Parros will play be in the lineup to play Boston and Toronto, that's easily worth the cost we paid, his salary and having to carry him as the 13th forward.
-
How can you complain about this one. Parros is a solid enforcer, makes under a million and we got him for a 7th round pick and an AHLer who we got as a free agent.
Plus, as Trizz says, can't wait to see that 'stache on the ice.
haha from John Lu, via twitter:
#Habs fans will be happy to have a George who will fight.
-
Nope, team just announced they acquired George Parros. Solid enforcer, and you've got to love the stache!
-
LeBrun just tweeted that we're close to trading for some toughness.
-
The pessimism on this board is absolutely hilarious. Thanks for entertaining me all day today guys.
You won't see me shedding tears because MB hasn't drastically overspent on free agents.

So much for the Bobby Ryan fantasy, apparently he's been dealt to the Senators. That might help Sens fans get over the loss of Alfie.
-
I'd love Bobby Ryan but you'd have to think that the cost would be prohibitive.
-
I'd love to see them land Morrow. Would be a solid fit on the 3rd line and would bring excellent leadership in the locker room.
-
Forgot about him, he'll command a decent amount of money as well. They'll still have lots to spend after that though, I figure they'll be in on some of the more prominent free agents come tomorrow.
Clarkson would be my guess.

So with the Leafs buying out Grabovski, they now sit 29th in committed payroll for next season. They have 12 players signed and roughly $24.5 M in cap space. RFA's of note are Gunnarsson, Franson, and Kadri who will eat up a decent-sized chunk of that but they'll have a ton of money to spend via free agency/trade. They also are paying six players not to play for them now which is rather interesting.
Also have Bernier as a RFA to sign

Pierre LeBrun says that we were interested in Clowe but are now out. He says Clowe to Jersey looks likely.

Habs anounce Stéphane Waite as the new Goalie coach. Great news, great hire. This should do wonders for Price.

Exactly why I went with Boston... (Cuz I think Pittsburgh will win, but an "upset" is my only chance to MAYBE crack the podium)
Good gamble because I suspect you're right, most people will go with Pittsburgh. I really wanted to take Chicago, I just think that Quick will be a difference maker.
-
Decided not to play it safe. I'm all in with Pittsburgh and LA.
-
I'm feeling pretty confident... which is why I'll probably blow it
-
I for one wouldn't mind seeing Desharnais in the press box for this one. Best players need to play and I'm not sure he's one of our best 12 forwards right now.

Agreed. Not surprised MB decided to hang on to the future assets instead of trying to tweak the lineup. Getting Bourque and Diaz back will be our deadline action.
Nobody expected us to compete this year, the future is bright in Montreal, and this year we're playing with house money. No need to mortgage the future for a chance to win it all this year. The gap between us and the Pittsburgh's and Chicago's is still too large.

Listened to game today. Bush and Jeffress were brutal giving up circa 12 runs. The sad thing was, that in a post game interview, Jeffress come across like he didn't pitch that bad. Wow! What world is he from? It appears to me that Cecil wins that last spot in the bullpen.
The team announced this morning that Lawrie will start the year on the DL and they will likely carry 8 relievers to start the season. I think this means that both Jeffress and Cecil will make the team initially. The team seems hesitant to risk losing Jeffress on waivers. He's got all the physical tools to be a solid big league RP but he just needs to get the mental side together.

Problem is there aren't enough sellers. Florida is about it.
I'd be interested in Marcel Goc, but only if we raise his ceilings.

I think they get it tonight, and I'm going to go out on a limb and say that Ryder scores his first goal since his return for the 20,000th goal.
-
I thought Ryder played under Therrien last time he was here, apparently not. Either way, the more I think about this deal, the more I like it, especially getting a draft pick thrown in as well. Well done MB !
-
The cap savings is obviously a big factor here, as is Therrien familiarity with Ryder. Will be interesting to see how the lines may change after this deal.

Unless Bob Mackenzie just got hacked on twitter it looks like we`ve just send Erik Cole to the Stars for Michael Ryder. shocked....
here's the link: https://twitter.com/TSNBobMcKenzie/status/306541777597382658
Having a hard time understanding this... I guess Therrien liked Ryder last time he was here...

If true I think that would be a fantastic return. Simmonds is a real talent and bring some serious size and physicality. Coburn is a big upgrade on the blue line and we get out from under Moen's overpaid contract. I'd be doing cartwheels if this happens.
