  18. We're now less than two hours away from the start of free agency and given what transpired yesterday, it's safe to figure that the Habs have something up their sleeve. Who do you want them to sign? Who do you think they'll sign? Where will the big names go? Let's use this for a discussion thread as the signings come in (anything Montreal-related should get its own obviously).
  19. It's draft time so it's time to get the annual thread going. Use this for any discussions/predictions/analysis of Montreal's selections and trades, plus anything interesting coming out of the rest of the league trade-wise. Here are the selections the Habs currently hold: 26th overall 87th overall 117th overall 125th overall (via NYI) 147th overall 177th overall 207th overall For your pre-draft reading, be sure to check out our Draft Central page linked below. In there, we have some in-depth articles about some of the prospects likely to go in around #26, assessment of team strengths and weaknesses, our annual mock draft, our draft pool (there's still time to enter), and much more. 20. Write-up to follow in about 3 hours...
  21. The Habs head into MSG looking to steal a victory. The Habs have carried the play for the last five periods, and won two of the last three, save for the overtime heroics of Quebecois Superstar and Mighty Mite, Marty St Louis. The Bell Center was once again a house of horrors for the King, as the Swedish pretty-boy/wearer of huge pads skated off the ice like a disgraced broadway blueberry halfway through the game. A wacky game that featured up and down play, and 11 goals, saw the Habs almost blow the plot, until an unlikely hero emerged. Rene Bourque scored three goals to seal the Habs victory, and reestablish his Conn Smythe hopes. The lineups will feature two changes, Raphael Diaz is in for Dirty Rat John Moore, and Brandon Prust slots in for Michael Bournival. (Not confirmed).
  22. NYR -Who cares + Stepan, the dirty rat. MTL -Who cares, because... :scared: IF THEY LOSE, NO MORE HABS HOCKEY FOR MONTHS!!!

  25. Fans of the Montreal Canadiens were overjoyed after Game 7 of the ECSF vs the Bruins, only to see their hopes dashed in the first game of the Eastern Conference Finals. All that could go wrong, did go wrong, and the Rangers coasted to a 7-2 blowout victory. The Rangers scored their goals by commitee, as 11 skaters hit the score sheets. The Rangers scored on three powerplays in the third period, which could be troubling for the Habs, who enjoyed a special teams advantage prior to the series. The game was not without its cost to both teams, as second line center Derrick Brassard, and Carey Price were both banged up. If this were fantasy sports, I would rate Price as "probable," and Brassard as "questionable" to play in Game 2. The fancy stats side of things went out the window, due to score effects. However, a quick glance at ExtraSkater.com shows that the fourth line of the Rangers, and surprisingly, the second line of the Canadiens were pushed around at Even Strength. The key to success for the Rangers is to execute their uptempo game. Most likely due to contrast in opponents, the Rangers employed quick ups out of their zone, and the speed of the Rangers through the neutral zone stymied the Canadiens. Game one was a walk in the park, and they deserve full marks for taking advantage of an unprepared opponent. The key to success for the Canadiens will be revisiting the neutral zone trap that found them success in the Tampa series. Michel Therrien would be wise to move Danny Briere back to the fourth line, as his move to the second line failed the eye test, due to the lack of a classic "F1" forecheker, and the stats test, which saw the second line demolished in Corsi/Fenwick. Controlling the first ten minutes will be crucial; the Rangers exploded to four goals in something crazy like three minutes of gametime on Saturday. Executing a cycle game, and clogging up the neutral zone will level the ice, and the Canadiens should enjoy a comfortable advantage.
