  1. Hope your right. Everyone knows that Alex shortsheeted the 2012 season. We still need today a top end starter and big lefthanded DH masher the same as last year (I think EE has earned the first base position). I'll believe it when I see it. I agree they have the resources. I believe they missed an opportunity last year. I expect they will go back into the second hand shop when the big boys show up with big dollars.

I base this on nothing other than my own intuition, but I strongly feel that the Jays will sign David Ortiz to DH. Ortiz has always been very complementary of Toronto, has ties to Farrell and is a close friend of Bautista.

For SP it appears as though the Angels are going to decline the options of both Haren and Santana, the White Sox are looking like they'll do the same with Peavy. I would be targeting these three guys, plus Greinke to fill the SP void via FA.

  2. I here whispers that the Jays aren't going to spent to bring in top free agents. Roger's put their wallet back in their pocket, Jays regroup roster off of the scratch and dint pile and we end with another fourth or fifth place finish again next year.

Not sure what "rumours" you're talking about because Anthopolous has been pretty clear in all his interviews over the last 2 months that they Jays are looking to add in the offseason and will spend (either via free agency or trade) in order to get the right pieces. He's specifically mentioned upgrades in the starting rotation at 1B/DH (whichever EE isn't playing), 2B and LF.

  3. congrats Noah....you made a big splash in the offseason and it showed in the first round

    good job dude.

Thanks bud, only 1 round though. Have to avoid the dreaded "unbeaten" curse and figure out how to get past BUF/TB.

  4. Well that makes my next few days a bit more relaxed :). Cheering for the upsets now. Go Bruins! Go Islanders! Go Panthers!

In all my years in this league, and all my times in the playoffs, I think this is the first time I'm on the positive end of a series sweep :-D.

  5. Needed an upgrade on my 4th line to replace the injured Perron. Hopefully Umberger will provide a veteran presence. Losing Meronen doesn't hurt much, he was a waiver pickup a few seasons ago. Tucker goes to clear some cap space.

Thanks Haydis for the quick and easy negotiations.

Also want to note that Umberger previously had a CON drop which was never caught (down to 27 from 73). You can see the previous trade here: http://forums.habswo...er&fromsearch=1.

I've spoken to Haydis and Fanpuck who both say the CON should be restored back to 73, so if the simmer could please make that adjustment I would appreciate it.

  6. Confirmed. My AHL goalies are a mess (both subject to the post 30 tank) and it's affected my entire team. Hannonen will help to stabilize things until benesov is ready. Shame to lose Borchevsky as he was one of my better ahl forwards but I have lots of forward depth in my prospects and he was never going to be an NHLer for me.

    Thanks Brian.

  7. First real slump of the season for the Pens and now I've lost Mikkelson for a month. Depth is being tested and it's the worst timing for me as I'm travelling again this weekend.

  8. Right, because missing a red card and multiple potential second yellows on Tancredi didn't change the course of the game significantly. There's no way Canada competes in the game down a player. There was a lot of physical play both ways that went uncalled, but Tancredi was downright dirty. She shouldn't be allowed to play in the bronze medal game.

I'd agree assuming they were also going to penalize Wombach from the gold medal game because from what I saw she played just as dirty (if not more) than anyone else on the pitch, the referee excluded.

  9. I would agree with Brett's suggestion, the only caveat being that we often have trouble finding one person to step up to fill the TC role, so finding 3 (plus the alternates) might be very difficult.

I would be prepared to serve as an alternate should we adopt this system.

  10. I wanted to just pass along to everyone my resignation as trade commissioner. I actually provided my noticed to the commish team in mid-June and I was hoping to delay this announcement until they had selected a replacement, but we are going on 2 months now and I don't want people to have to continue to wait on me to approve deals.

Ultimately I felt it was time for me to move on from this role, it is not easy having to be the arbiter of other people's trades. I've tried to work with everyone to make this process as smooth as possible but it is impossible to do this without some people taking my decisions personally.

I hope that me making this announcement formal will encourage the commish team to announce their new TC as I just don't have the time anymore to fulfill these duties.

  11. Here's the thing.... fouls, yellow cards, etc... lots of those were missed both ways. No doubt about that. But you can say that about nearly every match in the history of soccer.

What you can't do, is find me another match where this 6 second rule was enforced. Where an indirect free kick inside the penalty area was awarded. No one can find it. Not one analyst or journalist ever can recall such a call in a major competition or a big league game. What McLeod was doing was not unusual or different from what Solo was also doing, or from what tons of goalies do every single day. But somehow the ref choose to make this call, to favour a team losing by 1 goal, with 10 minutes left in an olympic semi-final.

    RIDICULOUS

Couldn't agree with this post more.

Also to fanpuck's point about tancredi's hard fouls, I only got home in time two watch just before we went up 2-1 so I may have missed that play, but I think it's a bit hypocritical to not also mention how Wombach got away with virtually all of her chip shots and dirty hits and pushes. She was abusing the Cdn defence all day and I don't think she got called once.

  12. Well, there were two consecutive calls. First, the goalie got called for time wasting, so the US was awarded an indirect free kick in the box. I have to think the goalie had been warned already about it. Then on the resulting play, the US played the ball over for a shot and the ball hit two different Canadians in the arm. Both contacts were the type that would normally get called outside the box, but probably not get called for a PK. I think the fact that it ended up going off of two arms had something to do with the ref actually making the call. Overall, I thought the officiating was quite weak. Both teams got away with quite a bit throughout the game. Tancredi for Canada in particular played an extremely rough game and should have gotten a 2nd yellow a number of times.

Nope, no warning was given. Even the US coach said that in all her years (and she's been around a long time) she's never seen that call made without a warning given.

Let's also not forget that the Ref missed a blatant handball on the US in their box about 20 minutes earlier. I see it as at least 5 very poor calls:

    1. missed handball on the US in their own box which would've given Canada a penalty kick

    2. Delay of game call on the Cdn keeper without any prior warning being given

    3. Decision on the delay of game call to give the US a free kick in the box rather than just give the goalie a yellow card (the Ref had the option to do either)

    4. Hand ball call on Canada in the box (admittedly this was probably the toughest call to make, but wouldn't have mattered had the previous call not been blown)

    5. Play late in the game where the ball clearly went out of bounds past the end line which was then awarded to the US as a corner which set up a very near goal and gave them solid momentum into the final minutes of the game.

This is nothing to take away from the US team. They played excellent clutch soccer but there is no question that the calls were falling mostly in the American's favour.

  13. I'd like to thank the Media for effing up the Stars....figure next sim I am screwed after being praised.

Philly still in the playoff hunt despite me being MIA for a couple sims...sorry for being out boys, had to get my kid to Nationals (and no, we didn't get a trophy).

Glad to be back though and I have signed up to sim as well...thanks for everyone stepping up in my absence!

ditto, got the media praise then lost my next game.
