulov's awarded goal, does it also count as a shot on net? That seems like a good way to boost your shooting percentage -- score without shooting.
  8. Yeah. You can argue about Sid the Kid vs. Carey Price, but Anaheim, Carolina and Minnesota sure missed an opportunity there. (not to take the spotlight away from Carey, but the real steal for goaltenders that year was Jonathan Quick, drafted 72nd. Sure, Carey is better, but not 67 draft places better.)
  9. Reporter: "Do you think this game was a wake-up call for the team?" Carey Price [shrugging]: "I'm awake."
  10. As for the game -- as long as being outshot 2-1 doesn't become a habit, I'll happily take it.
  11. Offensively, we won't be "playing down" to the Leafs. They're scoring up a storm. It's defensively they're suffering. Much of that is in net. I don't think it's possible for Carey Price to play down to that level. However, it's entirely possible for Andersson to play up to ours once in a while.
  12. You forgot Gordie. (Who was still an amazing player at 50 years old in Hartford for two nhl seasons.)
  13. Actually "Offensive Zone Faceoffs" is shown on most advanced stats pages as a mitigating factor -- if you start more times in your own end, you're going to face a lot more shots against the shots for. Plekanec has started 63% of his faceoffs in the defensive zone. He's started far more in his own end, as you say. (Interestingly, Weber's also had 61% defensive zone starts in his first seven games, which greatly explains his slightly lower possession stats.)
  14. He seems to compensate for that by being excellent at the short passes up to a free forward. Subban skated it out. Weber, while not slow, lacks Subban's mobility, so he passes it out.
  15. You can't. However, a 3 year difference in age is certainly a decent predictor of a 3 year difference in effective play. YMMV, but all other things being equal, Subban will still be a star in the NHL for another year or two when Weber decides to hang up his skates.
  16. And if he ends up getting 18 goals and 53 points (other than the impossible 35 and 105 he's on pace for) he's still had a great season.
