Thats actually my desired profession and what I'm going to school for. I used to do user reviews on gamefaqs but not so much anymore.

I write a whole bunch of articles about gaming for fun but I don't publish them or anything. They just sit around on my HD, I'm working on one right now about the effects casual games/gamers have had on the industry since 2006 (which is actually quite profound if you ever sit back and take a look. Obviously Nintendo is playing a major rule but you'd be surprised at the effect Microsoft and Sony have on it as well)

I'd like to read it...

Hehe, funny ... :D

This NHL is by far the best I've ever played ... I'm not a die hard player but heck, this game is awesome. My first one was NHL98 and I nearly had all of them since then. This years edition though is simply a great one! :hockey:

Btw. Looking to buy Mass Effect - is it difficult to play?

Theres a small learning curve. Once you figure out how the menus work and remember to level up your characters, it's not bad at all. I talked about it a lot with lazy in this thread, I'll find the posts and show them to you. It was my 360 Game of the Year last year though (yeah, I liked it more then Bioshock) and was 2nd on my 2007 top 10 list.

Edit: Ok, it's kind of spread out so I can't link it. But read pages 12-14 of this thread. lazy, Maca, PMK and myself discuss it

I'd like to read it...

I can send it to you when I'm done? That would give me motivation to finish, I worked on it a couple days and haven't felt like going back since, haha.

Thx! Once played Baldurs Gate 1 + 2 - amazing games ... tons of side missions, great story. So when I read that Bioware also made Mass Effect, I compared it to those 2. Hope that they'll have ME as a Classic right before Christmas, so that I can afford it.

Anyone else enjoy the hell out of The Force Unleashed? I was really disappointed with the demo, and reluctantly bought the game (It's Star Wars, I had to!). It's got its fair shares of glitches, but I'm playing it through for the third time now, and I can't get enough. This game was pretty much critically panned by everyone, so I'm wondering if I'm the only one that enjoyed it. It took a while, but I really got into it.

I gather there will be downloadable content available this year (maps/levels, new characters).

I reviewed the Wii version after loving the 360 demo. It was really cool in terms of controls and wielding the force, but it boiled down to doing the same thing every mission: kill all the bad guys and then have a boss fight. In that respect, it was very boring. Puzzles and trying to figure out how to advance are things that have made past Star Wars games great, and this game didn't have that at all. On top of that, it was incredibly short. 9 hours? Really, LucasArts? You're better than that.

Should I give you a deadline too? Friday noon or I hire a company to attack your computer and destroy your hard drive? LOL

No, I didn't enjoy it at all. The Force still proved to be a pain (while enemies with those dumb shields completely negated them making the game feel useless) and all the hype was way, way overblown. Level design was really uninspired as well. Euphoria worked like I thought it would (this was one of the higlights for me, actually) but LucasArt's DMM? Rarely got to see that in action and that was really, really disappointing. It had a chance to introduce some really cool things to gaming and failed to do so. I'd only recommend it to Star Wars fans since they should get a lot of enjoyment out of it, everyone else just gets an average action game. It's not a bad game just a really mediocre game.

Someone make Bioware do KOTOR 3.

On top of that, it was incredibly short. 9 hours? Really, LucasArts? You're better than that.

9 hours is incredibly short? Whoa. The average game is 10-12 hours so I don't know about incredibly.

This makes you a suspect for all the other times my computer has sucked this year now

Yeah, Baldur's Gate was awesome, a PC game ever I've played. Mass Effect definitely takes from it but I think it has more in common with Knights of the Old Republic. There should be a platinum version of it out sometime, it sold a million copies in just a couple weeks (you need 400k to become a platinum hit)

I'm surprised they don't have one out already, Assassin's Creed is already platinum and it only came out a couple weeks before Mass Effect.

:?- How was the force a pain? I suppose the powers might not have been as good on the 360, but they were definitely the highlight of the game for the Wii version. In terms of controls, it was one of the better I've experienced on the Wii.

For a Star Wars game, yeah, it's really short. And really, it was only 9 hours because I took my time and then I got stuck for half an hour in one spot because I wasn't paying attention to which controller I was supposed to be using. I've always had to work to beat Star Wars game, this was no work at all.

Why on earth would anything be different for the 360? I know Krome worked on the Wii but as a multt-platform title, differences are going to be extremely marginal. The camera was useless (not Resident Evil useless but you still had to fight with it) making maneuvering objects a chore. The aiming system was finicky at times as well, there were a couple times I'd Force Push and nothing happened (swear to god). Plus with the Havok Engine, all you got was ragdoll physics instead of what LucasArts promised with DMM. Because of that, using the Force got old for me. LucasArt's promises had me expecting more out of the game.

In terms of controls, it was one of the better I've experienced on the Wii.

What shields?

The problem stems from the fact that even run-of-the-mill enemies can negate your best Force powers, whether it's with energy shields or their own Force abilities

Those shields. The shields I've heard people complain about in most reviews I've read.

Well then don't call it a 9 hour game, you beat it in 9 hours. Just read it's a 6 hour game which actually is pretty bad but I've played worse when it comes to Star Wars. The first two Lego games were really bad, I bet they were 3 hours max (although the same complaint can be made for Indy and Batman too. You really have to be a fan of the source to enjoy them, thats why I went out and bought Batman)

Or the Outcast games which were at best, 1 hour. Because I couldn't play longer then that before I fell asleep! *bah dum pish*

I'll be here all night everyone, try the veal.

Dude, I was just pointing out that I hadn't played the 360 version so there might be differences. I'd heard the Wii version had a number of significant differences, including different levels and the duel mode. I'll agree the camera wasn't great, especially during boss battles, but that had nothing to do with the force powers. I never had any problems with using the force powers and found them to be the game's #1 asset.

