Stanley Cup Finals Thread | #1 (East) Tampa Bay vs. #6 (West) Calgary

Shaky start by both teams here in Game 7. Tampa picked it up, Calgary only had one good chance all period. Iginla was invisible. I think Lecavalier is playing with a concussion. He just doesn't seem to be himself out there.

Fedetenko has the only goal after 1.

Go Lightning.

Both Iginla & Calgary'll pick it up.

Go Flames - don't let some shoddy US team whose home rink can't even produce a half-decent ice surface win our sacred Cup!

:can:

2-0 Tampa, Fedotenko with his second of the game, but Lecavalier has to get all the credit for that goal, if you didnt see it, then you HAVE TO SEE IT. Unbeleiable stickhandling through a load of players, then a kick to his stick, and a pass to Fedotenko who scores...

Wow, just wow.

Not looking good for Flames.

A shoddy team with consecutive 90+ point seasons that is one period away from winning Lord Stanley's Cup. Tampa is doing a GREAT job of shutting Iginla down. No shots since the 2nd period of game 6.

I don't know if they showed it on the Canadian network, but here on ABC they showed an interesting computer graphic. They took the video from the Gelinas no-goal in game 6 and used a computer to allow them to rotate around and up over the goal line to see if it really crossed the line. Not even half the puck had crossed the line.

You got that right, wow.

Now that's the kind of goal I want to see decide the Stanley Cup... not some cheap kicked in goal.

I can't see the Flames coming back in this one, they just seem spent... not looking good.

Conroy finally breaks out of his slump (Picked a good time to do it) and scores on the PP for the Flames, he let a slapshot go from the point and he beat a screened Khabby high glove side.

2-1 Tampa... about 10 minutes left in the game... Should be an exciting finish.

Go Flames!

That Calgary PP goal was on an absolute phantom call if I ever saw one... Pratt gets leveled and he's the one who gets the penalty.

Amazing.

Tampa deserved it, and the game winning goal was a beauty... that's how it should be.

Very happy for Andreychuk, and for a castoff like St-Louis to get his revenge on the team that didn't believe in him.

And both Lecavalier & Richards really came into their own in these playoffs.

Congrats to Calgary for a great run... but I have to say I prefer seeing the talented and offensive team win, hopefully more teams copy their mold.

P.S. The owner of the Lightning is also the owner of the Detroit Pistons who won Game 1 in the NBA Finals.

Pretty successful guy at the moment.

:clap:Congrats to both the Bolts and the Flames. They showed a lot of people that they are winners. Few people expected the Lightning to make it this far, even fewer thought the Flames would get here. Both teams deserve a lot of credit.

I am glad the officiating didn't determine this game. The Pratt call was awful, and Calgary got away with more penalties than Tampa did. I once even saw Fraser start to raise his hand to call a penalty on Calgary, then put it back down.

Tampa is not fluke. Flukes do not win Cups. Florida made a run in 1996, but now hockey has officially arrived in the state of Florida.

Wow... 90+ point season the weakest division in the NHL - only one +500 team.

TB did a great clutch & grab job on Iginla.

I saw the replay repeatedly - it was a goal, IMO. Calgary was robbed. ###### TB and its sycophants.

That's a joke. The penalty at 18:59 of the third on Ference was a major joke - I'm starting to think that Sutter was right about the NHL. Face it, TB needed the NHL to wave off a Cup winning goal & put Fraser onto the Flames to win therefor they suck.

That was a penalty on Ference but some of those other cheap calls early in the game weren't. IMO, game 7 should be called like overtime. Only plays that should be called are vicious hits/slashes or plays that deprive others of a great scoring opportunity.

I agree. Anyone who knows and cares about the game will realize this isn't good for the NHL.

Penalty within the last 2 minutes?

Plenty of fluke have won Championships.

The first name that comes to mind, aside from Tampa are the Green Bay Packers in football.

I'm sure I can give more examples.

Oh boohoo... it's the refs fault.

Are you a closet Leafs fan?.. sure whine like one.

Complaining a goal that would have been scored with a skate should have decided the Cup is as much of a losers argument as it gets.

Apparently ABC found a new angle that showed the puck didn't even cross the line, that the optical illusion was due to the fact the puck was in the air.... or something like that.

Like I said, non-issue since it was scored with a skate... on purpose.

Best team won, the offensive team won... a victory for NHL fans everywhere, except Calgary of course.

As for the penalties... the call on Pratt was an absolute joke, a gift to Calgary that gave them a shot to get back in it when they didn't deserve it.

But the whiners don't mention that one, prefer to cry about that penalty at the end... which was a penalty.

What ever happened to tipping your cap to the other team?

Ah well.

Actually, whether it was on purpose or not is irrelevant. NHL now allow players to direct the puck with the skate, as long as it is not a kicking motion. And it was clearly not a kicking motion. Nonetheless, Calgary had two games to win it, and they didn't. I think Flame fans simply wanted a review and the league should have given it, just to save face...perhaps they'll adopt an-NFL style video review.

The "no goal" in game 6 was just that, not a goal. ABC used all available angles to create a computer generated replay which they were able to rotate around to above the goal line. This showed that not even half the puck was over the line. The angle of the main replay was an illusion. And how was the Ferrence penalty a joke? He hit St. Louis in the face with his stick and drew blood. It doesn't matter if it was an accident, you have to be in control of your stick at all times. And what about the Pratt penalty? That was one of the worst calls ever. He gets hammered and takes a penalty for it. It would have been sad had Calgary come back after scoring on that illegitimate PP goal.

How is creating a truly solid fan base in Florida not good for the NHL?

IMO, game 7 should be called like overtime.

OT is horribly officiated. Guys get away with all kinds of penalies. If the refs would start calling the penalties as they see them, players would stop doing those things. This benefits everyone, except maybe goalies. Calling penalties as they are written will open up the game, and stop guys from clouching and grabbing guys like Iginla and St. Louis entire games. And to be honest, I think Calgary got away with a lot more than Tampa did. I know I was rooting for the Bolts, but I am objective about officiating, because normally it is so bad both ways.

Tampa still had $8 tickets because they couldn't sell out the stadium.

Developing a solid fan base in Florida - exaggeration of the century.

High School Highlight reels have been reported to get higher TV ratings than the Stanley Cup game in Florida.

Habs77 sees it that way it must be so? Habs77 says a TB victory is a victory for NHL fans everywhere and being omnipotent it must be so? You have the megalomaniacal audacity to believe that your opinion is supreme? You think the better team won? Good for you but it doesn't make your opiinion right. TB Sycophants want to believe the puck wasn't across the line then they can delude themselves into believing so but it doesn't change reality.

And read the rule book. Directing a puck into the net is not a goal but having it careem off one's skate is.

Rule 57 Goals and Assists

(d) If an attacking player has the puck deflect into the net, off his skate or body, in any manner, the goal shall be allowed. The player who deflected the puck shall be credited with the goal.

The goal shall not be allowed if the puck has been intentionally kicked with his skate or foot, using a distinct kicking motion, and subsequently enters the net.

A goal shall be allowed unless a distinct kicking motion is evident.

What ever happened to tipping your cap to the other team?

If the Flames had benn blown out like the Habs were against Carolina then I'd tip my hat - but they didn't and I won't.

Are you a closet Leafs fan?.. sure whine like one

Are you now an anal rententive regurgitator of banal Tampa Bay pieties? Sure sound like one.
