D'oh. I'm not impressed by this games results. Its the 1st game of the season and the Habs are already giving away points.

Huet looked pretty good, his goal stealing stick save was mint. However I hope that he works on his puck handling decisions. Huet cleared loose pucks away several times from in front of the net to the corner area almost handing it to a Carolina player at least twice. Clearing the puck to the corner is only a good decision when a habs player becomes closest to the puck. Otherwise its no different than a turnover. Hopefully its not a bad habit he picked up in the off season.

If Kovalev plays every game the way he did last night he will be a point a game player - and that was only a shadow of his full potential. Great stuff from him, I've always liked the guy, he gets a bad knock from way too many. Yes, he has his faults but the bottom line is that he increases this team's chances of winning as much as anyone else on the lineup does.

I've always liked Kovalev too. I know his stats dont show it, but I strongly believe he is in the top 20 in regards to skill level in the NHL. Kovalevs stick handling ability is definitely in the top 10 and the accuracy of his shot is too. Kovalev truly is a special player. Watching him this year he looks to be back on his game, big time. Another reason for this other than him signing another big contract after this 1 is his health. The last few years he has had several injuries which werent exactly major so he was able to keep playing, just he couldnt give 100%. It doesnt look like his health is an issue so far.

I think Carbo is going with this:

Home:

"C" Koivu

"A" Higgins

"A" Markov

Road:

"C" Koivu

"A" Kovalev

"A" Markov or Komisarek

I think that was just someone's idea here, but I don't think anyone's actually seen Carbo say he was gonna give Komi an A.

Besides, that WAS a road game, and as JMMR says, it was Kovy and Higgins with the A's.

Thanks JMMR!

After watching the Habs on Wed and the Leafs on Thursday, we could get beating up bad.

The Habs have no flow. They didn't deserve to beat a bad playing 'Canes.

I just hope the Leafs are tired from their busy sched.

We are going to need more games before there is flow to the offense. Too many new faces and people learning each other's game.

I do not think the defense is good enough to bail them out of every game.

Looking good in a loss means absolutely nothing. They lost. They are winless

and they are the Maple Leafs. Montreal outplayed Ottawa badly in a loss a week ago as well.

The Habs have proven that if they bring their A game they can compete with anybody.

So I am not exactly worried about being beat up bad by a 1 line team.

I think Kovalev is top 3 or 4 in talent level in the league and I don't think there is a better player one on one in the league. But he is inconsistent, he lacks fire in his belly. Unfortunately, that will never change.

Although it would be naive to expect such a change, it would be equally foolish to say "never".

Stranger things have happened.. if the Americans could reelect Chimpy, i have faith in the universe that maybe Kovalev's fire will rekindle.

All I meant was that he may go off for a season, maybe a season and a half. But if the nearest corner store runs out of his favourite Vodka he will most likely sulk for 2 months. People don't change, motivations may change their behaviour, but Kovy has shown a pattern throughout his career that has hindered him from reaching his utmost potential.

Have you ever looked at guys like Crosby, Ovechkin, St. Louis and wondered if they gave their all?

It is what seperates Kovalev and his all world talent from being remembered as a good player not a great player.

The reason the Americans or I voted in "Chimpy" as you call him is we don't beleive in socialism or political correctness. He did win by the largest margain in history. Stop reading your left wing rag articles. Didn't Canada elect a conservative? So lay off the political BS. this is a hockey board.

Kovalev won't change, as i said on another post, a leapard can't change his spots.

Wamsley01: Yeah, i know perfectly what you mean, and i agree; but there's still a chance he will find something that will motivate him in a similar fashion to what motivates Crosby and co. It's unlikely, but never say never! Dreams may be irrational, but they're part of what keeps us glued to the screen, no? :)

Chris: Someone's cranky  Did FOX news go off air or what? Hey i just said the word "Chimpy", you're the one going Dick Cheney on me here. Put the hunting rifle down!

Put the rifle down...lol...awesome.

While I agree that politics and hockey should be saved for different forums Chimpy is an easy target.

Australia...Austria...“The illiteracy level of our children are appalling.” Who cares if he is a republican or democrat...the guy would lose an IQ test to Steve Downie.

The game had no flow too many penalty's, not the Habs. I thought they played an excellent road game.

I'm not cranky, lol i just don't like people taking cheap shots at my country.

Don't you cringe when he says shit like

"You know, one of the hardest parts of my job is to connect Iraq to the war on terror."

Bush is an easy target. I don't think I would take it personal if you were cutting up Stephen Harper.

If it was a good line, i would most likely laugh

Chris: For the record, i love America, and i wasn't taking a cheap shot at your country, just your president, who is more or less an idiot. I've visited almost every state east of the Mississippi, and some other states like Texas (which is my favorite American state) and i have tremendous respect for my brothers to the south.