Those shields. The shields I've heard people complain about in most reviews I've read. : "The problem stems from the fact that even run-of-the-mill enemies can negate your best Force powers, whether it's with energy shields or their own Force abilities"

I know some people were fairly immune to lightning and lightsabres, but I didn't find anyone who couldn't be stopped with a good old force choke. None of the run-of-the-mill enemies had force powers, only the other jedi you encountered. And I didn't notice a significant amount of "Grevious' guard" characters, the ones with the weapons that can fight a light sabre and absorb lightning. Most enemies were storm troopers or beasts.

Well then don't call it a 9 hour game, you beat it in 9 hours. Just read it's a 6 hour game which actually is pretty bad but I've played worse when it comes to Star Wars. Good grief, you're gonna criticize me for calling it a 9 hour game because that's how long it took me? Dude, you take this stuff way too seriously. And are you really going to compare TFU to Lego Star Wars? I mean, I loved the Lego games, but their target audience is totally different. A five year could beat the Lego games. They're games for kids to play with their parents. Even then it had more puzzles than the TFU, at least if you were going for 100% completion. What you're doing is like trying to compare the original trilogy to the new clone wars series. Yeah, they are both Star Wars, but the comparison isn't even close to being valid.

Good grief, you're gonna criticize me for calling it a 9 hour game because that's how long it took me?

Because theres a difference between how long a game takes someone and it's intended length. Gears of War 2 could take someone 20 hours to play but it's length on Insane is 12-15 hours. The latter is what takes priority. I beat Twilight in 48 hour but it was meant to be a 40 hour game, thus thats what I call it. And I wasn't criticizing you, just pointing something out.

And are you really going to compare TFU to Lego Star Wars?

You did before I did.

Last time I checked, Lego Star Wars was a Star Wars game. Didn't know you were gonna be that specific.

Dude, you take this stuff way too seriously.

What the f*ck does "gaming is my livelihood" mean to you? Piss off, I'm just giving my thoughts. I wasn't personally trying to offend you, just making an obvious correction about something you didn't know. To you it may just be a casual hobby but to me, it's much much more then that. Something I'm going to school for and then will be my career.

Yeah, that offended me. None of anything I said was ever personal up until I read that comment. And I'm sure you're just rolling your eyes at me or don't think it was a big deal but guess what? It is to me. Don't demean my #1 passion (yes, gaming comes before hockey to me). I'm seriously laid back and only have a couple hot button issues. You rammed right into with a semi truck.

:o

I OWN THAT ON VHS! I went to HMV one day and it was a dollar. I don't care what it is, when theres a movie for a dollar, you buy it. Unless it's gay porn. The male kind.

Just covering any potential comeback there although I know someone will find one anyway.

In addition to the aforementioned shield bullsh*t, I was irked that the the lightsabers were essentially glowing billyclubs and there were a few glitches that made a seemingly easy process take almost an hour. The Star Destroyer should have only taken about 5 minutes max to bring down, but the screen directions were inaccurate and made things frustrating as hell. But even with those issues and the few crashes, I still love this game. But like I said, I'm a huge Star Wars fan, and it's hard to put me off something that features lightsabers and force chokes.

I wasn't commenting that you take video gamers too seriously. What I meant was that you take talking about games with regular joes too seriously. You gotta remember that aside from Maca, the rest of us a just regular gamers. You don't need to get frustrated at us for not knowing everything about gaming.

Maybe I'm crazy, but to me the phrase, "Why on earth..." indicates to me that someone is responding to something completely ridiculous or is very frustrated. At least that's how I use it. Thus, when that's how you responded, I took it to mean that you were frustrated with something stupid I said. I fully realize that ported games are just about the same on each of the systems they are ported to. However, especially since a different studio worked on it, there were sure to be some differences. I was just pointing out that I had only played the Wii version, so my experiences were slightly different. Now tell me, is that not a true statement? Another difference was opponents with shields. I found very few of them on the Wii version, but there were apparently a lot in the 360 version. Also, I can't remember for sure, but I don't think on the Wii version you even controlled the crashing of the Star Destroyer.

And then there was the length of the game comment. "Well then don't call it a 9 hour game." The average person isn't going to go look up how long it took game reviewers to beat a game. They'll talk about how long it took them to beat the game. I mean, I never even called it a 9 hour game. I called it incredibly short and then listed how long it took me to beat. There was no reason to point out a mistake that wasn't there nor to chide me about it.

Looking back at my comment, I can definitely see why it offended you, and I apologize for that. Like I said, I wasn't saying that you take gaming way too seriously. Heck, one of my best friends quite college for a few years to play a game professionally. I just meant there are ways to point out mistakes that come without making the other person feel stupid for saying something.

With...ah, no, that doesn't work.

I was gonna make a mom joke but she'd have to be a tranny and I'd have to be gay for it work. Then it wouldn't be funny at all. :(

Sounds like a great plot for a new 360 game!

A GTA game just where you play as an angry gay person?

That, sir, would rule. I'm surprised you're not using your PS3 thread.

Angry lisping gay person with a tranny mother.*

* The author has nothing against angry people. Nor does he have anything against lisping people. Nor does he have anything against gay people. Nor does he have anything against tranny mothers. In fact, the author has friends who are angry. Friends who are lispers. Friends who are gay. He does not, however, have a friend, or indeed know of any tranny mothers. That, however, does not preclude him becoming friends of a tranny mother if he should chance to meet one whose interests would present such as they could be friends.**
