  1. In Ottawa things went crazy. My friends and I were out at a sport bar on one of the main downtown strips. After the game we marched downtown flags waving all the way to parliament hill. Within 30 minutes there were thousands of people celebrating and partying on parliament hill, signing Oh Canada, literally dancing in the centennial flame. A pickup hockey game even broke out. It was really amazing. To top things off I got my picture in the Ottawa Citizen and my fiancee was quoted in the citizen and had her picture in the Ottawa Sun!
  2. Man this is just a pathetic demonstration of hockey by the Finns. Even Norway played the Americans tighter than this.
  3. 3pm ET. Rumours of Whitney to MTL. I wonder what the price would be...
  4. Can we all keep in mind that we just sent a 22 year old goalie to play arguable the best offensive team in the last 20 years after sitting on the bench for more than 10 days. I'd say all things considered he handled himself pretty good. Did you see the way these Capitals humiliated Fleury the other day? Even the best goalies look awful against this team. The reality is that Price made enough saves to keep the team in it against the best team in the league. Could Halak have done the same? Probably. He's been playing great lately too, but one has to think that his rebound issues would have been more of a factor against a team like Washington. People here spend so much time fighting over who's "their guy" in goal. Cheer up folks, we have two young promising goalies, either of whom I'd trust to start right now. How many other teams can actually say that?
  5. For those that are interested, CBC News Network will be carrying the press conference live at 4pm. Not sure if any of the sports networks are going to air it.
  6. When the Leafs were searching for a GM, most Leaf fans would've told you that their #1 choice was Brian Burke. So the question remains, if Gauthier is indeed the Interim GM. Who's at the top of our wishlist?
  7. anyone have a history on Gauthier? You have to wonder what this might do to any possible deals that are in the mix right now. Also Gainey's always been seen as having Price as "his guy" maybe someone like Gauthier will be more willing to deal Price and stick with Halak.
  8. well there we go.. I hope they give these kids a chance. Wouldn't be shocked if maxwell goes down, he hasn't looked that impressive.
  9. Desharnais gets the callup... Seriously, what more does Brock Trotter have to do to get a callup???
  10. Agreed, I avoided the movie because I'm convinced that the movie can't hold up against the book. I would encourage anyone to read it, as well as many of Michael Lewis' other books (moneyball in particular).
  11. Komisarek done for the year.... excellent . Karma baby, karma.
  12. Yah I hear you, but the guy is building a business. His goal really is to make money (as is human nature) and he has no real incentive to do a mea culpa and tell his readers that he is just a commentator. People pay for him because they believe he has sources and is connected. He isn't committing fraud by going along with this belief (it may even be true, who knows...). My point is simply that its a business and his goal is to grow that business, like it or not. Nobody forces anyone to visit his site, read his article and certainly not pay for his subcriber services.
  13. I dont know I give the guy all the credit in the world. He's made a business out of rumours and speculation. He's upfront with what he does. He reports rumours. There is no guarantee of accurate information and nobody can ever prove that the guy is lying. Aside from the rumours he's recruited a decent stable of writers to report on each of the teams from his site. While I don't love reading Eklund's crap I do, for example, enjoy reading Eric Engels take on the Habs. Nobody is forcing anyone to pay him money, I read the site and would never consider being a paid subscriber. Let's call this what it is. Any one of us would love to have come up with this idea first. To be able to make good money being an NHL rumours guy would be excellent.
  14. I think (for the most part) those here arguing for a trade of Halak are doing so not because they think he's a bad goaltender, its because they want to maximize his trade value. Some (myself included) believe that this may be the highwater mark on his time in Montreal and better to trade him now, then wait and see his value diminish.
  15. Yah I know, but not too many other people picked us to win tonight so I'm giving myself a pass on that.
  16. I find myself slowly coming around on Halak. I've always believed that Price will be the better goalie in the long run and was committed to riding out whatever growing pains are necessary to ensure that would happen. I have to say though that Halak is making a believer out of me. That being said there's a part of me that wonders if we are now seeing the best kind of hockey Halak can provide. Is this the peak of his worth? If the answer is yes than it certainly seems as though dealing him (regardless of how demoralizing it may be in the short term) might be in the teams best interests in the long term.
  17. wow... might as well rename this the optimism thread. I'm going to have some faith. I say the boys rally out of the gate, put in 2 goals early to take the 2-0 lead and end up holding on in the 3rd for a 3-2 win.
  18. Who the hell cares if he's gay or not? In what way does that impact his ability to do his job?
  19. Any Stamps fans have any insight into Cortez. His resume speaks pretty well for his ability to develop QBs. Just wondering what type of a coach we're getting in Buffalo.
  20. I think maybe its about time that Brock Trotter gets a callup. That guy's been on fire lately.
  21. Hal Gill was directly responsible for all three goals. Goal 1: Loses contain on Kovalev, lets him walk in and score and easy chip in goal Goal 2: Takes a bad penalty, Sens score on the PP Goal 3: Out of position, trips Spezza to avoid an easy breakaway goal, Sens take advantage in OT with a 4 on 3 PP.
  22. I think if the umpire in question (John Hirschbeck) can accept his apology you should too .
  23. Good to hear. Shame Alomar didn't get in, then we'd have had an all Canadian inductee ceremony.
